Best-selling author Lee Child on QVC

13

Wow – what a great honour it was to be asked to meet Lee Child – one of the UK's best selling authors! If you're a regular of mine, you'll know I've interviewed several authors and an agent, and featured quite a bit over the months about writing a novel. Of course mine is a Mills & Boon, so I was particularly interested when I heard what Lee's going to be selling.

He's appearing on QVC this Thursday with his brand new book in hardback – 'The Affair'. It's going to have his signature too. We've got a bit of an exclusive since he's not doing many interviews and I was thrilled to be asked to chat to him about this 'prequel' story.

His hero is the famous Jack Reacher – a bit of a heart-throb/love 'em and leave 'em/hard-nosed ex- military kind. But in this story, we see him in his younger days and get some painful answers about why he becomes the man who's helped Lee sell over 20 million books globally. In 'The Affair', Jack  actually has a fully fledged romance – so it's a must for all the women who want to be with him and all the men who want to be him. And a dead cert for all Lee Child addicts!

I'll be asking Lee about why this book is the perfect first purchase if you've never read one of his before, and about the film that's just being made starring Tom Cruise. Do try to watch this Thursday – or record it – if you can. One of my proudest moments on QVC, for sure. Lee is also a lovely guy. In our preparation I met him to talk about being an author and what advice he'd give to anyone starting out now.

Good advice eh!

His book would make the best gift for those 'difficult to buy for' guys – and teenagers – and women who love a strong hero! Er… I guess that's most people!  Join me on QVC in the 9am Morning Show on Thursday (22nd September). Or else I may be able to post the link to watch the interview at a later date – check any comments below if you miss it.

By the way – another fab hero is Justin Timberlake – in 'Friends with Benefits' – review coming in the next blog – don't miss it!

Hugs,
Debs

I think he is selling out by allowing Tom Cruise to play Jack R – he is nothing like our favourite (well mine) hero. Please ask him why he is letting TC do this please please

I LOVE Lee Child’s books-I’ve now downloaded most of them onto my Kindle and am savouring them all!
I can’t see Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher though-he’s far too pretty and not at all my vision of Jack.

Love Lee Child’s books, but Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher. Ha ha ha. That is just ridiculous.

    Hi Debs
I really liked the interview and the book sounds really good. I heard you said people were recommending great books for you because of your interest in writing. I have just read a fantastic book called To Kill a Stone Heart by Mason Dove. Its a great detective novel with a difference. The author has autism like my son and it gives you a great view into the mind of someone like my son. However you don’t need to know about autism to enjoy it as its a great story on its own. I just thought you would like it as it will make you laugh and cry throughout and the characters are really interesting.

Michelle – glad to hear yoga went well! HOpe you enjoy the intvw! I was quite pleased with it – he gave us quite a lot of info about the character of Reacher – and about why they chose Tom Cruise too!

Jane – lovely to hear from you on here. THanks so much for your comment – I must admit you’re not the only one! But hope you saw why they went with Tom Cruise and what Lee had to say about it?
Not sure that helps any, but fingers crossed film will be good anyway!

Jason – you’re not alone! I know what you mean – Emma in the film version of ‘One Day’ was Anne Hathaway with a ‘not exactly yorkshire’ accent throughout, but I did enjoy it as a stand alone production. Even though I absolutely loved the book. And if I had to say one or the other, I’d recommend the book.
Maybe the film will be good in its own right, even though Tom’s not 6’5″ like Jack Reacher is !! Not many actors are, I guess!
Thanks so much for commenting – it’s lovely to see new names on here! As well as my regulars!

Pauline – thanks for the recommendation! i’ve got a long list as you know, but always room for one more! Am sure there’ll be a lot of other people reading this who will take up your suggestion too.
Funny thing recently when I went to see that psychic in Southampton the other week, she said I’m a dreamer and romantic when it comes to relationships and I ‘must read a lot of love stories’ – how true! They’re my first choice, I must say. Probably also why I go see films like ‘One Day’ and ‘Friends with benefits’ eh! Still, a girl’s gotta have her dreams…

Hello again guys – just to let you know, I’ve uploaded the QVC interview I did with author Lee Child – you’ll find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ee5ykHRNMow – where he discusses where this new book came from – The Affair tells us why Jack Reacher is the man he became. And it’s the prequel for the rest of the famous series! And what he thinks of Tom cruise becoming his hero on the big screen. And what his wife thinks of his female characters!
