Deb ‘n’ Daisy do Devon, what a washout! And end of an era at QVC!

19

Daisy in DevonThis is the first of nine weeks of shorter blogs 'cos of the web team moving to Chiswick and new website work to be done – don't worry – normal service resumed in August!

This week – Devon trip for Jubilee weekend; it must be 'fete' – washout for the bank hol bbq's; and end of an era at QVC as I move out of our old home! Plus – a French & Saunders QVC clip for you to enjoy!

Well the Jubilee weekend was a washout mostly, wasn't it? Did you manage to have your celebrations without any rain? Let me know by leaving a comment below if you did! (and go to the P.S. section here if you're new and you would like to find out more about how to leave a comment).

I trekked off to Devon with Daisy Dog (couldn't trust her on her own in the garden with the others for too long and thought I'd try it to see if I liked it! Answer was – I liked having Daisy there and she was good as gold! But I got less writing done!).

It was to see my friend Alix and write my novel – lovely it was – for the first day and half! Then the heavens opened and it was like February over again! Oh well – got lots done, lovely to see my mate, and fab to watch the Jubilee programming – including one of the most emotional shows ever – the Jubilee concert – what was your favourite bit?

I have to admit to shedding a tear at the finale with all the amazing fireworks! And most memorable moment? Those poor singers on top of that RPO barge singing to the Queen in the pouring rain! Who forgot to provide them with a canopy??!!! Send those poor girls some Ojon at once!

Snippets
Washout at the Jubille feteIt also meant of course that my Wotton estate barbie was a washout! Shame! I popped down to Wotton House fete on Tuesday to see what was going on – and basically it was a lot of wet tables and chairs, wet tents and wet people!

Never mind – am sure everyone had as good a time as possible. Makes me look forward to my trip to LA to see Mr Back-of-My-Tandem on 14th though!…

Super-cute puppy lampsWhilst I was away with my little Daisy dog for company, my daughter Lauren and her guy Nick bought a new addition to the puppy parade – little Baloo the spaniel puppy. Now isn't this the cutest pic you've ever seen? At one end the Tiffany lamp – at the other – well, spot the real puppy! Bless her! Can't wait to meet her!

French & Saunders 'do' Diamonique!
Well of course it's the end of an era, and all the programming you watch after this blog will be in the new studios! Do take a look and tell me below what are your first thoughts on the new sets!? All your old favourites will be there, guests and products and of course us!

But just to mark the occasion of the end of nineteen years in our Battersea studios, I thought I'd give you a 'blooper' which takes us back to the earlier golden age when QVC was so new it was the target of some of the funniest sketches by celebrities on TV – including this one! Soooo funny! Who do you think they were imitating at the time, everyone? If you have a long memory and are able to recall who was on QVC back then! Hehe! And thanks to Ceri Periam for Facebooking me the link!

Footnotes

Debbie's coconut and three-nut macrobiotic nibblesEAT - my latest macrobiotic nibbles – coconut and three-nut bites! Thought it'd be nice to take some of my own homemade treats along to the cinema this week – watch out next week for a couple of big screen reviews if I make it there! The treats might not make it that far tho' – they're delicious!

Pack of toasted nuts, brown rice syrup, bit of nori seaweed and dessicated coconut! And I promise next week, some meal recipes! Have lost ten pounds now, since the macrobiotic hol end of April – yes even eating treats like this (only occasionally tho'!) – so all going well!

WATCH - 'Avengers Assemble' – highly recommended! Finally got to the cinema this week, and what a goodie it was! Definitely one of the best of all the superhero movies of the last few years – a good eight and half, if not eight and three quarters, out of ten! LOVED the funnies in it – including hilarious Hulk and super-sexy Iron Man. Worth going for the one-liners alone, but a pretty good plot too. Tell me what you think if you've seen it! And also ' is it worth seeing 'Men In Black 3' at cinema next?

QVC - I'm back on air for my first shows in the new studios over the weekend – including Bose and Laura Geller make-up on Saturday 9th (at 4pm and 6pm), plus the premiere of Aurora Jewellery at 11pm on Sunday 10th – but there's a full programme of launch celebrations and special deals on as well, so don't miss out!

Debbie leaving the Battersea studios with all her stuffYes my last moments leaving the old building were a little bit fraught, but thank goodness I had a good pal there (Jonny P who used to work there) to give a helping hand! Packed all the crates but STILL had some stuff I had to take myself! Lol! All done now tho', and I won't be there any more – onwards and upwards as they say!

And as a final goodbye to the Battersea studios – here's a pic Julia showed on air on the final show with Ralph on Wednesday night till 2am. Remember our first lounge set? And the desk we presented the jewellery from?

My first moments on air, a lead crystal Irish coffee glass (!) was at that very desk. What are your early memories of our old sets, or what was your first purchase? Maybe make your first comment below, on this special occasion! Goodbye Battersea, hello Chiswick! Yes, end of an era indeed!

Next week will be all about what's happened in the first few days on air! Make sure you leave me your thoughts below on our new studios!

Anyway, best wishes till next week!

Luv
Debs

    Hi Debs
Well that last clip of Julia closing down the Battersea studios was emotional and yes i’ve teared up!! It truly is the end of an era in distance home shopping – so many funny, sad and every emotion possible memoriesxx Makes me think of the late great Whatters,Lavers,Bradford and the lovely Kara Tritton along with you,Julia,Jules B and Jilly and i’m sure others along the wayxx The new sets remind me of QVCUSA sets – all very spacious with loads of dark wood and glass – very different to Marco Polo House but i like it. I watched Kathy T and Miceal M presenting the first hour – isnt Kathy looking well,so trim and very glamorous – she is a very natural beauty and her hair and nails are looking good tooxx I’m looking forward to your weekend shows especially the Laura Geller ones – i love her makeup. I also loved the lovely Stacey Schefflin from YBF(your best friend) cosmetics and i beleive shes back at QVC very soon – she is so much fun,i cant wait to watch a show with you presenting and Stacey, funs not the word for it – maybe orgainsed craziness! Great fun anywayxx Hows your novel coming along and whats this about a trip to the States to see Mr Tandem man? I dont expect you to answer but just know we are all wishing you well – Health and Happinessx Debsx Look after yourselfxx Love Linda,Glasgowxx

    Hi Debs,
I totally agree with Linda, very US set! Like anything it’ll take a bit of getting used to but sure we will. I also completely agree isn’t Kathy T looking amazing!! She’s such a natural beauty yes. And you’re looking very well yourself Debs. I think the new pup of Lauren and Nick’s is gorgeous!! Cannot wait to hear about her. And yes I have also clearly missed hearing about you going to LA! And meeting a man!?
    Enjoy your new set,
    Susan x

    Hi Debs,
What have you done to me!, just had scrambled tofu for breakfast! and it was lovely.
You are looking really amazing and having read your blog about the macrobiotic course you went on I bought Marlene Watson-Tara’s book and started to get interested as I’m 50 next year (still can’t get my head around that! as in my head I’m 19) and i want to feel considerably healthier than I do now.
So I bought a block of tofu and having ignored it for a bit (am not very good with change, it’s scary) I finally gave in this morning to it’s leaping up and down at me every time I opened the fridge door shouting eat me eat me and ate it.
It wasn’t scary after all and it just goes to show how set in my ways I am.
Please keep writing about it on your blog as you are a great inspiration in trying new things and stepping out of your comfort zone and I applaud you for that.
I’ve also just started excercising again (have dusted off my pilates machine) but I have also started doing the fitness dvd’s that were on Qvc a while back, Leslie Sansone walk at home. I can now do the four mile walk (mild aerobics actually but she’s really motivating and I now enjoy it)which is a miracle as I hated exersise growing up because I had bronchitis for years and although I don’t have it now I think the memory of being uncomfortably out of breath has somehow stayed with me and has coloured the way I viewed excercise.
So thank you again for being a good influence on me and I hope you have a fab time in the states.
    Regards
    Jacqueline

Yes, Kathy looks great and she’s a beautiful person too!
Ybf – will be fun! Will be great to see her again – if she does the whole ‘no makeup/curlers thing’ I may join her!

Susan – yes very US style – very swish and stylish. Am in tomorrow – first time – so should be fun! Yes, the new puppy Baloo seems a real sweetie. Lovely pic of Lauren and her on facebook wall – are you one of my facebook friends too? Can you see it?
May post it next week – when I’m about to leave for LA! hah!
No, I didn’t really tell anyone, so you haven’t missed much! Mr back of My Tandem is quite private, so it’s not likely there’ll be updates on here about stuff! If I split up with him, then I’ll reveal all! haha! not really. Anyway all good for now, and am very excited about the trip! He’s out there for a couple of months so will be nice to catch up and be tourists! I love LA and San Diego!
    best wishes

Jacqueline! Well Hark at you, you go girl! You’re the inspiration! I should get my back room tidied up for sure – then I can put my pilates machine out properly! Nothing like the feeling you get when you’ve exercised, so hope you carry on! And soooo glad you got Marlene’s book – she’s on Twitter now if you’d like to talk to her directly – I’ll mention it next week – but she’s @marlenewt I think! Yes I’m still having the greens etc too – and miso – don’t forget the miso! Have just started a little bit of the ‘weight loss’ program now too – daikon (mooli) and carrot and seaweed broth – really clears out your system! Lost another pound overnight! haaha! And well done you for the whole ‘life begins at 50′ philosophy – that was my whole raison d’etre too for sure! Keep up the good work – and keep me informed! hugs d x

    Good Morning Jacqueline,
Delighted to hear about your virgin voygage with tofu, fantastic. I hope you enjoy my book and as a 55 year old, I can promise you that you will feel like younger as you age if you adopt the principles of what I teach. Food as you know creates who we are so a big thank you to the lovely Debbie for inspiring you, I did tell her in her blog that she did of me on my course in Scotland that she would now be the teacher in the South….there is a very good 10 minute exercise programme you can do with me on my you tube channel, wonderful for stimulating all the digestive organs as well as cleansing the lungs. Enjoy.

Oh Debbie, so sorry for you all down south and in the rain. Our Jubilee Party was held on Beadnell Beach in Northumberland and it was LOVELY!!!. Sixty four of us – young and old had a super day starting at 12.00pm and finishing at 12.00am. The bbq and the beer and wine tent never ran out of fuel or food. We thought we had it organised but unfortunately!!! there was so much stuff we could have fed and watered the whole of Northumberland. The best part for me was when we all sang “God Save The Queen” and then cut the 3 tiered cake I had made. Lovely time had by all so thanks ER and sorry Philip was poorly.

    Hi Debbie,
Sorry you had such a soggy Jubilee. My daughter & I headed to
Belfast that week-end to take in a Westlife concert & the weather was very pleasant,we were so lucky.
The new studios-Well I find them a bit dark all round with church
like windows.Hope none of the models take a tumble down those
stairs! I will get used to it no doubt.
Lovely pic of Daisy, she looks quite a handful. I sent Pipa (my bichon]to board in the country when I was in Belfast she loved it & came back flattened!
    Best Wishes

Guess what Debs , its raining again !
Agree the Palace fireworks were good but was even more impressed by that light show when Madness took to the roof – so clever.
If you run out of things to do this summer (as if !!) how about trying this
    http://www.surrey-hills-llamas.co.uk/
and the pogs could go too! – hope they are all OK btw.
I know you’ve been a tad busy recently ( understatement or what !) but did you like any of those CW ‘foodscapes’ ?
BTW Debs could you do us a favour when your in Tuscany next month and straighten that tower – it looks a bit wonky to me !!
Have a safe trip, Nige :))

Debs – Please pass on my regards to Rob x I really enjoyed his “heart on his sleeve” stories and he was a good presenter too – i remember on one presentation(jewellery i think?) he had stayed at your house(old house now) and he said that your house reminded him of the Liverpool warehouse!! because you had bought so much from QVC!! – he was a really cheery guy who,at the time, was not having any luck re his love life, but i believe now he has a wife and child(ren?) and is very happy,i’m so happy for himxx Does he remember the QVC late night(2am – 7am) shows? this is were we QVC viewers first met Rob – and George(lovely lady who loved Elvis) and another guy who unfortunately i cant rememberxx. Anyway Debs as i said please pass on my best to Rob and tell him “may the force be with him”(Star Wars – he was a great fan x) Love Linda,Glasgowxx

Nige – yes, ‘busy’ is a bit of an understatement for sure! Lol. July will be even more packed too – but will do my best to sort the tower when I go near Pisa
    , lol.
Yes I LOVED the Madness bit with the powerful projections onto Buckingham Palace of a street, a bus etc, when they did ‘Our House’. . And it must be love. Very cool.
Hope the weather’s perked up a bit in the UK for you for your outdoor job. I won’t rub it in, but it’s been about 80 degrees here in Santa Monica! Lol.
