Christmas is finally just days away and it’s crept up on me like a good ‘un.
I’ve been knocked out by a truly dreadful cold which has really put me on the back foot. I had some terrible coughing fits on air last week so I apologise for that. But the show must go on and all that! I’m back on your TV screens this Thursday, Saturday and Sunday with some magnificent shows and offers for you to get all those last-minute bits and bobs for the festive season.
Yesterday I took the new Christmas tree around to my mum’s and we decorated it together. Then last night Austen put up our tree – do you like it? What will you be doing for Christmas this year?
My big brother Tony is cooking – he’s a dab hand and the more the merrier as far as he’s concerned — he really adores cooking. At least 10 of us Coles will piling around to my mum’s lovely new retirement flat to celebrate her first Christmas there – she’s as happy as Larry. Apart from Christmas Day we’ll be mainly lounging around at home (me in my Cozee Home onesie), watching movies, nibbling on party food, and generally chilling. And getting over this horrid cold to be fresh for 2015!
I did some more media training for the BBC last month in Birmingham. They are searching for new experts to be on TV and radio – I was pretty in awe of the scientists, mathematicians and business gurus I spent the day with. I put all 24 delegates on the training course through their paces in the very news studio I spent much of my time as a Newsreader: at BBC Midlands Today up in Birmingham. It was lovely to be back! A really fun day and all the delegates said they felt they learned so much.
I’ve been a busy girl packing in lots of concerts – Austen and I took mum to see the superb John Wilson Orchestra celebrating a night of Cole Porter’s amazing tunes at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. My pal Toni and I relived our tender teenage years whimpering at the sight of Peter Gabriel on his Back To Front tour at the LG Arena (next to the NEC). He played some of the very best from his iconic album ‘SO’ which was released back in 1986. I had the cassette and practically wore it out in my bedroom, playing it repeatedly and singing all the words. It really had a profound effect on me. And little did I know until I met my pal Toni McDonald a few years ago, that it has the same effect on her. I pretty much worshipped him when I was a girl.
So Peter G might be in his 60s now… but I tell you he still has that theatrical side to him. There were lots of video cameras on stage and he, his band and backing singers also did bits of acting. It was an awesome gig.

Then to cap it all Austen and I also enjoyed a fabulous night in the company of the incredible crooner himself: Michael Buble. If you’ve not seen him, then do try and get tickets or buy a DVD and put the surround sound speakers on – he is such a showman.
I think he can be compared to the brilliant US entertainers of the 1950s – Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and so on. He really is very witty, played games with the audience, sang his best tunes, and also some new ones. He was superb and worth every penny.
So here’s wishing you the very best this festive season.
