Hello one and all! Hope you’re all well and that the sun is shining down wherever you are!!
I was just thinking the other day about how nice it always is to catch up and have a good old natter with friends over a cuppa, but don’t you think the whole coffee thing has gone a bit nuts in the last 10 years or so? Listen, I love a morning coffee as much as the next person, but the world has indeed I reckon become a tad obsessed with this whole coffee culture thing. It’s a huge business!! You can’t go anywhere without seeing the hordes rushing about their daily lives with their take away cups filled with small, medium, large lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, Americanos, skinny ones, flat whites, ones with vanilla shots, caramel shots, mocca-chocca-whatever, blah blah blah!!!! What happened to a plain old cup of coffee????!!

My middle son Phil has become quite the coffee snob as, for the past year, he’s been supporting his studies as a barista in one of the top coffee places in London (and he would be really insulted if you thought it was one of a chain)!! This, I feel, is rather rich since he originally cut his teeth at a major coffee chain (starts with the word “star”) 8 years ago whilst doing his GCSE’s!!! But oh no Mum, you just don’t understand, coffee is serious business!! I’ve included a wee video of him doing that funny coffee art thing but I really want to get a video of him making a “V60”. Not sure if you’re familiar with it, but what a palaver!!!! There’s so much faffing around just to make what to me is intrinsically simply a black coffee. Yes it tasted good, and me being a nice mummy did all the oohing and aahhing in all the right places!! But really? Didn’t quite like to say that I’m just as happy with a cup of regular Nescafé (or any other brand of coffee for that matter).
The other random photo below is from when I last flew to Italy. It was a stunning view of the alps that I was quite happy to snap up on my phone. Seem to remember it was an early morning flight so was probably sipping my morning cuppa. V60 anyone? I don’t think so! No coffee art here on your regular B.A. flight to Naples (or any other airline for that matter)!!!!!!
Keep smiling 🙂
PS. A huge congratulations to Helen Burns who won my last competition. Sounded like those Philosophy goodies were winging their way to you at just the right time. So well done Helen!! Xx
