New craft guest Angela Southey on quilting with Sizzix

Craft guest AngelaHi! I'm Angela, and I'm going to be on QVC on Monday 30th July for the Sizzix quilting show. I have so many patchwork and quilting projects to show you! The photos here are just a small selection of them.

I have always sewn from as early as I can remember, but became interested in patchwork and quilting when I worked in a fabric shop which specialised in cotton fabrics for these disciplines. A love affair began and I have been making quilts and other items ever since.

Pink quilted cushionI really enjoy piecing the patches together and assembling the whole project and quilting – but cutting out has always been a bit of a chore. So when I discovered Sizzix were creating a range of dies for patchwork and quilting I was very excited! Using the dies to cut makes the process so much faster, as you can cut multiple layers at the same time and know they will all be the right shape and size.

The dies make cutting curves quick and easy too. This means that I can create projects like the Dresden Plate and the Apple Core very easily. And hexagons are so much quicker to do now as well – in fact I used to avoid making anything with hexagons because I found the process too time consuming – now using the dies to cut I am a convert and am enjoying making them for the first time (look out for these on the show!).

QuillowOne of my favourite things about the range is that with the 2 1/2" strips, I can cut my own ‘jelly rolls’ from my stash of fabrics and then make lots of lovely quilts from them.

Look out for the rainbow coloured quillow project, a quick and useful make created with this die – perfect for all of you who have children going to university in the autumn.

The applique dies are delicious – and I have so many ideas for projects for them, and I hope to have some more to show you on the show. With these dies you can design and create so many gifts for family and friends – if you start now you could easily have Christmas presents sewn up!

Make sure you tune in to QVC on Monday 30th July to catch the fab, colourful range!

i have purchased these 5 dies and would love to know what sort of patterns you can make with them,do you have any names so i can get an idea what they look like, you only showed repeatedly how to cut fabric with the dies and i saw you had a sampler quilt which would have been great to see what you can do. all the best ANGELA love from Susan.

    Hi Angela,
I am a new Big Shot owner and keen to make something with my quilting dies. I have just bought my first few quilt dies and am keen to find something to make with them. I know the Sissix website has some free patterns. Is there a group I could join that you know of? I’d be so grateful for your advice. Thanks so much.
