Confessions of a Bathaholic

In the bathRather random topic to blog about but I absolutely love baths! I know that not all of us have the luxury of putting 15 – 20 minutes aside every evening to relax and unwind in peace but if you can it’s worth it. Let’s step aside from the functional aspects of cleaning ourselves and look into the additional benefits.

Like indulging in fine cuisine, the key to the best bath is the right ingredients. This is what I think it takes…

A peaceful environment with the bathroom door closed, so it feels like a mini spa sanctuary with the promise of no interruption. Add ‘This Works’ Deep Sleep Bath Oil – three to four drops into running hot water and begin to inhale the wonderful aromas from the steam. Cover the ends of your hair in Philip Kingsley Elasticizer and tie it back so it’s out of the way.

If I have more time, I let the bath fill to two-thirds full, and just before slipping in I pop a fluffy freshly washed towel on the radiator/towel rail ready to wrap myself in afterwards. It’s also a lovely little luxury to give yourself a mini facial; try Elemis Cleanser followed by Eve Lom face mask, which you can leave on for the entire duration of the bath.

I like to pop on some relaxing music too to really help me unwind. The key to truly relaxing is to try and totally clear your mind, close your eyes and try a spot of meditation. If that feels a little odd, start with five minutes of deep belly breathing, inhale for 4-5 seconds and exhale for 6-7 seconds – I find this to be deeply relaxing. Imagine leaving your actual body and floating up above yourself, watching yourself relaxing below. In fact, do whatever it takes to empty your mind of everyday stresses and problems, they are banned from bath time.

I’ve found that a good bath made with the right ingredients can help you unwind and relax, helps you to sleep better, releases tension and relaxes aching muscles. Being surrounded by water is like being given a gigantic hug and it seems to have a welcoming effect on our well being.

So next time you are considering a shower before bed see if you can take a few extra minutes for a lovely bath, your body and mind will thank you for it.

I am totally with you on this! The bathroom is MY room in the house. Door locked, music on and 30 mins to myself…or like today 1 WHOLE HOUR! (Rare). It is so important after a day on my feet for me to relax mind and body, head to toe. Even better is to be joined in ‘my time’ by those must haves from QVC.
My Elemis Pro-Radiance Cleanser has about 2 more goes left, then I’m thinking of having a go with Liz Earle.
At 25 years old with a wedding in 6 weeks and working 12 hour days, I can’t stress enough how relaxation is a necessity for all. Healthy mind shows in a healthy body.
