It’s QVC’s 24th birthday on Sunday and I’m celebrating by hosting a competition for you to win a fab watch from a new brand for us, Furla. More about that later.
The reason for selecting a watch as my birthday competition prize, is because my first ever purchase back in 1993 was the ‘Cat & Mouse’ watch (pictured above) which I came across while having a massive sort out the other day.
I think the original strap may have been black leather, but for some reason I replaced it with a bright green one. It was probably to match the ‘Jolly Green Giant’ jacket that I was talking about on my last blog. I wonder how many of you bought that watch too or one of the other early watch brands we used to sell? There was Kahuna and Paolo Franchi, and – of course – also Joan Rivers used to have some stunning watches.
Talking of people who are no longer with us in this world, some of you may have read that Fifteen to One host, William G Stewart, passed away last week. What you may not realise is that, prior to his on-screen performances, he was a very successful television producer, responsible for bringing The Price is Right to your screens back in 1984.
My best friend Denise posted this photo on Facebook (in red in the photograph). Denise worked for him for many years and stayed in contact with him. Happy memories of happy days… RIP Bill!
If you read my blog earlier in the week, you will have seen a photo of my apple haul this year. I mentioned I was going to make a Dorset apple cake and finally managed to find the time on Wednesday.
It was delicious with double cream on Wednesday, and finished off with custard last night. I think I may have put a recipe on my blog previously, if you were interested in making it. I also peeled and part cooked two bags full of apple to pop in the freezer and there are still at least a couple of dozen more to make use of – like I said, a bumper crop!
Back to the QVC birthday; Kathy and I will be kicking off Sunday morning at 9am with a special birthday Morning Show. Among other things, it will feature the fab Molton Brown Today’s Special Value. We have two options for you (His and Hers) and a brilliant price.
I had to laugh at our guest, Jemma Forte, enlisting the help of her children to show us around the collection on her Instagram, @jemmaforte.
It reminded me of doing exactly the same with my two, years ago – although they were considerably younger.
Do you remember a presenter we had for a few months in the very early days called Maria Rice Mundy? Well, Sophie chose to be her and my son pretended to be Paul Lavers. I must try and find the tape – they were hilarious! I have a full hour of Molton Brown with Jemma at 11am also, which I hope you will join us for.
So, finally, it’s competition time. Furla, an Italian brand, launched on our website last Monday. They are one of several new watch brands coming to QVC in the run up to Christmas… look out for Cluse, aimed at a young audience (or the young at heart) and Obaku, scandi styling and perfect for the men.
I have their beautiful Metropolis Watch to give away. It has a generous-sized dial and bracelet strap in white and rose gold-tone – and it’s worth £185.
To be in with a chance of winning, I thought I would give you a time based question:
How many hours are there in a week?
Usual terms and conditions apply, head to Competitions online to see our Standard QVC competition terms and conditions. Comment below with your answers by midnight Thursday 5th October, and I’ll announce the winner on here next week… good luck.
One final thing, we are welcoming a new face to our presenter team next week. Alex Kramer will help out with all the extra live hours we have lined up on our additional QVC channels – three hours live every weekday from 4pm, so do tune in and say hello.
Hope to see you for the birthday. Have a great weekend
