Craft guest Amy Shaw on her visit to USArtQuest…

Amy and Susan"Just got back from the windy city, the windy city is mighty pretty"… well, I wasn't in Chicago, I was in Michigan, but couldn't think of a song for that one!

Hi everyone, I've got so much to tell you all about my trip out to USArtQuest in Michigan, USA last week. I was invited over by Susan Pickering Rothamel, the lovely owner of the company (who you may have seen on QVC last year).

I went to stay with her in her home and learn about all her wonderful products and amazing techniques. Yes, as you can imagine, I was so excited and was like a kid in a candy store!

I arrived (after an unscheduled overnight stay in New York as my flight was cancelled) in Detroit, Michigan, last Thursday where Sue picked me up and it was straight into work at USArtQuest. We went to the offices, which are set in beautiful countryside surroundings with wildlife aplenty – so inspiring.

Watercolour palette Sue gave me the guided tour and introduced me to her fab team and showed me where they do everything, from manufacture to shipping and teaching. It's an amazing place and truly fascinating seeing their products in raw form right through to on the tables for teaching!

We began with Sue introducing me fully to every product and telling me the background of USArtQuest – why it came about, why it's important to Sue that everything is non-toxic and why they use Mica (the natural product that USArtQuest are famous for). It was so fascinating!

We then went off to Sue's home (my home for the next five days!) where I was settled in and shown around her truly amazing studio. It was a crafter's dream with so much natural light and so many goodies and tools! I couldn't believe that I was going to be able to work in there for the next few days – truly honoured!

Napkin collage kit So, the next few days were spent playing with all the goodies, including watercolour palettes (above), Perfect Paper Adhesive, napkin collage (left) and lots, lots more that I can't tell you about yet! It was truly such an honour to be sat across from Sue for the week learning lots and lots of new techniques and really getting to play with her amazing products.

I now can't wait to share everything with you all, especially the brand new kits that are going to be in the show. My lips are tightly sealed until then though. Argh, it's killing me! You can take a look at some of the projects we worked on below though.

So, make sure you join me for a full hour of USArtQuest products on the 15th June at 2pm. It's going to be full of brand new products, brand new techniques and lots and lots of demonstrating – I can't wait!

See you all then.

Amy x

I enjoyed the show and the dreamweaver show – gained some useful tips and enjoyed the banter. I have the artquest mica watercolour paints and they give a lovely finish to projects.
