Author of the 'Clean and Lean' lifestyle series of books, fitness expert and co-owner of Bodyism, London's premier fitness studio, James Duigan is one of the world's top fitness trainers. His many celebrity clients include Elle Macpherson, Rosie Huntington-Whitely and Hugh Grant!
James and his beautiful wife (cover girl for James' books) joined me recently on QVC to present the 'Clean and Lean Diet Cookbook'. The book sold out within about eight minutes! James and Christiane will be joining us again on the 3rd and 5th of July on the morning show (9am weekdays) so I caught up with them to get me started on my 14-day clean and lean regime, which is featured in his book.
I arrived at noon at the luxuriously exquisite Bulgari Hotel, whose neighbours consist of Harrods and the lavish and highly coveted address of One Hyde Park. The exclusive spa and fitness centre, which is home to Bodyism, is spread over two entire floors.
First step was to take weight and measurement details with Teagan and Lee. Using sophisticated callipers, my body fat was measured. It was encouraging to hear that my tummy fat would be relatively easily shed. This was determined by the fact it was very soft and squishy fat!
Harder, firmer flab can take a bit longer to lose. I was also asked about my sleeping patterns. Apparently waking at certain times can indicate certain lacks in the body. In my case, I tend to wake around 4.30am, which told the team I was very likely suffering low antioxidant levels. I recently had a full health screening and my tests showed that I was antioxidant deficient! Blueberries, I think it's time you and I became more closely acquainted!
Next I was joined by James and Christiane in the gym. Beautiful wood paneling and soft lighting made the space feel very peaceful and retreat like. The gyms I've known in the past have often been starkly and brightly lit, had jarring high-energy tracks blasting at full volume and smelled of sweaty bodies! This couldn't have been more different and the other gym users were friendly and unintimidating. Very refreshing.
James took me through some exercises gently and gave me a short and simple regime of exercises I could do at home in between my visits to the gym. We're aiming for three visits per week. I'm confident I can fit it in on my working days either before or after my shifts. Although gym visits are preferable, you can do James' exercises at home and there are recommendations in the book.
After the fitness test was complete, James made me a shake full of great ingredients. Some sounded like the listings of our most sophisticated skincare ranges! Marine collagen, to name but one, to hydrate from the inside out. James said it's like you're drinking a superfood salad!
Chlorophyll, which is used to alkaline the system so we're not too acidic, is added to combat the stress chemicals, which can hold on to belly fat. It's all making a whole lot of sense. I was surprised that it tasted really good too. Who knew being this healthy could really taste good?!
James also went through diaphragmatic breathing with me and recommended I do it for even a minute or two per day which will increase oxygen flow and offer multiple health benefits.
Christiane was extremely helpful and shared some great hints and tips. One was regarding supermarket shopping. If you shop the perimeters of the supermarket you'll be shopping more healthfully. There you find fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables. The deeper into the aisles you go the more processed food you find such as biscuits, crisps and ready meals.
Now I can't promise that I will completely convert to being clean to get lean, but I am definitely going to give it a try, at least for the next couple of weeks, to see what you might achieve within your 30-day money back guarantee period, but I plan to stick to it longer to really feel all the benefits that are not only restricted to aesthetics.
I'm currently lying peacefully by the tranquil and breathtakingly beautiful pool, which I have joyfully completed several lengths of. Not a requirement of the fitness regime but a wonderful compulsion to feel the water around me. Soft, gentle music is playing (Bose soundsystem) and the sound of water is so soothing. The vitality pool is my next destination in a moment. It's like a giant massaging jet pool!
I will begin with my clean and lean regime on Monday 11th June. I'll be updating my blog to let you know how I get on. I really want to hear from you if you have tried James Duigan's Clean and Lean books and other products. What do you think?
