How lovely my son is! One of his thoughtful xmas gifts this year was two tickets for him and me to see the incredible Cirque du Soleil at the Royal Albert Hall. When I opened the tickets I gasped, then my face fell when I saw the date – the same day as I had arranged to treat my sis to a concert! Oh no!
Then suddenly all was well again as he’d only gone and booked the matinee! Thank goodness! So last Wednesday it made for a very hectic but thoroughly enjoyable day of shows.
Have you ever been? What did you think? It was the ‘Kooza’ show, which as usual features amazing feats of strength and balancing, with some utterly breathtaking high wire performances, and of course the usual clown antics.
One of my faves was the one pictured – with a double ended swing contraption which went round and round inside which two men turned, somersaulted and jumped – thrilling! Truly a circus for the 21st century. Search on youtube for more – there are loads of clips!
Oh how fun it was to then trundle quickly over to Hammersmith Apollo to meet up with my sister Linda Bignell ( the Red Carpet Manicure guest too!) to go see one of my favourite performers – Gary Barlow – he was fantastic I have to say.
The audience was – yes you can imagine – mostly thirties and upwards and mostly women, most of whom (including me!) knew most of the words to most of the songs! Even the earlier Take That ones! Lol!
One of the highlights was when James Corden surprised him and came on with Gary to sing the Comic Relief send-up version of Pray – where he’d played ‘fat Gary Barlow’! haha! I’m sure you can find a clip of THAT on youtube somewhere too – very funny!
I took many more pics of course! With my little Sony cybershot 10x zoom, my favourite camera of the moment, and it made our P row circle seats get a whole lot closer to the action.
I must say tho, I do like being nearer the front – are you the same? If I have to be at the back of a massive hall I’d rather not go – after all, big tellies and HD are so good nowadays! Haha! Just call me Grandma! Lol.
Especially when several people in front of us stood up and blocked out view – it meant everyone immediately behind them had to stand too, and my sis is only 5 foot tall! I said, next time, we bring our biggest platforms! Happily being an older audience they all sat down again most of the time.
I’d say ‘you know you’re getting old when’ – but to be honest, I’ve always been the same! I was the one who used to ask the music to be turned down, even when I was 18! I do hope there are some of you reading this who were the same – make me feel better and leave a comment below as I’m curious! Orwere you the life and soul? Loved loud music, banging concerts and dancing till dawn!?
Anyway a good time was had by all – including me – especially when Gary did his medley of slower songs. That and the swing section, and Forever Autumn, were my favourites.
What’s been your favourite concert ever? And why?
I was asked last week what my favourite blooper was of last year, and I have to say it is probably Glenn Campbell’s weather report finger Fail just before xmas.
But during a Michele Hope Outlet show, Tiffany our lovely model provided me with the first one of 2013 – well I did ask! Lol!
Here he is with big brother Freddie! He weighed six pounds. Bless!
Do tweet her and Justin best wishes via @lolaroseuk, where they will announce his name soon as they’ve decided it!
This first one is very pretty – a nearby hill in the sunset. How pretty! Or as I said on facebook when I posted it – pwiddeeeee!
But then the snow came and before it got too heavy – my two choccie Labradors found it quite amusing to go frolic! Lol
Mind you, Chiswick Park, where QVC is based, wasn’t spared the snow and frost!
This lovely pic was taken by Chas one of our sound guys and posted on facebook.
Am sure there are tons doing the rounds now it’s so heavy!
- and finally in snippets this week, rather than have a facebook funny, I thought I’d have a facebook Scary for a change!
Made my hair stand on end when I read this!
Enlarge it and see if you can spot it!

WATCH– It’s rare that I’ll repeat one, but since I didn’t get to see Quartet I just posted the trailer, I had to tell you that I’ve now seen it and it’s excellent! Maggie Smith, Pauline Collins et al are all superb, tug at the heart strings and are well deserved of their 8.75 out of ten that I’m giving this charming British film about the home for retired musicians and the shenanigans these oldsters still get up to. Poignant and warm, funny and clever, I loved it. Do go see!
Sneaky peeks aside (see above) there are lots of days to look forward to coming up soon!
The Revitalash Todays Special Value bargain being one of them! Don’t miss this Saturday (19th) since it’s a three piece set – lash, brow and primer!
