Devon dinner and a week of exciting news for me!

3

Had a fab long weekend down in Devon this week, including meeting the crazy gang at the Belstone Supper night!

Also some exciting news for me – my publisher will definitely be releasing my paperback steamy novel ‘Take a Chance on Me’ into some bookshops in December! Whoop! AND…

Stop Press! I am moving house! Out of the blue, but that’s ok. And it got me thinking. It’s funny how life sends us a curve ball sometimes, when we’re least expecting it, right? Well, I live on a lovely Surrey estate where the private landlord owns lots of tied housing. I had a call last week saying that they’ve got a new gamekeeper called Ross who needs a house big enough for his six dogs and two kids and could they have mine back please? Two months to find a new home! Eeeek! Then along comes an idyllic picture postcard cottage round the corner – much smaller floor space but lots of outbuildings – so I’m moving home!

More news soon! Have you ever had to up sticks suddenly? Any tips for decluttering whilst packing up your old kit bag and following the van? And not dilly dallying on the way…??!

So off I went with my mind all a tizz thinking about all the massive sorting out I have to do, to Devon once again to see pal Alix and had a lovely mini holiday. Niece Steph house/dogsat for me leaving me free to enjoy it! And enjoy it I did. A tiny caterer called @Pickle_shack cooked up a storm for 60 at @BelstoneVillage hall on Friday night – delicious locally sourced food – served on slates with unusual dressings – like red pepper on the pud! But truly wonderful. They do others in the Devon area – look out for them, they’re highly recommended.

And I had lots of lovely lunches and walks on the Dartmoor wilds – including seeing some Baa Baa Black Lambs! Plus did some writing and also managed to buy a piece of software called Scrivener, which is apparently a brilliant organiser for novelists. Well the current WIP (work in progress) is going to be a long historical saga (kind of) and will have many parts and sub plots, so I thought it a good move. (more here.) Then we also indulged ourselves and binge-watched some House of Cards on Netflix! Nothing like a good couch viewing extravaganza for feeling deliciously lazy on a holiday is there! If you could binge-watch one series from scratch, what would your recommendation be? I’ll be back seeing Alix again soon…

RNA Summer Party and Big News for Debbie Flint the Author!

rna pic

Once again I had tons of fun attending a writing industry evening event – the Romantic Novelists’ Association Summer Party in London on Thursday night. I met tons of other fellow Choc Lit authors. It was really nice now that I know so many people in that world. It’s a good time for a catch up and also to see the awards take place for best new novel to come through their new writers’ scheme. (see book of the week below.)

How exciting! It’s the one moment every writer dreams of – and you can be sure I’ll be putting my first selfie on here as soon as I see it! Just in time for Xmas too! And to celebrate, in two weeks’ time, the prequel, Hawaiian Escape, will be going on a special discounted deal on Amazon ebook just in time for the Summer hols. Try reading Sacred Space by Denise Linn (available on Amazon) You’ll be inspired to sling pretty much everything bar the dogs and feel positively enlightened! Read it years ago and think it will help x

Debbie I sold my small house in London, 20 years ago this on 7 June on the
condition by the purchaser that I complete the sale in 8 weeks max. I have
never viewed so many places in such short notice – it was exciting. Found my
present home at end of 6th day (3 weekends) .Bought from someone not
buying another place so smallest chain ever! I had lived my London Terrace
house for 20 years it was full of stuff in loft too. I moved to a smaller place
    with a larger garden so….
Best advice I was given was have 3 or 4 boxes: 1 keep,
1 charity shops, 1 to give to family and friends 1 sell. Maybe ask
your grown up children to help by selling items online . I used this
    system every night after work

I got quotes from removal firms to part pack eg kitchen stuff, glasses also Got a removal firm to transferred my clothes on hangers into temporary wardrobes (so less packing). Suggest if you are doing some of your own packing use old strong shallow banana boxes for paperback books and be sure to pack rest of books in small,
boxes so you don’t put your back out with heavy boxes.! .
Some charities will pick up unwanted furniture. British Heart Foundation
will be happy to take good quality electrical things too – they overall them
and put them out to sell.

Glad you found a cottage around the corner so you won’t miss people you know
locally- Summer months are great time to move – it will be exciting. Wish you
well with this positive change Fay

Hi Debbie…Big Congrats on your book hitting the shops soon – you must be soo PROUD!!

My top tips for moving, would be to start now (am sure you have) and be ruthless!!
I did a major house move to a new town and couldn’t believe the amount of stuff, especially clothes that we collect, shocking really, LOL!!?
Very excited about the Judith Williams new range – absolutely love her products!!
    Warm wishes…K xx
