Spent a lovely weekend at home in Devon …
Gracie’s Idea of Gardening…
Gracie’s at it again. What’s the point of me trying to put wonderful plants in my flower bed, when this is what happens?! Bless her. I think she likes how cold and comfy it is and must feel nice on her poorly hip. If I could only take away her hip dysplasia I would – she really is such a loving doggy.
Hive-ing a Lovely Time
Went to see my wonderful pal in the village this week during one of the hottest afternoons and had a thoroughly enjoyable chin wag and a cuppa near the rolling fields of Sheepwash. Then she showed me these – bee hives! Amazing eh? First time I’ve been that close to any real bee hives. They produce about fifty pounds of honey each year too and she let me taste it – it is quite aromatic and a tiny bit floral – blimmin lovely!
With baby Arthur and hubby Brian and his sis, at the weekend, and I managed to get there and share a day or so with them before they headed back in the traffic. They said it was a lovely relaxing time. I’m so glad. I do try to make time to see people at home although Heather and co sorted themselves out mostly as they were there before I arrived. This was a lovely dog walk down to the Torridge though!
Had some lovely vlogs this week – this week’s best vlog, from a super sunny bank holiday in Sheepwash is posted on my official Facebook page (’like’ the page and you’ll see the updates in your feed as I post them!)
Also go here to see the super video I did when I visited a super nursery and café with pal Sheena called Madewell, which has a kid’s farm area, craft workshops and employs people with special needs and learning difficulties – what a great idea!
Maidstone woman and her Diabetes Detection Dog Nominated for Prestigious Award
Well that was the headline and what a nice chat we had with Louisa from KentOnline TV channel who invited me and Claire Pearson with Pal her Medical Detection Dogs partner, to their studios in Maidstone last week. Had a super lunch beforehand too – I do like putting the world to rights!
Oh yes, this really happened to me this week! Oops!
“I had to get up early at my brothers house to let a builder in the back door in order to turn electricity supply on, and then, still half asleep, I went and had a wee in the downstairs loo, when suddenly the door opens and builder man is halfway in, almost unbuttoning his fly before he realises someone is sitting on the loo with their trousers round their ankles saying no!
“He exclaims ‘oh my GOD!!!!’, with the emphasis on God and many exclamation marks. I had forgotten to lock the door. Had no choice but to walk outside and just point and say ‘your turn,’ Then make myself scarce!
“Once I got ready and left, there was no eye contact as I said ‘have a nice day goodbye!’ And he muttered something similar.” #StiffUpperLip. Ha ha X
Book of the Week
Together by Julie Cohen. It’s a Richard and Judy book of the week and what I didn’t realise is that the R&J version has a bonus short story inside the paperback as well! Whoop! Julie’s such an excellent mentor. My book review this week on my Riwisi website blog features a chat with her about what it’s like to be a Richard and Judy choice – such an accolade. And of course prominent positions in bookshops – it’s all part of it. It’s the stuff of dreams and as the Carpenters song says, (sort of) we can dream, can’t we, us would-be authors?! At least I’ve got my week in Cyprus next week to get my book done.
Watch: Solo – a Star Wars Story
Well, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this film out this week in cinemas. My review which I posted afterwards, (but where it’s gone I do not know!) said that it took me a little while to get used to the Aiden Ehrenreich version of Han Solo, but in the end it was filled with enough clever little touches to make it work. I did like it a lot actually – I will probably watch it again at some point so for me, that’s the litmus test. If you loved the original, and who didn’t (be still my beating heart) then Harrison Ford should be quite pleased with this ‘prequel’ to the first ever film, Star Wars (A New Hope). 8.25/10 – the two female leads let it down.
