Calling all technophobes!

I have some very good news for you. I am hosting a brand new show called 'Technology and you with Catherine Huntley' starting this Sunday at 11am with a show each weekend throughout June. The first three shows are on a Sunday – that is 2nd, 9th and 16th of June. Then there are two more shows on the 22nd and 29th of June, also at 11am.

Ok, so you may be wondering why a technophobe would consider a new techie show good news…well, this tech show is specifically made for you (and me)! Although we will have amazing brands, products and offers that'll be the envy of any high tech gadget geek we will be helping you to understand how to make the most of your tech purchases whether you've bought them from us or elsewhere.

If you're still thinking "I'm just not into technology" then I'd say you might want to mull it over and think again! Do you have a mobile phone? A smart phone? An ipad? Another tablet? An e reader? A satnav? A digital camera? TV? Of course the answer will be yes to many of these if not all. So, we are all using technology but the show is all about helping you to make life easier, more fun and genuinely enjoyable through the use of great technology.

Why me? Well, I think we definitely cater to our die hard tech fans with brands such as Samsung, Apple, Bose, Hewlett Packard, Fuji and so on. We bring expert guests who have years of tech experience and are able to guide our techie devotees through all the high specs and capabilities of each product at a very advanced level. That's great, of course, however we are aware that sometimes we don't necessarily need the advanced levels. We just want to know how to add apps, how to set up a printer, why something like the 'surf easy plug in privacy device' would be useful for us. So, as I'm not an expert but love my technology for day to day convenience I hope to be asking all the questions you'd like the answers to!

I have been trialling many of the products so that I can experience them from your point of view, ie someone who isn't a techie expert guest on qvc. It's been great, actually! One of the most affordable, fun, giftable and clever items featuring is the Today's Special Value coming up this Sunday. It's priced below £25 for a start which is great news! It's a portable cylindrical charger that's smaller than a packet of polo mints and it'll charge different types of devices. I've been using it to charge my iPhone when I'm out and about. It comes with different types of attachments and it's all in a handy little pouch that takes up hardly any space in the handbag. I've shown it to a few of my friends and they are all now wanting to buy one!

It would be great to hear from you so please feel free to leave comments below. Any questions are welcome and Will Gowing will be on hand on Sunday to field your questions too.

Looking forward to your company!

Love Catherine x

    Dear Catherine
I’m coming to the conclusion that technology is passing me by. I don’t Tweet or Facebook (can’t see the point, and I don’t like their lack-of-privacy policies), I don’t own a smartphone (I rarely switch my old Motorola mobile on, except in emergencies) or tablet. The only thing I’ve been considering is an e-reader – but then I like the feel of a book, including turning the pages.
I think we’ve been encouraged by these tech conglomerates to see wants as needs, and I don’t think that’s healthy. Also, I think we’re losing the research skills we had by having information at the touch of a button. I would much rather rely on reading and memorising a route than relying on a machine.
Am I a complete Luddite, or is there something I’m missing? Of course, I’ll be watching as you’re on it, but I remain sceptical about technology.
    All the best,
    Chris xx

    Hi Chris,
Thanks for your message. I understand some of what you say and I think you’re right that we should still utilise skills such as thoroughly researching. I think it’s how you use technology that makes it work for you. It could be that you enjoy listening to great music. I do and wouldn’t be without my Bose sound system now. What’s great is the new Technology & You show isn’t only about the internet. We have great TV’s, ways to save your old photos so they don’t degrade and lots of other great bits of kit that really enhance and help us.
It’s all about tailoring technology to suit your own needs. Hopefully we’re helping people to do that and to understand not only what they do want to purchase but also what they don’t want or need to suit their lifestyle.
Really lovely to hear from you. Please keep in touch.
    Love Catherine xx

New to iPad. Disappointed I can’t view qvc demo’s on my iPad. I could on my Samsung tablet. Wish this info had been on your program.

    Hi Marian,
Thanks for your message. It’s worth calling QVC again as we have a TMTI (talk me through it) service that will help you. I am told there are ways around this issue (which is to do with flash player rather than the devices capability). I think there may be an app you can get.
I watch qvc on my ipad by opening the qvc app and watching through that. This is the easiest way. I hope that helps.
    Love Catherine x
