A happy Christmas to everyone from Santa Debbie – here’s my festive blog for you!
Harrods Afternoon Tea and Guess what’s in the Bookshop!
Had a lovely afternoon tea with 14 fellow Facebook friends on Monday this week – so lovely to see old pals and meet new ones – we were quite well behaved in the circumstances! I’d never been there to tea before and to be honest, it’s quite dear for what it is, but I’m glad to have gone once. The group mainly came from our Bodyblade QVC facebookers, with a couple of extras. I enjoyed playing mother and it was lovely to just chat and banter. I’ll see many of the ladies at the Beauty Bash of course – I’m going to be there on the Tuesday and the Wednesday (afternoons and possibly the mornings too. Actually if you’d like to win tickets to go too, enter here on Q Gossip – the tickets are for the Wednesday afternoon – closes Monday 28th.) Anyway Harrods was fun – here’s a little look around –

Big Moment – nearly sold out in their Bookshop!
How chuffed I was that my publisher made sure there were enough books in the bookshop on the second floor – when we left there were only a couple left on the shelves! Keisha the manageress there was delighted, she told me, and got me to sign them too – another TiFFT – my first with the proper sticker on them! Cooo!
Makes it feel more like I’m a proper author every day! More on my RiWiSi blog this week. Thank you so much to Choc Lit boss Lyn. For those who don’t know, you can find my book on order in most bookshops now. More on how to get it here. (And AudioBook of the Week is The Martian – which gave rise to the recent film.)
One of the girls in the video above told me about how she’s loved freeing herself up from food prison using my Freedom Eating principles as listed in the Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 book – and it made me feel very proud. I too recall the days when every ounce of food put through my lips was a cause of regret or guilt or a feeling of missing out. Nowadays it’s very different – acting like a slim person meant I left much of the sweet stuff on the tea plates in Harrods – just didn’t feel like it. That’s the point. You do what your body feels like. Find out more here. Sarah is giving me her story for my new version coming out in end January – Till the Fat Lady Slims 3.0 – Tips and Tales to Inspire. Sue Stewart was here too – this is her recent comment on our Facebook group of the same name. It was lovely to meet them both. True friends now, many of these ladies. Thank you Facebook.

Freedom Wrapping… of course there’s an element of the principles which translates to day to day life – including letting things go and not being bound by rules which make things unpleasant. I used to stress over having to have perfectly matching gift wrap and tags – not that I was good at it, but I stressed nonetheless. This Christmas I didn’t. And felt better for it! As you can see, they didn’t match but I liked the tags, had run out and wanted to use them. So I did! Hah!
And if someone has an opinion that this isn’t how it ‘should’ be done – I’d say ‘when I did it I didn’t have you in mind!’ or ‘you’ll get over it’ – might be worth trying those two phrases in certain situations this yuletide when visitors come who are hyper-critical! Keep me informed! Lol.
Here’s a fab video done by the team at my charity – have a look at some of the superstar canines at MDD!
Did you see the superb article by Andrew Pierce in the Mail perfectly summing up the work the Medical Detection Dogs team do and posing the question ‘if I get near a sniffer dog will it sniff out prostate cancer on me? (the answer is no, by the way!) But fascinating nonetheless and a good explanation of what they do. Their noses are so good they can sniff the equivalent of one drop in an Olympic sized swimming pool by the way (one part per trillion!!!) more here from Mail online.
And go here to see the total of my fundraising this year so far! I’m beyond proud. Turns out Anne Dawson’s hubby might have a contact in ‘industrial freezers’ too – believe it or not – meant to be, or what! More news soon about how our funds have helped them. And a special thanks to Nigel who donated enough to help buy some ‘go pro’ cameras for one of the trustees to record some vital footage about how far away the do is when it detects – they’re still trying to work out exactly what alerts them. Here’s what to do if you’d like to help – even a pound would be gratefully received!
- None over Christmas but join me New Year’s Day late pm, after my shift to chat about all things wellbeing and healthy – and the first Back to You show which is at 3pm, and Bruce is on with me at 4pm with Bodyblade! Yay!
- Last week’s included Q&As with Adele from SBC, and Rosa from Yankee (go here for more info) plus lovely Gill Gauntlett’s was accompanied by a drop-in from Mally in last Friday’s QVC UK facebook page 6pm webchat – see it here.
Happy Birthday to my lovely sister Linda!
She’s always had the short straw, so close to Christmas, but had a little meet up to help celebrate – it’s been a big year for her and I’m so proud to say she’s my sister. Happy birthday to anyone else whose big day is around now. Including our own Dale Franklin who was born on Christmas Day!
Out with my Kids
Also had the last little outing with just my two kids Brad and Lauren and me. Did some Christmas shopping in Guildford, and had a nice lunch in Bill’s. I do enjoy their company. Some people prefer it when their kids were small. I loved those times but my favourite era is now.
Fur Babies Christmas Dinner
No they’re not mine, but these are clearly someone’s babies! Funny! Probably better behaved than we were in Harrods! Lol!
Now these are mine! Got Patchy the old dog a warm winter coat – she looked like Green Riding Hood! And she’d shaken it off within half an hour! Back to the drawing board…
QVC HQ – Chiswick Park
Wow how pretty is this? This was the sight that greeted me on my way back from Harrods on Monday, the lovely lighting around the lake where we are based in London – I stopped and just took it all in for a while. See how calm the water was? It didn’t last long, it was stormy the next day! Makes me glad to work here though.
QVC Christmas Jumper Day And so does this – some of our staff at HQ getting into the Christmas spirit on Christmas jumper day – did you? We certainly sold enough this year!
Thinking of our Troops
And of course being an ex-BFBS kids presenter I always like to think of those who can’t be home for Christmas – the troops and whoever else is working over yuletide. I’m back on 30th for the Together tunic Today’s Special Value launch, and will be working over New Year – see below.
Solo Diners – Christmas Day Chats Just wanted to mention that if you’re alone on Christmas Day and you fancy finding someone to chat with online, there’s a special event page being set up for you to go along and have a chinwag – socialise with other QVC types in a similar situation – just go here for more info (or leave me a message on my Facebook page if you can’t see it and i will friend you then join you – or email me email@example.com). And whatever you get up to, I hope you have a nice day.
Best Pressie – Next week I’ll be asking you about your fave pressie and telling you mine – meanwhile, remember these…? Lol.
Final Facebook Funny for this year!
WATCH – Vonda’s son in Peter and Wendy! Bless our lovely Skechers guest, Vonda, who tweeted this week –
There’s obviously so much telly on over Christmas but this one I will particularly be looking out for. It’s an all star cast too including one of my favourites, Stanley Tucci, and I’m told little ‘Curly’ is very good too. ITV Boxing Day afternoon – when I’ll be recovering with a day at home chilling with Brad and Kari after a very hectic Christmas period – one of the busiest I’ve ever known to be honest! Meanwhile here’s the trailer –
Also – Jim Broadbent in the West End – not going to a panto this year, but on 29th I will be going with just Lauren to see one of my favourite actors, Jim Broadbent, in A Christmas Carol at the Noel Coward theatre. Loved him in Bridget Jones, loved him in Brooklyn – AND in Lady in the Van recently. Can’t wait! Here’s a sample – almost totally sold out when I last looked, but probably brilliant!
Bloopers – several for you this week – a blooper bonanza! And some very funny! Poor Fiona!
Simon has a secret second job…
Does Catherine have a stick-on fringe?
Alison’s on-air shoes revealed!
Has Fiona been at the sprouts?!
QVC Highlights –
- Midnight on the 30th – Together Tunic – join Carla Lazlo and me for the launch of this smashing new chiffon fronted top!
- New Year’s Eve finale then if you hate going out on New Year, join in with our look back at QVC’s best bits from 10pm till midnight, when there will be a new Imedeen Today’s Special Value with my pal Emma.
- Back to You 3pm New Year’s Day – then… it’s baaaack! My super wellbeing show has an extra helping on 1st Jan, followed by a whole hour of Bodyblade with Bruce at 4pm. Then he and I are hopefully off to see Joy – the film about Joy Mangano, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper – it looks fab! Can’t believe a lady who used to be on QVC with us is the heroine of a Hollywood movie! Do you remember her and her rolykits?!
Next week – My Review of the Year blog! Have a fantastic Christmas and remember – if you feel down at all, write out a list of everything you have to feel grateful for, find something on YouTube that makes you laugh, and let go of the rules that are no longer serving you – who cares if the tags match the gift wrap anyway ?! Not Santa Debbie! Ho Ho Ho!!
Ps *TiFFT = try it for the first time club
