How are we all diddling then?
Christmas is only a month away (less by the time you read this! Yikes!) Love it! Love it! Love it! No bah humbug from this lady! I know it can all easily get out of hand, but years ago I stumbled across a wee fool-proof way to take the stress out of Christmas.
So see if you can guess. This is going to be in exam style – multiple choice – get ready…
Which method does Mrs Dawson employ to take the stress out of Christmas?
Choose one of the following answers:
A: She buys all her presents and has them wrapped before December 1st
B: She never asks the children what they want and convinces them that "surprises" are much better, thus saving mucho time!!!!!
C: She avoids being stuck in the kitchen on Christmas Day by having lunch in a lovely
D: none of the above
Well, yes you've guessed it! It is indeed "D"… none of the above.
Years ago, during much tougher times financially, we really had to budget quite hard. So that budget when it was set for presents, food, etc. was indeed set in stone rigidly! In many ways it makes it much easier when you have an overall figure to work with. It's then split into all the relevant areas and that's that.
Even with the kids, they were given Santa's budget and chose their presents accordingly (we always calculated on spending a little more on them, but that was on very much a need-to-know basis).
I still operate this system. Yes indeed as things have got easier over the years, that figure in the budget may have increased, but the principle has always remained the same. And should things alter, then so will the budget. Boring? Probably! But it has been my saving grace over the years.
Now I realise I work for a shopping channel (would be extremely worrying if I didn't!!), and this may sound like I'm waxing lyrical about the joys of QVC, but in truth there really is something for all budgets when it comes to Christmas shopping here.
You've probably noticed the photo (above), and you may well be thinking, "What's this? Is she buying everyone bags of coffee this year?"… no my lovely people, this is the Laura Geller Christmas TSV next Saturday 8th December!!
It's really fab, and the price? Well you shall have to tune in!! It's got the favourites in there and so much more besides. The idea of the coffee packaging is that it's so quick and easy, and probably will end up being as much a part of your daily routine as your morning cuppa.
I'm going to have to dash now, but just in case you were wondering about the other options on the above multiple choice question… all the other answers I have every intention of doing every year but it never quite works that way!! Hey ho! Onwards and upwards!!
Just a thought, drop me a line and let me know how you take the stress out of Christmas.
Ps: wedding update and photos in next blog (and I do promise that will be before Christmas 2014) xxx
