Christmas Spirit

28

Thank you so much for all the Christmas cards you have been sending in to QVC, it really is appreciated, particularly at such a busy time of year for everybody – I’ll put some pictures of them up on here next week. Thanks also to those of you who have sent in gifts. I won’t open most of them until Christmas morning but I have opened one as I guessed what it was. Christine messaged me on Facebook and asked if I would like a hand made bauble with the word ‘believe’ written on it and a white feather inside it. Those of you who have read my books know that I am a ‘believer’ in white feathers so of course I said yes – thank you Christine, so very thoughtful.

I still haven’t written my Christmas cards so need to make a start this weekend. I bought my cards from Bloodwise (formerly known as Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research) this year to help raise money for them to add to the money raised with my first novel. It is ongoing that a percentage of the sales of ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’ will go to Bloodwise, but I did a little tot up the other day and so far you have helped me raise over £1000 from sales of the book. Signed copies are still available on the QVC website, 705211, as they ordered a few more to satisfy any Christmas demand. Thanks so much to those of you who have left a review – there are now thirteen five star reviews and you have made some heart-warming comments for which I’m truly grateful.

outside house

I may not have written any Christmas cards yet or put any decorations up inside the house but outside is now looking festive. I retrieved my Bethlehem Lights hanging basket and wreath from their storage in the shed and also wound lights around the small leylandii trees in pots on either side of the front door. The cafe style lights are draped over a bush for a bit of colour and we put more coloured lights over the arch in the back garden that we can see from the kitchen. I planted some cyclamen in Rudolph the Reindeer and his friend the penguin and also treated myself to a new Christmas cactus plant after someone, who shall remain nameless but I think you know his name, killed my old one off through over watering!

We won’t be putting up any indoor decorations until we get the Christmas tree. We always have a real tree so that won’t be for another week to prevent it dropping. We did however put Daniel’s little tree up when we visited Swansea last weekend. He loves Christmas but he probably wouldn’t have bothered with his tree unless I’d suggested it because he will be back with us over the festive period. In the end all of us went down for my little book event last Sunday at Morgan’s.Thank you to the people who came to say hello, I was made to feel very welcome. I don’t want to talk too much about books on here, you can check www.juliarobertsbooks.co.uk for more information if you would like, but I thought you may be interested in seeing the interview I did for Chiswick Buzz with our lovely QVC guest Lorna Ko.

Because Sophie had come with us to Swansea, we had to drive back late on Sunday night as she was working on Monday. That meant we missed seeing Vicky crowned as queen of the jungle. I’m so pleased it was her – she really deserved it in my opinion. I also agree with the final three for the X Factor final. I know Reggie & Bollie weren’t the best vocalists in the show but they are very entertaining – I think Louisa should win, although I love Che’s voice! I wasn’t so pleased with the bottom two of Strictly last Saturday. Georgia and Helen!? Really? I think two people had a very lucky escape last week. Jay or Georgia to win – both beautiful to watch. It’s funny how much more TV I see now that I don’t really do evenings on QVC anymore because of my medication.

One final mention of telly – my team were again in action on SKY’s Monday Night Football. They were playing Everton and in the end a draw was possibly a fair result. It might have been different if the real Wilfie (Wilfred Zaha) had been eligible to play – our Wilfie (the cat) did his best to help out although when he started chasing the ball on the screen of our new Samsung curved TV we had to give him a red card to prevent him scratching it.

So this Sunday we have our final Beauty Day of the year. The brand selected for the Today’s Special Value offer is bareMinerals  who also have the Beauty Product of the Month. I don’t normally use Mineral Veil but this new one (the POM) is fab and terrific value with three times the normal quantity and comes with free P&P. Not only that but beautifully boxed, so perfect as a gift. Check out the Beauty Channel for SJ’s tips on how to get the best from it. I’m with the girls at 2pm on Sunday afternoon, then I have Gatineau at 4pm and Molton Brown at 6pm.

I also have a beauty show at 3pm on Saturday. Keeley is over from Cyprus for her final Elemis shows of the year – I’m so pleased to be working with her and hope you can join us.
On Monday we have a Lulu Guiness TSV – it is already showing on our website if you wanted to order early. I spotted it whilst buying something for Sophie – I can’t say what in case she reads this and then it would spoil the surprise! I have also ordered Daniel’s present. He knows what it is as I had to run the spec by him. It’s a new Acer laptop that Lee Hobein tipped me off about. It’s launching on air tomorrow and is available in grey or white ( item number 507303) and in two screen sizes. I feel like I’m getting there with my Christmas shopping but haven’t ticked off ‘him indoors’ yet.

Well I must dash – Fashion on Friday is back today at 5pm with Marble and hopefully I’ll also see you at 7pm for a show that is meant to include our Skechers TSV, if it hasn’t sold out by then.

Have a good weekend
much love
Julia xx

PS Just for fun and to get you in a Christmassy mood, what is your elf name?

    Hi Julia
Glad your getting on top of your xmas shopping. I’ve nearly finished mine too.
I wanted to mention that I always look on the TV guide to see when your shows are as I always enjoy your hours. . But because the ‘NEW TV GUIDE’ now doesn’t let us know who is presenting I will miss seeing you as much. We all have our favourite presenters & I felt it was a good way of keeping in touch with you all!, have been watching you for last 20 yrs!!!
Especially as I don’t do social media!!! Will try to catch you on fashion at 5 on Fridays anyway. Hope you can mention this to the clever person who decided to change what was a really good TV guide. Sadly no more!!!
Well Happy Xmas. Glad your keeping well. Enjoying the books.
    Love from Julie xx

      Hi Julie
Thanks for bringing the issue of the TV guide up on here. I have now mentioned it to the Presenter manager and he has assured me that it is being looked into and the Presenter names will hopefully be re-instated in the new year.
I am so pleased you enjoy my shows and my books – the feedback is very gratifying.
      Christmas shopping almost finished now.

      Hi Pam
The night after we took the photo of the lights outside the house we had to replace the batteries – they were last year’s. They look even prettier now that they are brighter.
I do enjoy my shows on QVC – I’m so lucky to have a job I enjoy.
Both our football teams are having a good season this year – long may it last!

Hi Julia, i have just watched the Elemis show with you and Keeley. Loving the men’s products as always.
One little niggle though, i am not liking the new TV Guide as it no longer says who is presenting the shows and i have always liked to see when my favourite presenters are going to be on. (you are included of course!! :-)…..Maybe a little word to those in the know to get the presenter details back on to the TV Guide would be much appreciated by me and i am guessing many other QVC viewers.
    Have a happy Christmas!
    Regards
    Chris

Hello Julia and happy St. Lucy’s Day. I’m watching Beauty Day and making stollen which is something I love to do but is quite a drawn out process – all that proving… Your blog was jam packed as always and I loved your photos, especially the ones of your door and the gorgeous Wilfie. I love front doors and the different ways people style them, Pinterest is full of them and I lose track of time quite easily. I think the TSV is fantastic and I wish that I could use mineral foundation. Unfortunately it brings me out in spots which is not a good look with crows feet so I’ll wait for Molton Brown, my all time favourite, and indulge. I’m so pleased that Holly’s second story is receiving so many good reviews and I’m going to read mine after Ellie’s wedding when I can relax. love from Jo x

      Hi Jo
I’ve never made stollen – I’ve eaten though and really like it. I used to make Chelsea buns years ago – must try them again after Christmas.
I’m thinking it must be Ellie’s wedding this weekend? I hope the whole family has a wonderful day – Kathy Tayler’s daughter gets married this weekend too. I bet neither of them imagined the weather would be so mild!
Did you treat yourself to any Molton a Brown? It was a great show.
No rush to read If He Really Loved Me… – the third book won’t be ready until May. I have been thrilled with the reception it has had though.
Have a super weekend Flirty PointyToes

Yes I will get a review put up on Amazon this week, really enjoying the second book.

Had to laugh at Wilfie watching the footie, bless him.

Beautiful Lulu Guinness bag, gorgeous colours. No I did not treat myself this time to anything from Links, maybe next time.

Glad your book signing went well.

    Take care.

      Hello Jean
The house is really welcoming to come home to after a day at work – I always feel sad when the lights come down on Twelfth Night.
Wilfie loves watching football but Milo prefers films – I’ll put some pictures on my new blog.
I’m glad you are enjoying my new book – no rush for the Amazon review as we’re all so busy at this time of year, just whenever you have a few moments.

This is Candy Sugarsocks here!! I love the name lists!! Well, Julia, I have finished your new novel, LOVED it!!! You have grown in confidence as a writer, much stronger & sure. What I appreciate is how you weave the strands of the story thru ( puts me in mind of Alan Bennett’s Lady in the Van) keep the interest & guessing & gradually each one is tied in a neat bow to be lift or untied in another story. Your characters are so well formed & immediately visible in my mind’s eye. Just the description of how that mean publisher was dressed made me know just what she’d be like!!! Your description of places are spot on, I can smell the sea, feel the sun & I’d recognise them if I saw pictures in a brochure!! The relationship between Holly & son is palpable, even the fringe characters are vivid & rounded. The ending was perfect, neat but realistic to life!! Congratulations, you are an excellent storyteller, can’t wait for the final book in the trilogy. Have a restful, peaceful, happy festive time. Hugs Sue xx

      Oh Candy SugarSocks
What a fabulous comment about my new book. I LOVED writing it, the words really did flow and I’m so happy that people seem to be enjoying it. Could I trouble you to write me a review on Amazon – no rush as you must be tied up with all things Christmassy! Maybe you could just copy & paste? Hark at me sounding all computer literate!
Thank you so much, you’ve made my day.

    Hi Julia,
Your interview was in my local paper tonight. I hope Daniel has saved a copy for you or I could keep it to send to you? They did a very good write up I must say.
I decided to get yet another Christmas tree this year. I find it hard on my back by the time I get all my Christmas things out from where I keep them under my stairs. I end up not being able to move afterwards. So I bought a Blossom Tree that I just had to plug in. It did take a while to pull out all the branches though. I hung some baubles on it and some “cup-cake” decorations that I bought down Porthcawl last week. It looks quite pretty. I have now got three trees! I used to put my 6 foot tree in my bay window and my smaller green tree in my living room. But its too much for me these days. I would love to have a real tree one year. Perhaps when we eventually move house!!! LOL. I remember when I was a little girl we had a real tree. My mother got so annoyed because of the needles dropping, she threw it through the window! Of course she broke the window and my father had to cover it over with plastic.Happy days! My father was very inventive. One year he got hold of a holly tree and used that as a Christmas tree. My elder sister tells me it looked really pretty. He used to make a lot of my toys as well which were really unusual and unique. There was a programme on BBC 2 tonight about past Christmas traditions etc. It brought back fond memories and reminded me of how grateful we were for the things we got then.
Anyway, I hope you’ve sorted out your Christmas shopping. I tried to buy some food to put by but its difficult if the food dates are up before Christmas.
Well I’m off to my bed. Hubby has caught a cold , so look out. You know what men are like when they get a cold, they swear its flu.
    Take care, Tina x

      Hi Tina
Sorry it took so long for your post to appear on here – comments have to be screened before they appear on our blogs and our team are snowed under at the moment.
Daniel did get me a SW Evening Post so he’ll bring it home with him when he comes back for Christmas and New Year. I’m relieved it was a nice piece. The journalist and I chatted for about 45 minutes and it was lovely that they sent a photographer to the book signing.
Thanks for your card by the way. I finally finished opening them all and sending cards out to those with addresses so you should get yours soon.
I can sympathise with your hubby. My cold started as just that BUT on Monday I felt absolutely dreadful – dizzy and nauseous. I was feeling so bad that I missed the Presenter Christmas lunch and had to take a day of sick leave – almost unheard of for me! I’m still struggling with a chesty cough and bad throat. It seems to be doing the rounds of the Presenters at the moment.
I hope you will enjoy your many and varied Christmas trees and other decorations
      Love

    Hi Julia
Great blogathon as per. The front of your house looks beautiful. I have a Bethlehem Lights hanging basket but I have mine in a jardiniere in the lounge. It looks lovely. I’ll tweet you a picture over the hols if I remember. I have a lovely long break from work from Christmas Eve to Jan 11th. And I need it!
I’m really routing for Jay in the Strictly final. I think he’s just brilliant and such a lovely lad.
Onto book 2 then. As Kylie said (or rather sang) I’m spinning around!! At least my head is! You’ve weaved quite a tangled Web there. It’s anyones guess whose hands are on Holly’s shoulders at the end of the trilogy. And I’m guessing that Carol is Holly’s mum? I know, I’ll have to wait and see. You’ve really done a brilliant job with those books and the characters are so interesting. Bravo once again. I can’t wait for book 3. I’ll write a review on Amazon over the weekend.
    Love
    Marian xx

      Hi Marian
I’m feeling more than a little envious of your long Christmas break – I’m working on the 23rd then back in on Boxing Day, 27th, 29th & 30th. I do have a few days break after that … I’ll need it!
I think the right people are now in the final four of Strictly with the exception of Helen, who in my opinion deserved a place. Jay was wonderful again last Saturday.
I am so thrilled that you seem to have enjoyed book 2 as much as book 1 – I promise I’m not introducing another character in book 3 whose hands could be resting on Holly’s shoulders, so it does narrow it down to three. Thank you for your compliments and for volunteering to write an Amazon review – whenever you have time is fine with me.
By the way, I just heard I’m at the Beauty Bash on the Tuesday!

    Hi Julia,
My previous comment seems to have disappeared so here goes again! Hope you’re all sorted for Christmas. I dropped off the last of my Christmas presents today. So its just last minute food I’ll have to get at my local shops as I’ll be avoiding going to town as the parking is atrocious. I called up one of my friends today. She’s taken in a stray cat .The RSPCA had to amputate its tail as it was badly infected. Its a very timid cat .I would so love another cat. There’s a little ginger cat by my sister’s. I don’t know if its a stray. It looks so sad and pathetic. I’m trying to get her to take it in. I dare not look at it as I’d be tempted to take it home.
Well I’ve had to have part of my roof renewed today and hopefully they are going to repair my window where I’ve had water getting in again. There’s always something that goes wrong near Christmas.
Wishing all the best for Christmas. Hope you’ve received my Christmas card.

I hope your roof and window got fixed properly this time.
I hope your sister will take the little ginger cat in if it’s a stray – I hate to think of these poor animals alone and frightened – maybe you should adopt it!
