Boat party, the pogs meet Baloo and vote for your fave recipe

The Olympic rings on Tower BridgeThis week…
- It's time to vote for your favourite presenter bake-off!
- Fun on the Thames for a special party
- And little puppy meets the pogs!

Ship ahoy! Catherine's floating 40th!
What a lovely evening it was last Wednesday for a riverboat birthday do! Catherine's 40th was a very special occasion indeed, featuring many familiar faces.

Both presenters and guests, as well as lots of behind-the-scenes crew, plus her family and friends, gathered on Westminster Pier, as well as Chrissie (Catherine's daughter), whose 18th it was too – so the boat trip was half teenagers and half banging music! Lol.

QVC presenters and guests on the Thames cruiseOther guests included Hannah Grey, Lee Hohbein, Gill Gauntlett and Mat Trim from our hi-tech department and many others, and a good time was had by all! I never knew Hannah could 'ceroc' so well! Are you any good at dancing? I'd love to learn ceroc! I would have loved to have learned Lindy Hopping, but since it involves quite a bit of being chucked about by the guy, I'd have to lose three stone or else find a very strong guy! Lol.

If you have any tips about the best type of dancing to learn for a beginner, do leave me a comment below! Anyway it was a fun night and made all the better by seeing London from the river – including Tower Bridge with the Olympic rings still hanging below. Happy 40th to Catherine! If you'd like to wish her a happy birthday, do go onto her blog and leave her a comment!

The pogs meet puppy Baloo
The pogs with BalooMy lovely daughter Lolly visited this week, along with her boyfriend Nick and little Baloo! Her puppy (my 'grandpog' as some people have called her! Hehe!) had good fun playing with my four Labradors – it was a joy to watch.

This is just one clip from her many minutes of gambolling around the garden with Gracie and Daisy. Patch wasn't really bothered, and Holly just took one sniff and toddled off indoors. Typical! But she's such an adorable little pup it didn't take long for my two choccie labs to take to her. And those little ears are soooo soft! Bless her.

Hope they come back again soon! Lauren lives in Bath, but at least it's do-able in a day!

Snippets
- A funny on air this week – when Ouida from Ronni Nicole described a part of a skirt as a 'flange'. I'm SURE I don't know why I was smirking! But a couple of you sent me Facebook messages after about it – glad it wasn't only me seeing the funny side! Did you? I blame the 'Inbetweeners' myself! Hehe! By the way – a very funny blooper from Ouida in the same show – if I can get it I will post in on next week's blog!

- Also had a right laugh with Marie Francoise in the Kipling show too – did you see any of it? Or Dale with Sooty, Sweep and Sue? Or another blooper – Gill Gauntlett told me she'd tripped a little down the stairs as she was selling the mesh curtains with a tray in her hands! I'll try to find that one too – did you see it?

And did you see any other funnies on air? Let me know each week your favourite funny QVC moments, 'cos, hot gossip – top secret news – I'm going to be doing a regular Saturday night gifts show and maybe they'll let me show a blooper on air each week! I'll be alternating with Dale presenting it in the run up till Christmas. What else do you think we should have on the show? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

- Marlene moment – as promised, here's the recipe for the coconut cookies – macrobiotic of course! This one isn't in the book by my healthy eating guru Marlene Watson-Tara, but lots of other inspirational low GI ones are. Next week I'll post the muffins recipe! (see bake-off below!)

Coconut Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups of rolled oats or barley flour
  • 1 1/2 cups of spelt flour
  • 1/2 cup of dried coconut
  • 2 tsp of baking powder
  • 2/3 cup of coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup of sunflower oil
  • 1 cup of rice syrup

Method:
1. Preheat the oven 160C.
2. Put the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix well.
3. Blend the wet ingredients together and then fold in the dry ingredients. Leave to sit for about 15 minutes.
4. Place heaped teaspoonfuls of the mixture on to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. For larger cookies, use a heaped tablespoon of the mixture. Leave a few inches space between each to allow the biscuits to spread during baking.
5. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown and crisp around the edges.

Funny puppy pic on Facebook- Facebook funny – is this contentment personified or what?! This pic from Michelle Roberts this week on Facebook – I replied, 'I had a dog who did that once… in fact, I did that once!' Have you had a pet who fell asleep in unusual positions? Let me know by leaving a comment below!

Debbie's macrobiotic muffinsThen tune in to our new show, 'The Baking Boutique', at 5pm on Sunday 26th August to see the result. It was great fun in the QVC kitchen, and may the best presenter win! For more info on my entry, don't forget to read my recent blog post.

QVC - well there's lots to look forward to in the next week or so – including a super weekend of beauty with Gatineau's next Today's Special Value on Sunday (including the new AOX serum!) plus the return of Lesley Ebbett's sell out show 'With Sleeves' on Sunday at 8pm with me.

And Ken Paves is back with his wonderful hair designs – been using my 'Style a Do' a lot in the recent hot weather! Plus watch out for Antthony! He's back – hooray! We love his designs! In selected shows on Sunday and Monday! Join me at 11pm both nights.

And finally, Monday's also when you'll finally see the Honora Pearls bracelet we've all been wearing, with the delectable Ralph.

Best wishes,

    Hi Debs,
Don’t know where to start to reply! You fit in sooo much! Fab blog. Lovely lovely birthday of Catherine’s. I think I wished her a happy birhtday and also said I love her hair! I am so glad you all had such a ball at the big do!! Where are the pics of Catherine though?! Did Pip, Kathy, Jilly, Julia etc not go? I also loved the fact it was combined with daughter’s 18th! We may do that next year too. Glad to hear you had a weekend with Lauren and Nick too. Not as often as you’d like but at least they have a life with each other and you have super fun in your life! Lovely recipe by the way too. Interesting as coconut is full of saturated fat..but this must be ok I’m guessing?
So glad there’s a range with sleeves now too btw! I don’t know why there’s always soo many sleeveless dresses when we have such rubbish weather. And in the recession I know I have to save my pennies for work dresses not party dresses really!
    Enjoy wknd,
    Susan x

Interviews with celebs who buy from QVC.
    A look behind the scenes.

Hi Debbie, you looked really at home in the QVC kitchen, the cake tin looked fab that you were using must look out for that.
Also loved the clip of your dogs, used to have a golden labrador myself and miss him.
I agree with the other lady who commented on dressess with sleeves, also I do wish we could have the lengths read out a bit quicker and preferably on the screen as I have a hearing problem and often miss out. take care Pat.

    Hi Debs,
Writing this while watching you with Andrew; got my Today’s Special Value at midnight launch.
Have missed TiFFTs the last few months due to ill health but have caught up this month by trying angel card reading, indian head massage, reflexology and reiki.

    Hi Debbie, another fab blog!
I was lucky enough to go to the QVC fashion show last Wednesday morning with my friend Becky who’s been having a bit of a rubbish time recently, and we both had a lovely chat with your dear friend Goody. I told her how much I appreciated your kind reply to my comment on your birthday blog, and also that I think it’s lovely that you reply to everyone which must take ages! I’m having an op to repair my fractured pelvis on Wednesday (fractured back in March!) which will keep me off the streets and on crutches for 3 months! Once that’s all over I would love to do something like that macrobiotic training day I think you were considering: I’m in West Sussex so not that far away.
When I’m home from hospital I expect I’ll be watching QVC most days so I’ll keep an eye out for bloopers!
    Take care

    Hi Debbie
Really enjoy your blog! You are one busy lady. Loved Ken Paves’s latest visit… would love the 21″ piece with the headband as a wig with a fringe. Watched you presenting a show with him and you said you wear the original fringe piece with it but I have next to no hair and the clips will not grip. Just a thought!

    Hi Debbie
At age 43 I took up tap dancing, thoroughly recommend it, all ages amd sizes in the class and it’s very therapeutic, stamping your foot and making a noise! Only equipment you’ll need is a pair of tap shoes, and you can usually pick up a pair on ebay. I went on my own but have made new friends, we’ll never get a call for the West End but we can have fun trying!
    Best wishes

    Nigel –
Joke comp – good idea! And maybe featured comments from blogs etc?
Food stuff – to some extent, good idea! (we’re not allowed to say anything much about medical stuff sadly!)
Intvws – yes – we wish!
And maybe a little behind the scenes youtube clip each week would be allowed? Perhaps Dale and I can write a separate Gift Show blog each week to place the links on etc! Wonder if they’d let us!
#Great comments as usual hon! ta!

Yes the tin was fab! THanks for saying I looked at home in the kitchen! Only since my macrobiotic cookery course in April tho! A lot to thank Marlene for eh! lol
Sorry if I dont read the sizes fast enough Pat – it’s often down to the Director cutting to the model first so that we can read them. Hope I get them out soon enough for you most of the time! We’re starting to get more on-screen graphics too, so I hope that helps too! Thanks for commenting hon!

And yes, will let everyone know when Marlene and I set the dates for some Surrey macrobiotic training – it soooooo makes a difference to your health! Am going to start a 21 day intensive soon, to cleanse and purge and lose a bit more weight! Still about a stone and a bit too much!

yes – isn’t every week packed tho! Hehe! What you don’t see, however, is the days when I sit staring into space for three hours at a time! lol!

And yes, my little ‘grandpog’, daughter Lauren’s little puppy dog, is just scrumptious! Can’t wait to see her again!
