Biba is Back!

How are you? A few of you have tweeted me asking ‘Where are you, Marv?’ I could fib and say I’ve been on a two week cruise to the Caribbean  (I wish!) but in fact I’ve had some time off at home, sorting out things at the house and also doing a few other telly jobs. So I’m back on your tellybox at QVC tomorrow night (Thursday) at 7pm with some techonology – a show packed with a fabulous TSV – an All-in-one PC from Lenovo

and a host of other useful items to have at home – especially if you want a way to stop intrusive phone calls from salespeople. You’ll also be able to see a demonstration of this clever call-blocking device

But then at 8pm I’ll be hosting the only show of the day of Biba. It’s the first show of the year for, what I think is a really outstanding premium fashion brand and I’m really excited to be able to show you all the pieces. You might remember Biba from back in the 1960s, and this range is really a modern take on this heritage brand which you have known in the past and loved very much.

Hot, rockin’, sexy and sassy, right up my street – and I hope yours too. We’re talking black, gold, studs and in the hour I’ll have 14 items: a mixture of dresses, tops, blouses and some kimonos too! In truth, I’ve loved the brand years before they came to QVC. Here’s an old photo of me my in a full-length purple Biba gown at the Royal Television Society Awards back in 2010.

Just warn you it’s the first show of 2016, there won’t be another Biba show until April, and  – having looked at my running order – there are teeny tiny numbers of each item available – so once they’ve gone, they’ve gone.

CS and Marv

The last couple of weeks I’ve been involved with some media training. In the many years I’ve been working in the media one of things I’ve enjoyed the most is helping those coming up in the profession – be they budding journalists, presenters or behind-the-camera staff. I had a really fabulous day helping train up six burgeoning TV directors, giving them more experience of working on a live television studio. A team of us took over The London Studios (where they film ITV’s This Morning). My old friend, Eamonn Holmes, popped his head around the door of my dressing room to say hello before we started our afternoon. We used to work together at Sky News. Anyway the day was brilliant fun, presenting a show that was a bit like This Morning. And  I got to work with a former pal from ITV Central News & BBC Midlands Today, Steve Clamp (look out for him in the suit at the end of the video!).The week after that we trained the same group of directors on how to film a Music Awards Ceremony, which we filmed at Pinewood Studios in the place where the BBC broadcast the National Lottery live draw.(I did hunt about for a sighting of anything Star Wars-related, but to no avail. I read somewhere that they’ve started building the sets for the next movie)

Plus I was lucky enough to go to the ITV National Television Awards the other week, as guest of Heineken (who were one of the awards sponsors of the event)

    Hi Marv

I don’t do twitter, so can only chat here. Re the pic of you & Craig (?) , I like your ‘natural’ look.
I hope you’re not leaving Q, given the other TV work mentioned. Good to give back, but surely you are paid for this work.
Enjoy your new home. Did you say you were in Mosely?

    Clare xxx

Hi Pauline – Craig is a lovely lad, it was superb fun working with him. He drew the short straw and was outside all doing in the cold doing the OB (Outside Broadcast) section of the awards, I got the warm studio! Hi Clare – lovely to hear from you – oh I like to keep busy!
