Hi all! I hope you’re well.
I’ve had a busy old time of late. Still doing bits and bobs on the house… I’ll do a proper update on that in the future. I feel I need to get a little more done first. Decorating is still a little way off but not too far.
One of my favourite people ever is my best friend, Mandy. We’ve known each other for over 20years having clicked at a mother and toddler group. Our children are the same ages so we have that in common, of course, but we also share a sense of humour and have never had a crossed word between us. Just a whole lot of fun and being there for each other. I could write a whole blog on Mandy’s virtues but it’ll be far too long and I do have other news to tell you about.
Mandy has just turned 50. I struggled to know what to buy her that would be as special as she is, so I decided to wrap up 50 presents. One for each of her years.
Of course there were plenty of QVC buys as I’ve been stashing things away for months ahead of the big day. Lots of beauty products, Yankee Candles, Kipling accessories and Northern Nights bedding to name a few. She is overwhelmed by the quality of ‘Northern Lights’… I haven’t had the heart to correct her on that one yet, haha!
I also wrapped up some silly things like this toilet roll. Well, it’s something we all need, after all. Mandy’s sister, Gel, has also become a great friend and the two of them are very close sisters. The three of us went out in London for a lovely meal and one or two cocktails to celebrate her half century, but then the big do was a much larger group with family and friends. Her partner Gary is just a fab as she is, and he was great at organising everyone and making sure our girl had a brilliant night.
She’s beautiful inside and out and I hope she has, at least, another 50 birthdays ahead of her. I’d quite like to be there when she gets her telegram from the Royal Household, too!
Onto the subjects of Turtle Mats… absolutely nothing to do with turtles. Simply named after the founder of the company, James Turtle. They are brilliant at trapping and disguising dirt and moisture. I was on air with guest David Hunt (who works for the company) recently and thought they were genius, so had to get some. For me it had to be the cats and ‘wipe your paws’. Just so cute.
I’ve actually popped the cat one into my en suite shower room, as the floor can get very slippery. I couldn’t resist treating my great friend, Steve, to one for his French/English Mastiff, Winnie. His floors are always covered in giant paw prints. She’s a very big dog, even heavier than me!
You may have seen Steve and Winnie in previous blogs about my house renovation. He’s the man who’s been helping me to (re)build my home as he’s a property developer and all round talent when it comes to hands-on building work.
They say never work with children or animals… let me tell you, it was very tough trying to get these cheeky whatsits photographed with the mats so enjoy! You may spot the little, coaxing cat treats on the mat with Pix and Pops if you look closely!
Many of you know how crazy I am about make-up and all things beauty. Well, this week I took a trip to London’s bustling Carnaby Street, where Pixi by Petra have their flagship store, to meet up with Pixi’s on-air expert guest, Amanda Bell. Amanda is a make-up artist with over 20 years’ experience within the industry. As well as a make-up artist she has worked as a beauty writer, an award-winning product designer, and a successful freelance artist with a little black book of clients that span fashion, film and music.
Her work has appeared in titles including Vogue, Grazia, Stella, Tatler, Glamour and Elle – though there are many more! She has worked with some of the most influential and iconic beauty brands, and has been involved with Pixi by Petra since day one – over 17 years ago! She is also a mad cat lady, like me, which earns her some extra brownie points. Here’s a before-and-after of what you can achieve with their make-up – fab!
Creator of Pixi, Petra Strand, also has more than twenty years’ experience as a make-up artist and product developer. Pixi has a loyal worldwide following thanks to its pure, awakening and skin-loving products that create a naturally radiant ‘just-had-a-good-night’s-sleep’ look. Passionate about skincare, Petra creates innovative formulations that are infused with botanicals and cruelty-free, beneficial ingredients. Petra has real-world experience as a busy working mother of four, so Pixi is truly about multitasking, flaw-fixing, youth-enhancing products for women on-the-go with no time to spare. The entire range is suitable for vegetarians, and many products are vegan-friendly.
Beauty bloggers across the globe tend to agree on the jewel in the crown of the range: Pixi Glow Tonic. This product, offered as a duo on QVC, has three pages of reviews – all but one being five stars!
On Sunday in our first ever hour-long Pixi show we will be bringing you a special size of this which is not available anywhere else. In fact, everything in the show is brand new to QVC and I couldn’t be more excited about hosting the hour.
The store is just lovely and make-up artists are on hand to help with makeovers. It’s a wonderfully relaxed, calm environment. I have it on good authority that Ali Young, our resident beauty expert, has been known to pop in for some of that highly raved about Glow Tonic. I have yet to try it but am trying the make-up and it’s brilliant – all mineral pigments and good-for-you ingredients! There’s another product I love but don’t want to spill the beans too much before the show – as I want you to see them without them having sold out beforehand!
I hope you can join us for the premiere show on Sunday at 6pm. I’d love to know if you’ve tried the range and what you think of it.
Love Catherine x
