My work is never boring and I love it!

As I left home at 15 to go and make my mark in the world, I learned from an early age what hard work was. I also vowed to myself that I would never do a job unless I could be truly happy and satisfied doing it. I loved my job as a dental nurse and I remember even having fun as a school cleaner on a temporary contract with my cousin!

No matter what you do I say that if you have passion for it then it's worthwhile. I've always relayed that to my children too. I'd rather they were truly happy and satisfied sweeping the streets (unsung heroes, our street cleaners) than be miserable and stressed in a high-powered, highly paid job, and I really do mean that. Happiness is something no money can buy.

I've always been a 'finger in every pie' kinda girl and that's why QVC has turned out to be my absolute dream job as it never gets boring, there's always something new around the corner. For example, tomorrow (Thursday 25th June) I have Clogau Gold at 11am featuring a limited edition Today's Special Value made only for QVC, followed by Lulu Guinness OBE at midday. They are two of my all-time favourite shows and I honestly can't wait!

Crafting has become a love of mine since joining QVC as well so I'm thrilled to be on with Rosemary Merry (award-winning scrapbook expert) at 2pm on Friday 26th June. Yes, it's hard work in terms of putting in a lot of research and preparation but I've never had a job that gave me so much satisfaction and constant freshness.

Another aspect I never knew would become such a major part of my job is the relationships I now have with fellow QVC lovers. I get so many cards, letters and emails and have had the chance to get to know people I never would have come across in everyday life before QVC. We all have bad days and sometimes when I have one all it takes is some kind words in a letter or card in my pigeon-hole to totally brighten my day.

Needless to say tweets (we're on Twitter) and blog replies are, likewise, fantastic to receive so keep 'em coming!

hi catherine - I think your love of qvc really shines through,I think you are always very knowledgable,and really interested in the product and what others have to say.

I've recently gone back to work,working in a children's nursery, after 10 years,of being a stay at home mum - and its a very rewarding experince - like you say you become very involved in peoples' lives.

Hi Catherine I agree with you 100% there is nothing worth that going to work knowing that you are going to hate it. I always wanted to travel so I did study to become a travel agent, and worked in an agency in London for 15 years and loved it so much. Now that I moved to Mallorca(Spain), as my husband had a back accident and we had to move to a warm place, I went to school and learned Spainsh and now I just go around with all my English friends who need someone to transelate for them. I do it for no money at all, I just love doing it and helping people, and i sleep with a smile on my face every night.
You are great at your job in QVC by the way.

I am very lucky in that I am able to work from home and doing my dream job - writing. Every day I appreciate the good luck I have enjoyed in being able to do something I love every day of the week. I have previously worked in a supermarket, and at an estate agent where the hours were long and the work tiring, and in the latter case, the workers treated quite badly and I have worked in an office where employees were very well looked after but where there was a lot of backstabbing and gossiping and rumour-mongering. But then I guess what my Dad says is true - you can't know you've got a good job until you've had a bad one!

So nice to hear of other people who love what they do, too. I think passion is so good for the spirit. Even being passionate about the tiniest of things can be so satisfying. I remember working for a high street jewellers years ago and getting letters from customers about the service I gave, that absolutely made my day but being helpful was easy because I was enjoying what I did. Funny because they were simple things like getting someone some tissues if they came in with their glasses wet with rain or fetching a chair & a cup of tea for someone who had to wait for a repair to be done. It makes every bit of difference in my view.

If you live joyously the journey is so much more pleasurable.

Hi Catherine, just wanted to say I have finally found out what breed of cat my stray is. She could be the twin of your pixie, she came about 6 months ago, starving and unkempt, all skin and bone. She is a big girl now but she growls and hisses if you try to pick her up, I now sneak up behind her and put her next to me on the couch, she purrs like a traction engine but when its time she wants to go she standas at the door grumbling and as she goes out she hisses at us but we loven her and I hope one day she will let me love her.
