Crafter Stephanie Weightman reveals the latest craft trend

Stephanie WeightmanHello crafters, Stephanie here.

Random thoughts often pop into my head, everything from colours to ideas for cards and themes. I keep a notebook beside my bed for those midnight moments when I just can’t sleep because of the ideas. I would love to pull all the thoughts out to clear my head, but I think it would just be a random string of words.

As strange as it sounds words and slogans are everywhere at the moment. Rrecently I went to a trade fair that launches all kinds of new products and all that we saw were words – words and phrases were everywhere. We saw everything from greeting cards to home decor, kitchen equipment and pencil cases all adorned with words and even 'text' speak!

I looked around my house this week and realised we have words everywhere, from the bookshelves bursting with craft books (and the odd cheesy chick lit novel too) to my decorative wooden letters in the window sill spelling out 'Live' – although visitors often have fun rearranging the letters to spell out other words like a super-sized game of scrabble!

Decorative words are a trend that we’ll be seeing everywhere for quite a while to come and when you think about it, words are one of the few things in life that we can truly say ‘they are everywhere’. A very good friend of mine, Nancy Watt, recently attended two weddings. At both weddings there were large letters spelling out Mr & Mrs and then the surname beside the beautiful wedding cake.

So whether it's a wedding, birthday, Christmas or any other celebration that I am making my cards for, one thing lately I am sure of is that words will be one of the main design elements that I use. I hope by using them in my crafting they might leave me alone at night so I can get some sleep!
