Denim Style List

Denim: an evolution of style

0

What springs to mind when you think of denim? For us here in the QVC fashion department, it’s versatility, trends, and endless re-invention. We love denim in all its forms, which made it an obvious choice to include in our Style List. We challenge you to find a wardrobe out there without at least a single piece of denim in it!

Looking back at denim through the decades, there have been some truly memorable looks. A few of our digital team have very kindly sifted through their family albums to find some of their favourites.

Here’s our fashion copywriter’s Mum looking seriously stylish (and windswept) on Dollymount beach, Dublin circa 1978.

Vintage denim

This look is all about those cuffed flares, artfully echoed by the rolled-up sleeves of the home-knit cardigan. Flares were the defining fashion item of the ’70s, but they certainly weren’t practical for a stroll on the wet sand.

Moving on to the early ’90s, here’s another of our copywriters along with her big sister in a co-ordinating look that they have yet to forgive their parents for. Side ponytails, white denim shorts, denim dungarees… it’s definite 1990s overload!

Vintage denim

While we’re all about the nostalgia, some looks are definitely best left in the past! Our current denim offering is all about a more timeless look, and includes well-cut pieces that aim to flatter all figures.

In order to help you find that perfect pair of jeans, we’ve split up our selection into four categories: skinny/slim, bootcut, straight, and trend, which includes cropped and flared styles. Here’s just a couple of our favourites from some of the categories:

Skinny/ slim fit

Skinny jeans

From weekend brunch to a night out for drinks, we can’t be parted from our skinny jeans. On the left we have a gorgeous dark wash pair – the Biba Stevie jeans. On the right are a wonderfully soft true blue style from Jeanne Beker.

Bootcut

Bootcut jeans

Bootcut jeans are arguably the most flattering for all shapes. Nick Verreos’s style on the left feature a mock fly and an elasticated waistband for ultimate comfort. Don’t be afraid to add a pop of colour with your denim, the Diane Gilman Superstretch jeans on the right are an eye-catching brilliant purple.

Straight leg

Straight leg jeans

These two pairs perfectly demonstrate how denim can take you through the week. Your casual weekend look from Label Lab is on the left, while the darker wash from Denim & Co on the right have a more formal cut, perfect for a day at work when paired with a collared shirt and blazer.

We bet you’ve all had some true of-the-time denim pieces in your fashion history!  Comment below to share your favourite memories with us.
