I can't believe I was off for the whole of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show week at QVC. I love gardening and the recent glorious weather has tempted me into my own garden for a bit of a tidy up. Thanks to the rain, sunshine and a liberal helping of Spray-n-Grow, my garden is positively rampant!
I was lucky enough to have our own Richard Jackson to advise me when we wanted to turn what was a Tarmac car parking area into the oasis it now is.
I had an idea of what I would like in there, and Richard walked round with me, telling me what would and wouldn't work in terms of size and available sun or shade. The main focus was to create a scented garden, so it's full of roses, honeysuckle, jasmine, lavender, osmanthus, orange blossom and my favourites, pink peonies, which are just about to burst into flower.
One of the best bits of the garden is the wisteria arch. It's planted with a fragrant variety with smaller racemes of flowers than normal, and over the last six years I've trained it over the metal arch. This summer it's absolutely glorious, and such a pleasure to walk under and inhale deeply. The Desperate Housewives may live on Wisteria Lane, but I'm more than happy with my own wisteria arch!
I wonder if Richard Jackson has inspired your garden?
Must go now, I have hanging baskets to plant up!
