Big foot spotted in Bracknell

I don’t know why I’m joking about it, because it’s really not funny! This is a photo of my foot after I visited the Bracknell Urgent Care Centre on Wednesday, where I have to say all the NHS staff were really efficient and friendly.

Why was I there?

Well, on Tuesday I was trying to vacuum under a solid oak coffee table but it was stuck in the pile of the carpet. I tugged it, and it smashed straight into my big toe…Ouch! I knew I was in trouble immediately.

It was bleeding and the swelling was almost instant. I iced it, put arnica on it, elevated it at bedtime but by Wednesday morning my toe was still really painful, and I feared I had broken it.

My doctor suggested the Urgent Care Centre, which I have to say looked more like a hotel than an NHS hospital.

They X-rayed it for me and, fortunately, it wasn’t broken, but I was told not to walk on it, no driving, to keep it iced and elevated for three days, and that salt soaks would help the wound around the nail bed heal. Apparently I will lose the nail but it could have been worse!

I haven’t been able to work, but I am hoping that it will only be these three days and that I will be back after my normal five day break for next Thursday’s shows.

I am so disappointed to be missing the launch of Betty & Co on Fashion on Friday tonight and also the final Spotlight on Jewellery of this series, but I hope you will enjoy watching them nonetheless.

I’ve already ordered the Betty & Co chiffon top  and printed top but there are some other lovely pieces in the show including some great jeans. I have a feeling it will be a really busy show.

I hope you all enjoyed the Butler & Wilson Anniversary earlier in the week? It was also Simon’s birthday on Tuesday and I couldn’t resist this card for him – elegantly dressed woman drinking champagne and wearing sparkly jewellery!

Perfect I thought. I also got him a little black cat that you put on a high shelf and it looks down on you – he seemed to like it.

Surey Downs cover

So, if you live in Surrey you may have had a copy of the Surrey Downs magazine drop onto your doormat with a picture of yours truly on the cover.

The article is paying homage to the 30th anniversary of QVC in America which they will be celebrating in November (our 23rd anniversary in the UK is 1st October) but also talks about my books.

Speaking of which, the Kindle versions are on a special 99p offer for the whole of the Bank Holiday weekend – if you have a look on the site that sounds like a South American river… you know the one I mean!

It was also great to receive this photo from QVC viewer Sarah who has just got back from her holiday in Cuba – funnily enough, a small segment of ‘It’s Never To Late To Say…’ is set in Cuba, so how appropriate (coals to Newcastle and all that!).

Reading on the beachSarah really enjoyed the trilogy and, if you’ve been thinking about it, this is the perfect weekend as you can get all three books for under £3.

Right, I need to go and put some more ice on my foot – I would show you a picture of it but it would definitely put you off your dinner!

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend whatever you are up to and see you next week (hopefully),

Much love,
Julia xx

P.S. – I’m doing a 23-piece beauty giveaway next week on here to celebrate my 23rd anniversary of starting with QVC – you won’t want to miss it xx

Hi Julia, ooh that sounds painful! I did a similar thing a few years ago and considering the toe is a small part of the body boy is it painful when damaged ! I didnt treat myself to the Butler and Wilson items lovely though they were, but instead I bought a Laura Geller balance and glow, looking forward to receiving it, need all the help I can get! I am loving the second book of your trilogy, only trouble is I cant wait to get to the end to see how things work out! Hope your toe recovers soon, linda x

I hope you are soon more mobile, enjoy the chance to put your foot up & chill out for awhile!! Cuddle your cat & watch all the junk tv your mind can stand!!! Good luck!! Hugs Sue xx

oh so sorry to read about the painful accident with your foot! Hoping you’ll make a quick recovery! But hey you can get waited on hand (and foot!! sorry not intentional!) Had similar mishap but not as serious, luckily, was cleaning and a big, fat diary fell on the middle part of my foot! Also was unplugging a plug and my thumb nail totally bent backwards. Couldn’t believe it didn’t break and was flexible! ha. Still painful tho. Was wearing Nails Inc Hyde Park corner gel coat, so maybe it helped. This was the day after and hoping bad luck doesn’t come in three’s!

      Hi Mila
Hope you haven’t had a third ‘incident’!
The nurse at the hospital remarked he couldn’t really see what was going on with my nail because of my nail varnish – he still said it will come off though! Something to look forward to… Not!

    Hi Julia,
So sorry to hear about your poorly toe. It sounds really painful. I know it’s such a bind being laid up like that. I suffered from planta fasciitus for years. It’s so miserable not being able to walk. Hope it will soon be on the mend.
Had another set back this week with the house. After all this time trying to get the roof fixed I called in a specialist firm to try and see what’s going on! Well to cut to the chase I have damp in the wall now and need to get a damp course put in along my passage wall. They quoted me a ridiculous price so as soon as the bank holiday is over I will be ringing around for a second opinion and quotes! I keep telling myself it could be worse. Those poor people in Italy where the earth quake happened. My heart goes out to them. Here’s to a better start to the next week!?
Wishing you a speedy recovery .
    Take care, Tina S xx

      Hi Tina
I can’t believe your house is still causing you such issues – you must feel like it is never-ending! But, as you say, our problems are minor compared to those poor souls in the Italian earthquake. I hope your ring round has got you a better quote.
My toe is still sore but I will be back at work tomorrow in my flip flops

    Hi Julia
Sorry to hear about your toe! l bashed mine into the wheel of the bed 5 yrs ago. It was agony! I did lose the nail & it grew back ‘ingrowing’ so trip to foot clinic necessary. I now go to a podiatrist to get my toenails cut & she manages the big toe carefully, so I would recommend that route to you. Maybe take the good of a couple of days off….
Loved you & Simon on the BW show. Had to treat myself of course.
Fab pic of you on the mag cover! Lookin forward to your 23rd anniversary piece on next week’s blog.
Take care & hope the toe settles soon.

    Hi Julia

How are you feeling following your awful accident with the oak coffee table, hope the soreness has lessened and not so painful…Arnica is a wonderful thing for the bruising and elevation for the swelling…sorry, know I keep on about it, but can’t rave enough.

Did you manage to have a decent Bank Holiday with your injury, at least the weather was gorgeous for a change, plenty of alfresco dining to be had.

We took Bailey for a day out in Wales at one of the Lakes, although when we arrived Chris had left his lead in the garage and still being a puppy we daren’t let him loose, too many sniffs and distractions. So as all was not lost, I suggested Chris take his belt off his jeans and loop it through Bailey’s collar, so that he could at least stretch his legs, which worked a treat…Bailey in one hand and the other holding his jeans up, so all was not lost.

Are you back on air today, hoping it won’t be too painful for you…take care of that poorly toe. Not forgetting ‘Good Luck’ with your short story too!!

    Love Annette x

P.S. Did you manage to get the email teaser??

    • Julia Roberts September 3, 2016 at 2:01 pm -  Reply

      Hi Annette
Good to hear from you on here. My foot/toe is improving every day – sooooo much better than this time last week. I have been using Arnica gel which I’m convinced has helped with the bruising. I guess I’m lucky the weather has been dry as can’t put anything but flip flops on at the moment, although the hot weather wasn’t ideal as it really made my toe throb.
Loved the Bailey story – very inventive using Chris’s belt and the image of him holding up his trousers with one hand while holding Bailey with the other made me smile.
I’m not sure how popular the short story will be – it’s very different from getting totally absorbed in an 80,000 word book, but if you don’t try new things you never know!
