Thought I’d share some “behind the scenes” pictures with you this week, from a day we spent filming at my house in Gloucestershire. We were making what we call a “promo” – a little advert, which will be running on QVC to promote our new interiors show “At Home with Jackie”.
The finished item will only be about 30 seconds long but to produce something of that length that looks really good, takes a full day of filming. So it was an early start for the crew that day, as they packed the van and hit the M4 to make the two hour trip.
Not so early for me – what a treat to be working from home! All I had to do was run round with the vacuum cleaner and duster and make sure the biscuit cupboard was well stocked (little known fact – a TV crew cannot physically function without tea and biscuits)!
Once they arrived, the van was swiftly unpacked and my hallway quickly began to resemble one belonging to somebody about to move house (pictured top).
I’ve filmed in my house many times, particularly during my GMTV days, but I’d sort of forgotten how much kit is involved – SO MANY BOXES! The first scene was in the conservatory, which involved rearranging the furniture completely – what works in real life doesn’t always work on TV! (pictured above left)
Then we shot some stuff in the kitchen – as you can see, it was more than a little chaotic (pictured below left). And here’s a little telly secret for you. One of the shots involved a delicious Victoria sponge, which I was supposed to have whipped up in a KitchenAid mixer.
To save time (and also, because I am the worst cook in the world and would have no clue how to make a cake), the crew picked up a supermarket cake on the way. We bashed it up a little bit and, hey presto, a homemade cake. (pictured above right) And yes, as soon as the shot was done, we ate it. And yes, it was delicious.
Some filming in the bedroom and lounge (pictured left) followed. In the lounge scene the producer got me to tap away randomly on my iPad while they filmed the shots, and I “accidentally” managed to buy a pair of Carole Hochman pyjamas. Whoops…!
All in all it was a very fun day and you should see the finished product on your screens soon in the run-up to the next show. If you missed the first one, the next edition is currently scheduled for the 21st of October, and I’ll tell you more about that as I get it.
Have a brilliant week, and do get in touch either by leaving a comment below this blog or by following me on Twitter (@jackiekabler).
