I love my new cats!

Pixie and PopsieCatherine Huntley Hi all. Anyone who knows my shows (especially crafting ones with all those cute cat cards) will know how cat mad I am, and how I’ve wanted one forever!

Well, now I’ve got two British short-haired silver tabbies called Pixie and Popsie, and both are gorgeous. Sometimes I call Popsie "Poopsie" because of the aroma that seems follow her!

PixiePixie enjoys lying on her back with legs akimbo in a purely unladylike but chilled manner and Popsie has developed a love of nature programmes and sits right in front of the telly when ‘Big Cats Diary’ is on!!Popsie watching Big Cats Diary

Thanks to all you viewers and fellow cat fanatics who’ve sent me cards of congratulations on getting my new feline friends – it was lovely to read through them all!

Hi Catherine, your new cats are just soooooooooo gorgeous. I have a black and white cat who is also the love of my life. I am also very heavily into crafting and am constantly broke because of that Dawn Bibby!!! However, she saved my life when I had to retire early at 46 due to spinal problems. I can at least craft when I can which keeps me sane. I have 2 kids ages 13 and 8 which is also a handful – teenagers eh, just wish I could have a parents manual to get me through these turbulent years (I know that they have just begun and I have a long way to go before getting out the other end!!)
Anyway just love you on QVC, your crafting has come on in leaps and bounds since you started and you are such a brilliant presenter too.

Hi Shirley, thanks for your comments. Nice to hear from a fellow cat & craft lover. I really am totally smitten with them! In fact I was really naughty today and bought them some special extra posh nosh as a treat! I’m so pleased that crafting has helped you through your enforced early retirement. I can’t begin to imagine how challenging it’s been for you, especially with young children to care for, too. Craft allows you to escape everything for a while, don’t you think? You can immerse yourself so deeply that you suddenly realise several hours have passed! I’m sending you and yours the warmest of wishes and the purriest of meows from the kitties and hope you enjoy many many more hours of crafting fun.
    Love Catherine x

I have had two silver tabbies for the last 11 years. They are Gus (Gustav Mahler cat) and Jack (Giacomono Puccini cat), except he gets called Jixy. Silver tabbies are really lovely – they are very pretty and very affectionate and you are in for a lot of fun. Mine are mainly indoor cats, so they hunt things like paint brushes. It took me quite a time to realise they went for the squirrel ones! They also like knitting. Odd balls of wool are likely to find themselves on the floor and “knitted with” . As kittens they were very boisterous. I recall one memorable occasion when I had returned from a carol service at the public school where I used to teach. I was sitting in front of my computer and heard a very loud crash behind me. The cats had managed to pull down the entire curtain track!! One of their more beguiling habits is to “lie on their backs with their paws in the air” . Of course, they must be very relaxed and trusting to do this. I don’t do your sort of crafting- I paint, mainly landscapes in Corsica, but also the silver tabbies.

Hi Jean, lovely to hear about your wonderfully named kitties. Isn’t it funny how they can get away with tearing down curtain tracks and we would forgive them anything and be amused by it? I’d love to see a piccie of your cats, especially in your paintings. Wouldn’t it be great to have a cat gallery on here? Hmmm, perhaps I should have a word with the powers that be…I’m really enjoying this fast forming kitty community! I’ve had some more welcomes through my website email, too. It’s so nice to hear from so many other cat lovers. Love to your sweet Gus and Jack and thank you for writing in. Love Catherine x

When people ask me at work “are you a cat or dog person?” I always laugh and say… “with a name like Kitty… which do you think?”.
Anyway, I am very glad that you are enjoying your 2 new feline friends, don’t worry too much about the unladylike posture, my black moggy does the exact same thing! I just had to tell you about a cat toy/treat that my mum treated our cat, Zosh (given to her before she came to live with us) to, it’s called Kookamunja (not too sure of the spelling) it is a catnip spray and it is truly hysterical to watch! Most Pet shops sell it, try it, you will cry so hard with laughing!!
    Much Love
    Kitty xx

Hi Kitty (fabulous name for a feline fanatic, I agree)
Thanks for writing. I went out today on the hunt for kookamunga on your recommendation – they love it! I don’t have the spray but they had bubbles instead and are now very playful. Big purrs and mew mews to you & yours from me & mine. Love Catherine x

    Hi Andrea,
May I first compliment you on your fab taste in names. What’s quite funny is that we also have ‘Gucci’ in common as a pet name. When I was a child I had a guinea pig called Gucci who climbed into the sofa. We had to turn it on its side and cut open the underside fabric to get her out! My mum wasn’t thrilled. Oops!I am sorry about you losing your Sam but am really happy to hear what a lovely and lengthy time you enjoyed together. My love to you and all of your gorgeous sweeties. Love Catherine x

Oh Catherine, your cats a purrfectly gorgeous. I myself am a cat fanatic, having done cat rescue work and fostering for Cats Protection in the past. It was a fantastic opportunity and as a result, we obtained 4 female cats & kittens through it, adding to our original 2, of whom were rescue kittens too. Now sadly, through illnesses, we are left with 3. And, this will make you laugh, the only male in the household is, and always was, my husband.
I wish you many years of purrfect happiness with Pixie & Popsie xxx

Hi Maureen. I feel the same as you. I just can never live without cats. I had to for a few years due to renting and trying to keep the landlord happy but, luckily, I have a wonderful cat loving landlord who has kindly allowed us to bend the rules. Lots of love to you, Casey & Toby the Tabby! Love Catherine x

Hi Leah, great hearing from you. I think it’s great you found time to give to the Cats Protection League. I’d love to do that myself but I’d be like you and keep bringing them home! I am making a small amount of cards for a lady who is going to sell them to raise funds for the branch she works with then I think I shall donate my surplus to my local branch. I’ll have to resist going in and looking at the gorgeous darling cats or I’ll come home with all the ones nobody else felt they could take!! So sad you have had to say goodbye to 3 of your girls but the joy they bring when they’re with us makes the pain of goodbyes worth every tear. They’re all lucky to have had you. Love to all the girls and of course the man o’ the house!! Catherine x

I love your cats. They are adorable. I have a tabby and white called Timmy, he is 6 years old. I couldn’t be without him. He jumps on me when I am in bed in the mornings. He loves to lay on my lap.
Cats are in my opinion are the best pets to have. They are so easy to look after and are so intelligent. He knows what I say to him. If I tell him to lay down, he does and if I ask him if he wants his food he runs to the place where I keep it.
I love watching you on QVC Catherine. Keep up the good work! QVC is the best!!

    Hi Penny,
Thanks for the message. Your Twinkle sounds like she was gorgeous and that she gave you lots of lovely memories to keep with you. My girls came from a lady who had originally got them to be company for her male Bristish Shorthair cat but he didn’t take well to them and became quite aggressive with them so I was delighted to be able to give them a home. I am so happy to have them, I feel we were just meant to be together! Originally I was planning to adopt from the Cats Protection League so that may be a good option for you or if you’re after a British Shorthair in particular I’m sure there are bredders online if you do a search.
Thanks also for your kind comments on my presenting. Sometimes I get a bit self conscious and fluff my words but that’s getting less the more time goes by. My fashion is quite ‘ecclectic’ as I don’t only like one particular style. I’m greedy and like to try them all so it’s nice to have your vote of confidence!
Please send me a pic when/if you get your cat. I will be so happy for you!
    Love Catherine x

Mandy, great to hear from you. Really sad to hear about your Daisy and so recent that you lost her. My heart goes out to you. One blessing is that she had you, who obviously loves her dearly, to give her love and care.
You’re good at chosing names. It made me laugh hearing about how nervy Bracken is. I once saw a programme where a dog scared of EVERYTHING and it was a great dane or some other giant dog. I know I shouldn’t have but I found it hilariously ironic. They al have their own funny personalities, don’t they? Just lovely.
Love to you and yours, Catherine x

    Hi Val (and Timmy!)
You are lucky Timmy likes to lounge on your lap. I am trying to entice my two but as I got them when they were 3 months old they were already a little bit set in their ways. I don’t think they had been handled a lot before. I put little kitty treats on my tummy when on the sofa to get them to come over! Slowly but surely they’re getting there. They always seem excited to see me in the mornings and love chin tickles then. They also enjoy watching my bath run and will sit either in the sink or around my bath when I’m in it! Once Pixie even fell in, hee hee. Needless to say my life is better having them in it.
Thanks for writing, love Catherine x

Hi Donna! Thanks for your kind words. I’m loving being proud mummy to my new girlies, no doubt I won’t be stopping at just two. Only a matter of time before I make another announcement! I find them irresistable.
My hair is finally all my own colour. I had resisted going dark for years and years as I loved my blonde hair and now I’ve finally given in and like my own colour what happens? Greys!! Sometimes when I’m on the telly I’ll just see a little glint of silver so I pluck it out when I can. Ah well, I’m actually not really bothered as I enjoy each phase of life as it comes..there’s far worse to worry about than these little things. Overall I’m very blessed, even if I am greying I’m still smiling.
Lovely to hear from you again, give my love to your lovely man, too. Love Catherine x

Hi Catherine, love your cats, they’re beautiful! I’ve got a Silver Tabby of the darker variety (classic black) called Earsy, or Sargenta Silver Okra. She’s 11 this year, and she’s gorgeous. I also have 8 other cats, all Cats Protection moggies.
It was lovely to see Dinky on TV this morning, I’m sure he’ll take his stardom in his stride, only expecting the odd extra treat! He is a very beautiful boy.

    Hi Catherine,
Just like yourself I’m a HUGE cat fan and also have 3 British Shorthairs. They are the most amazing cats.
In 2004 we were adopted by siblings Seth (A smoke) and Isis (silver spotted). Seth loves playing football and can often be seen batting screwed up bits of paper around the house. Isis has a knack of waking me up in the night by nudging my hand with her paw because she wants stroking!!
In 2006 we decided to add to the family but had such a choice for the third cat. However we knew we had to have the cream boy for two reasons – His grandaddy is Seth and Isis’ daddy and he shares the same birthday as his step aunt/uncle – the 26th May!! We called him Hotei after the Japanese God of Good luck and we couldn’t be happier 🙂
P.S – Their pedigree names are as follows:
Seth = Bumpkin Smoke Oberon (named after Shakespearean themed daddy, Othello)
Isis = Bumpkin Silver-Chardonnay (named after drinky inspired mummy, Sherry)
Hotei = Bumpkin Cream Samurai (names after his daddy Brave Warrior) 😀
