A new addition to the family

Toby the puppy It was my twins’ 12th birthday last Friday and as I mentioned in my last blog they were in for a special surprise…

On Thursday my wife and I collected a beautiful Bearded Collie puppy from a breeder named Elaine (who incidentally is a QVC viewer).

We shocked the kids having said for the last couple of years we wouldn’t replace our beloved Emma who was with us for over 16 years. They had given up all hope of owning a dog again!

So, they were ecstatic with joy when they saw the new puppy and all the other presents we had bought them were instantly forgotten.

We couldn’t decide on a name – Elaine had called him Oz after his registered name of SeacharmzedToby the puppy Wizard of Oz. We liked Oz but Alex and Jack wanted to name him themselves.

Charlie Brook rang me and suggested ‘Carpenter’ as he would be doing little jobs around the house!! Sorry Charlie, we’ve bought a perfect puppy and – I kid you not – he hasn’t left any unwanted gifts in the house at all. Hope I’m not tempting fate.

In the end Alex suggested that we write a shortlist of three names on bits of paper and then put them in a bowl and ask ‘puppy’ to choose!

Yes we laughed as well … but would you believe it, he picked out a piece of paper with the name Toby on it and thus named himself.

He’s settled in so quickly and has already grown so much in a week.

Until next week, take care.

    Hi Dale
Just to say that I had a beloved Beardie, Meg, until recently when she left for doggie heaven at the great age of almost 17. She was a joy and such fun to live with, bringing a smile to everyone who saw her. Toby looks gorgeous and a great little character, typical of Beardies!
Lots of fun with him and best wishes – am a great QVC fan,
    Janine

Oh Dale, he looks lovely – Toby that is….. what a delightful little chap. I had an Old English Sheepdog, Wellie, for 17 years and he gave me such joy. Your little boy look a little like Wellie did when he was younger. Take care.
