Brrrrrrr. I’m writing this snuggled up in Emu slippers and PJs – for the first time in months, it’s actually chilly. I actually love this time of year though, so no complaints here – let’s embrace the new season and use it as an excuse to treat ourselves to some cuddly new jumpers and gorgeous boots!
One great thing about October is that it brings the annual Cheltenham Literature Festival. Cheltenham is a fabulous place to live with so many festivals throughout the year, from horse racing to music and science, but the LitFest is my favourite. It was particularly inspiring for me this time as I’ll be joining the ranks of published authors myself next year (see my previous blog if you missed the news of my book deal!). I managed to get to three events this year – an inspirational talk by Henry Winkler (The Fonz from Happy Days!) who is now a children’s author and who told us he is so severely dyslexic he couldn’t even read until he was 30; an entertaining session with Paul Merton; and (the highlight for me) an audience with Brian, Jennifer and Helen from Radio 4’s The Archers! I’m a massive fan so it was absolutely fascinating to have afternoon tea while getting lots of insider gossip from the world’s longest-running radio drama.
I’ve also had two of my sisters visiting since my last blog – they both live in Dublin so we don’t see each other often enough, but we certainly make up for it when we get together!
Non-stop laughter, far too much wine and endless chatting, plus a smattering of shopping and dining out – a perfect weekend!
Work has been fun too. If you’ve been keeping up with my dressing room wars with Chloe Everton, you may remember the giant blow-up dinosaur she found in her room recently, courtesy of me! He’s been hanging out in the presenter lounge ever since, but it was finally decided that he’d outstayed his welcome (it was getting a little difficult to get to the ironing board without tripping over his tail). So we decided it was time to say bye bye, not realising how difficult it would be to deflate a six-foot inflatable T-Rex. In the end it took three of us (me, Chloe and Claire Sutton), sitting on him until he was finally flattened. Poor old dinosaur.
There’s always so much fun and laughter in this job…sometimes off-air, sometimes on! I loved this moment (see video below) when the normally very professional Glen Campbell lost his composure during a fashion hour after he misheard me and thought I said a faux fur coat felt like a chicken…take a look!
Finally, a quick sneak peek for you at something coming up soon on QVC – lovers of pearl jewellery, take note! On Sunday 26th October from 8pm to 10pm I’ll be presenting a special Honora Pearls show. We have some stunning pieces, great prices and the lovely Ralph Rossini of course. Here’s a photo of some of the goodies you’ll see – and you might spot me wearing these and other pieces from the range on air in the run up to the show.
That’s it for now! Do get in touch, either by leaving a comment below this blog or on Twitter (I’m @jackiekabler). I always love to hear from you.
Love Jackie x
