Well the last thing you could call me at the moment is Bella!!!!
It’s the big family holiday in Italy. I left on Tuesday morning to get things ready and the troops arrive on Friday (all seven of them!!).
I arrived at the airport at 4.30am and it’s always a bit of worry when the check in people say “I’m sorry madam but the conveyor belts that take the cases to the planes are all broken today, but please just leave your case over there with the 17 million others (ok she didn’t actually say 17 million!) and they will be taken manually. Please don’t worry!!”……….please don’t worry????
The whole of Gatwick was in mad panic!!!!
Anyway being the eternal optimist, I left thinking it’ll be ok. The plane left on time more or less, so I remained positive. Upon landing however the pilot added to his usual welcome speech that a “few” cases didn’t make it onto the plane!! From a full flight (around 250 passengers), if there were 20 cases that came out that would be me being kind!!!
Three hours later of utter pandemonium at Naples airport (no change there then!!), waiting to fill in paperwork and one missed train connection for the 200 mile onward journey, I finally arrive at my destination by taxi!!! (Cost more than the flight!!) Reason being, no more trains available for the next two days!!
Well I’m here now…
Weather great, food fabulous but me looking like the biggest fashion faux pas Italy has seen in a long time!! Yes I have a few clothes in the apartment here, but sadly due to the fabulous food here none of them fit anymore. So aside from the outfit I arrived in and a few bits of make-up………that’s it I’m afraid.
This is the extreme south of Italy and there are very few decent shops and so I had to resort to buying two sundresses from one of the vendors on the beach yesterday!! I have one old swimsuit that’s seen better days, and that’s my wardrobe.
No sign of my case although it’s saying on the system that it’s arrived, and of course you could have to remortgage to cover the cost of being on hold on the phone for hours on end!! Do I sound like I’m moaning? I’m so not!! Hardly a biggy!! Annoying but not major!! When I saw that there were two couples at the airport that had come over to get married………..no wedding dresses or bridesmaids dresses etc……my couple of swimsuits and a few Kim & Co dresses hardly seemed to matter.
And just in case you’re thinking, well why not get the others to bring stuff out on Friday when they come, that’s not half as straightforward as it sounds!! They are not checking in any luggage as we can’t afford for all seven of them to miss the train should the plane be delayed!! Hence “no room at the inn” as they say!!
And quite apart from all that I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes trying to explain to my youngest to take out one pair of cropped trousers, a top and a swimsuit for me to try to squeeze into their hand luggage but to no avail!! He can’t find them!! Men eh? (Sorry guys!!) I’ve told him just to leave it as I could end up with anything and what I’m wearing at the moment is only marginally better than the Carole Hochman PJs I could end up getting!!
Still mustn’t complain, he has found an extra supply of my bareMinerals foundation!!
So that’s it folks. Good job I’m not one for photos, and somehow I don’t think I’ll be hearing the words “Ciao Bella” too often either this holiday!! 🙂 (Well maybe when hubby arrives!!)
Maybe my case will turn up today????? Oooohhh! What’s that large pink thing flying over there??? Now Anne where’s that optimism gone!!!!
Catch up soon,
