At QVC

It’s been the usual mix of shows for me this week, fashion, food, beauty and jewellery. That’s why I love my job so much, each day is so different and we get to work with lovely people and different guests from show to show. I had a great fashion show over on QVC Style Live with Glen Campbell who is always a pleasure to work with. We had a mixed hour including The Big Deal jumper from Denim & Co. which was incredibly popular but also a rather fabulous off-the-shoulder top from Du Jour. I had to tell you about it because it made me feel like summer is coming, or at least a snifter of spring. It had the right amount of ruffle and a good splash of colour and I thought it was really fun. You can wear it tunic style too but I chose to tuck it in. What do you think of it?

Other highlights included an always fun show with Helen Roysdotter and Pilgrim jewellery, I love their quirky modern designs, the Beauty Mart show with Millie Kendal and Anna-Marie Solowij which included some amazing glitter lip make-up, check out mine and Millie’s pouts, this will be the look of the summer I’m sure at all the festivals!!

Outside of QVC

This weekend was a busy one, on Friday night a simple civilised girls dinner night somehow accidentally ended up as a raucous night in Bournemouth at a Guns ’n Roses tribute night!! You know how those nights can happen? You fully intended to be home tucked up in bed by 11pm but somehow it’s suddenly 2am and you’re rocking it out to Paradise City like some kind of teenager who isn’t going to be woken up by their kids at 6.30am. Ooops. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen the picture of me and ‘Slash’ on my Instastories, oh dear. A very funny night but I’m certainly not a teenager anymore and felt very sorry for myself the next day.

On Saturday we headed up to my parents with the girls and caught up with some of my best school friends. One of my friends, Thali, has recently had her fourth child, a little girl called Tabitha so I was very excited to finally get to meet her. We all got to gather at hers on the Saturday afternoon and let all seven of our kids loose, they were all dancing crazily in the living room which I have to admit reminded me of my night out the night before!!

On Sunday we all got to be together again as it was our friend Alison’s son’s Christening, I still find it funny to see us all grown up with families of our own and children everywhere. I swear it was only a few years ago that we were all in school uniform without a care in the world when in fact it’s over 20 years ago. I wore a lilac and black dress from Onjenu, it has a peplum waist which is so flattering and hides any lumpy bits on the tummy, ‘winner winner chicken dinner’ as my little Ivy has taken to saying. I also got to have more cuddles with Tabitha, she’s the sweetest little baby in all the land.

What I’m using in beauty

I’ve been talking quite a lot about make-up the last two weeks so this week it’s back to skincare. After all if your skin isn’t in good shape then your make-up won’t be looking it’s best. So with the Alpha-H Today’s Special Value coming up at the end of the week I wanted to give it my attention. I have used a lot of Alpha-H in the past and am already a fan of a number of products, one of which is in this collection. I hadn’t used their cleanser before though and it was a pleasure to use. Creamy, balancing and hydrating. It took off all my stubborn eye make-up but most importantly didn’t leave me feeling stripped of moisture. I followed it with the Liquid Gold Eye Cream which is divine. It has a cooling applicator which feels great but I also saw instant results on my tired eyes. Peptides, brighteners, diamond powder and a new ingredient extracted from the rainforests in Australia all helped to make my eyes look like I hadn’t been out the night before!

Now I’m pretty sure many of you are already fans of the famous Liquid Gold, well this kit includes the supersize!! It’s award-winning and a global bestseller and is basically an overnight facial. Now, when I was recovering from surgery I was of course being very good diet wise and also had a good break from any wine, which as we know is very dehydrating. My skin felt amazing, I kept touching it as it felt so nice having a long detox.

This is how I would describe how my skin feels the morning after using Alpha-H Liquid Gold, seriously. When you really want an amazing result, don’t use anything else before bed other than Liquid Gold, so no serums or creams at all. The Today’s Special Value will be on air on Saturday 10th February.

What I’m wearing

We’ve got some great featured fashion and accessories shows coming your way at the moment, so with that in mind I had a little dip in to what was coming up in the Accessories Night In on the 9th. I do love a bit of a dress up after all! I’ve picked a few pieces that stood out to me. Firstly the pop of red from the Ashwood foldover leather cross-body bag. It’s elegant but the colour adds an exciting fashion element. Skirt by Betty & Co and shirt by MarlaWynne.

Next, sometimes only Links of London will do! The Pebble White Topaz necklace is pretty special, it’s smooth to touch with a beautiful sparkle and so wearable every day as your signature piece, definitely a potential Valentine’s or special birthday gift.

The Ophia watch I picked to wear is so pretty, the blossom on the dial is perfect for spring and the grey strap is particularly stylish. There’s a pair of boots though that are so fab I think I’m going to have to make an order, they are by Bronx and they are a white leather studded ankle boot. They are so cool and have the potential to transform a boring outfit into something really exciting. See the full Accessories Night In show on 9th Feb at 6pm-9pm, starting with myself and Ashling McCloy.

What I’m cooking

Chicken and Chorizo Risotto

Risotto is on the menu this week. I used to think it was a difficult dish to make but it’s become one of those meals I now do on a weekday when there’s not a lot in. I always have a pack of risotto rice in the cupboard as a back up. What I do is dice up two chicken breasts and fry in a pan with chopped garlic and a some chilli flakes, this time I also added chorizo. Followed by chopped courgette, a tin of chopped tomatoes and a cup of risotto rice. I then add a large jug of stock from a chicken stock cube, plus salt and pepper and leave it to simmer. You have to keep stirring or it can burn to the bottom and if it’s too stodgy then add more water, risotto should be fairly sloppy but it’s up to personal taste I think. If I want it to be extra creamy I will add a spoon of cream cheese or grated parmesan. Once the risotto rice is soft I add a big bunch of spinach for extra greens and stir it through.

That’s it from me this week, please do comment and let me know what you’ve been enjoying this week at QVC and as always keep up with me on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Love

Hi Katy. Really like the look of your risotto. I do find risotto a bit tricky to get right but I’m going to give your recipe a go as it seems quite straightforward and it has to be said the more straightforward it is the better for me! Must say you’re looking very chic with the Marla Wynn, Betty & Co, Ashwood ensemble. J x

Thanks Janet! Did you give the risotto a go? I know what you mean, it can be tricky to get right. I used to find it took ages to make the rice soft enough, but I just keep adding more hot water and simmer for a bit longer x
