Writing from sunny LA, here's this week's update for you all!
- Santa Monica sightseeing
- Lunch with designer Antthony – and his new TSV on the 27th!
- Good grub – no-one does it like they do it in America!
- And 'Men In Black 3' – what did YOU think?
Santa Monica sights
The first thing to say about my holiday here in LA is that, staying in Santa Monica, you get the best of both worlds – seaside freshness in the air, but still great weather.
We're a stone's throw from 3rd Street, very famous for its street performers and restaurants, as well as some fab shopping. Have met up with lots of pals and I've had some amazing meals, and some wonderful entertaining experiences.
The hotel was an old fashioned 1930s 'suites' type of place – quite big, a kitchenette (perfect for preparing me miso soup each morning!) and a lovely little kidney shaped pool – soooo warm I can't tell you! Went for a swim most mornings! The weather wasn't too hot before midday, then the sun burned off the cloud and it got scorchio!
Loved going down to 3rd Street – one of the entertainers was a real star – such good banter with the crowd and a cool acrobat's six pack to keep us girlies amused too! He was one of many lining the street every twenty yards or so all the way down 3rd Street.
I loved visiting Universal City, and The Grove – where I had lunch with Rob Locke (more of that in next week's blog), including having a quick ride on a fab little trolley bus – proper old green open-topped tram number – and even tho' the ride was only about six mins long, I loved it! Felt all summery and happy in my white sun hat and Kim & Co flowery dress too!
But the highlight of my week has to be meeting up with Antthony – the wonderful designer and all round good guy who's based in LA. He's due back on QVC in the UK with a new Today's Special Value on 27th next week – don't miss it!
He and I had a fabulous (healthy!) lunch on the seafront in an old 1930s art deco hotel called The Georgian – it's turquoise, and near the pier – ever been there?
Well, not only did I manage to stick more or less to my macrobiotic principles, I also loved having a good old gossip and a catch up with him. He kindly did us a little video so you can see where we were! Apologies for putting my finger over the microphone at the end, but you'll get the gist! Lol.
He's back with a two piece floral cami and kaftan set! Here I am wearing it outside in one of my LA days – right by shopping Mecca, the Beverly Center! And no, before you ask, I didn't succumb… too much anyway! Ever been there?
Such a wonderful time. Next week, an update on when I met Rob Locke. Plus news of the Marlene's macrobiotic competition! Do come back for that!
Now of course it goes without saying that Hollywood would be filled with film talk. So, thought I'd include a little film review about 'Men in Black 3' – still doing the rounds out here. Now Mr Back-of-my-Tandem (a screenwriter) would say that it was Will Smith phoning it in, and the script had too many unlikely events. But if it stars Will Smith, it already has me right there. And if it includes a bit of a time travel storyline, then that also gets it marks without me having even seen it!
But basically, if you enjoyed the originals, you'll like this. I think they've done a good to considering it was a third outing for the suited ones, and Josh Brolin is amazing as a young 'K', Tommy Lee Jones. Loved Emma Thompson, specially her alien impression – elements of 'Mars Attacks'! Anyway it gets a good 8 out of ten from me. I'd say yes to the cinema, but also get it on DVD if you can't go. Well worth a watch.
Next week, am hoping to get to see 'Snow White and the Huntsman' – the gossip out here is that Charlize Theron makes the film and it's brilliant. Special thumbs up from Antthony too, about the costumes!
OK, that's it for now. Normal format next week, when I'm back on my own PC! Hope you like the pics! There would be a lot more, but as you'll recall, I'm being limited at the mo to help out the lovely web team as they've got a ton of work to do till August on the new web site development.
Next week – ex-QVC presenter Rob Locke in Hollywood – his secret to making a living as an actor out here! He's doing well and looks great, bless him!
Don't forget to tell me what you think of Antthony's fashions – do you love them or what? And don't miss the TSV with him on 27th – I'm on with him mid afternoon! Assuming it lasts till then – it's lovely!
