Christmas countdown

Snow-covered lane near Debbie's house Well, we're definitely in the final countdown to yuletide now – I know that because of the Christmas films on the telly, the music being played on the radio (wish I had £5 for every 'So Here It Is Merry Christmas!'), and a little thing called the 'QVC shopping days till Christmas' appearing at bottom of the QVC screen! Lol.

The bad weather has an upside though – makes everything more festive and beautiful. Here's my contribution to the 'snow snaps' doing their rounds on Facebook – this is a pretty snow-covered lane near my house – lovely!

So there I was, sending out all my Christmas cards to you guys, as promised in blog last week, and watching some of my must-see Christmas films. What are yours?

Mine are always Groundhog Day, Holiday Inn and White Christmas, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and one of the many Scrooge films – enjoyed the latest Jim Carey one very much last year. And so many more which I'll have waded through by 25th!

Debbie and Lauren in Pizza Express Lauren was helping me do envelopes – that'll be her writing on the front of the card! I had a lovely trip to see her in Bath at university, including lunch in Pizza Express – we're not in a wine cellar, honest!

Then we toured round the little Christmas Market – yes I love them if you hadn't realised from previous my blogs! Which one do you go to every year?

I bought some funny things for QVC colleagues – can't tell you about Jilly's and Craig's as they may read this! But my secret Santa pressie was stripy toe socks and some bubbles which you blow – remember those?! And as my Facebook friends will know, Barbara our manager got the one from me and promptly showered myself, Ali K and Julia with bubbles!

Anyway, I'm just off to buy the tree – I love having a real one because of the smell. Watch out for the pics of presenters' Christmas trees soon on QGossip!

And here's a final clip to help everyone get in the Christmas spirit – the scene in the middle of Bath with some super carol singers – unusual song, but the words are apt considering it was -2 that day!

    Hi Debbie,
Loved the blog! And love Bath! I’ve only been once but it was really beautiful. I’m sure your lovely daughter loves it? By the way how are the snow tyres helping you out?! Love to know! I soo wish I had them! We’ve so much snow and ice! I hope it goes soon as it’s really not fun anymore! Have a lovely Christmas with your lovely kids and pogs and a happy 2011 to you!
    Take care,
    Susan x

    Hi again Debs
Snow here in Workington, Cumbria is so dense it’s safer – and warmer – to avoid venturing outdoors if you don’t have to. Still, we do have to work; I don’t finish till christmas eve, and then only for 2 days. Same over new year. In my case, I’ve got to fit christmas in around work!
Got the dogs bought for – sure you have too – and Oscar needs an operation for an ulcer on his eye tomorrow. He’ll get a lampshade to wear for a fortnight, poor thing. Caspar will probably try to bite it.
Did send you a chrissie card, but royal mail have told us some post may not get delivered due to the weather. Sorry if it hasn’t arrived.
All pressies bought and wrapped and, most, delivered. Really, though, christmas is for the little ones. Does anyone actually remember why we celebrate it? I think they look forward to receiving presents.

Hi susan – hope you had a good xmas! Didn’t get delivery of the snow tyres in the end – tyre place were told their suppliers had run out completely cos Germany have made it compulsory so supplies are low! Should make it compulsory here too eh, considering what happens in bad snow – and we seem to be getting it very often nowadays!
    best wishes
ps i bought snow chains tho – not used them yet, and snow ‘socks’ which were great first time I used them – like shower caps you fit from side of tyre on the two drive tyres (I’m front wheel drive).

Louise – did Oscar’s operation go well? Big hugs to him! And hope you had time to relax – even if only a bit – over xmas and new year! I’m sitting here now in peace and quiet (Wed 5th) for first time on my own now everyone’s gone! Brief respite till I have to get cracking again on the chores – and back to writing!

Michelle – lovely to hear from you – hope the cats didn’t create too much work for you over xmas! I’d be a nightmare – they make me sneeze! Though not as bad as I used to be since my lovely lady homeopathist in Dorking gave me a six month course of homeopathy tablets that seem to have helped a lot! Anyway, four dogs is enough work! More of Daisy the escapologist’s escapades in next week’s blog (w/c 10th Jan).
