How to create the perfect autumn evening in

It’s time to pack away the summer dresses, ditch the sandals and get ready for the dark nights and blustery weather coming our way. Are you heaving a sigh of sadness or relief? While the end of summer might be an unhappy time for some, here at QVC we embrace every season and simply can’t wait to welcome in autumn!

From decorating the house in rich shades of terracotta, burgundy and gold, to rustling up tasty and comforting goodies in the kitchen, there’s so much to get excited about. That’s why we thought we’d put together a little guide for you to show you just how easy it is to create a cosy evening in when the wind is howling and the rain is lashing.

Read on for our top tips that can be enjoyed solo or with family and friends; the choice is yours…

Set the Mood

decorSprucing up your home decor for autumn is often overlooked by many; what exactly do we change? Rest assured that with a few little tweaks, you can transform any room into a welcoming, seasonal space.

Adding copper and gold accents into the mix is a subtle yet effective way to do this. Try a lantern like this Home Reflections number; it comes complete with an LED light string that shines beautifully and creates a warming glow.

On the subject of mood lighting, this Wall Sconce from Bella Notte holds a realistic flameless candle that brings an understated elegance to any room, without the need to worry about blowing it out at the end of the night!

If you’re a fan of the real thing and also want to add a delicious fragrance into the mix to tantalise the senses, this duo from Yankee Candle is the perfect pair to have flickering away in the background of your perfect evening.

Fabulous Foodie Picks

roast-rib-of-beefWithout a doubt, our favourite part of staying in is creating mouthwatering concoctions to warm the cockles and keep us satisfyingly full; you won’t find a salad on our autumn menu! Take a look at our Seasonal Recipes page for ideas that we guarantee will tickle your tastebuds.

805409-v-008-le-creuset-signature-cast-iron-round-chefs-panVegetable stews and hearty meat dishes are usually the order of the day for our autumn evenings in. You’ll need something robust and reliable to make them in though, they need to be cooked for a long time on a low heat. Enter the Cast Iron Chef’s Pan from Le Creuset. It’s durable, versatile and looks gorgeous sat on your kitchen counter to boot. Mmm, we can almost taste our delicious creations already!

A warming main requires an equally comforting dessert and we can’t think of anything better than a delightfully squidgy brownie, warmed to perfection with just a dash of cream (we won’t tell if you don’t). Have you tried this selection of 12 from Gower Cottage? Our favourite’s the hazelnut but there’s some fantastic flavours to try, two that are gluten-free!

Now that dinner’s over, it’s time to grab a hot chocolate (this Whittard’s collection is to die for), a bowl of popcorn and head on through to the lounge for the final phase of our evening.

Cosying Up

Quality time on the sofa is what autumn’s all about; total relaxation must be observed after a day of battling the elements (and maybe the sniffles). For the ultimate in comfort, you HAVE to try a Slanket. Choose your favourite jazzy design, slot your arms through the holes and drape the fleecy fabric over yourself for a cosy experience like no other. Now if only they were acceptable in the workplace…

If you’re after a more luxurious experience, Kelly Hoppen’s Frosted Fox faux fur throw is ideal. It’s stylish, understated and so soft. You’ll be drifting off to sleep happily underneath this snuggly piece.

If you can manage to keep your eyes open for just a little longer, we recommend getting stuck into a good film or an exciting TV show. The Apple TV gives you access to thousands of HD films and TV shows from iTunes and you can control it all from your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch… so there’s no need to leave the sofa!

So how are we feeling now? Just about ready for those autumn nights to roll in? Already penciling in a date for an evening of seasonal magic? We do hope so!

What a lovely read this was! There’s nothing I like more than getting home from walking the terriers, whacking on my slippers (or ‘fluffies’ as I like to call them :D) and cooking up a nice stew for my hubby Allen. Xxx June x
