Behind the scenes at QVC

Hi everyone,

I often get asked what it's like to be a QVC presenter, so I thought I'd make a video showing all the things I get up to behind the scenes!

Take a look and let me know what you think.

Love Catherine x

P.S. Have you seen that we're now on Facebook?

Oh wow! That’s a really interesting film and shows just how much hard work goes on behind the scenes. It also shows that the presenters are so much more than that, and that they don’t just turn up and go on set – all the preperation work/meetings that go on make it such a varied job. Well done to all involved – and great to see behind the scenes with you, Catherine!
    Take care
    Love and best wishes

    Hi Heidi,
Thanks for your message. I’m so pleased you enjoyed it! I’ve wanted to do something like this for ages. This wa just a little snapshot but I have been filming little vids that I hope to start putting up soon.
This one was filmed by my friend Steve at QVC who also took the trouble to edit it and put music to it. What a clever lad! My own vids will be much more amateurish, I’m afraid but still maybe worth a little look so watch this space!
    Lots of love Catherine x

    Hello lovely Kitty,
I’m glad you liked the little film. It was so much fun to do. It was just a little taster but I do hope to more behind the scenes videos up on my blog soon.
I look forward to seeing you ‘tweeting’ or on here again soon! I hope you are keeping well.

    Hi Catherine,
What a brilliant idea to show us QVC “behind the scenes”, I loved it.
I am sure a lot of us viewers would love to see more, I know I do. How about getting some of the other presenters in on it too, and givung us a sneeky peek at their dressing rooms, I would love to see Anthony’s, I bet I am not the only one.
You should go a bit “glam” and have some sparkly lights on your dressing room mirror just like they do in Theatreland, I think you are a star.
Love watching you on TV, you are like a ray of sunshine, so natural, you really cheer me up as I am not able to get out and about as one of my sons is very poorly and disabled, and me being his 24 hour carer it is very tiring.
Don’t know what I would do if I did not have QVC, it is like having your friends with you 24/7.
Love to you and take care,
PS Hope you and your family have a wonderful Xmas and a peaceful New Year.

    Hi Catherine,
I am Bonnie (living in Germany)and just love the way you present the jewellery, therefore I have sent you this information as added info. You put in such an effort and I also wanted to say … thank you. Your grace and beauty (in and out) compliment the jewellery so beautifully.
Stay the lovely person that you are.
Kindest regards from a wet and cold Germany

    Retro Jewelry
With the world in a war, and little available Platinum, the Jewelry produced in the 1940’s and later in the early 50’s, took on new characteristics. The Retro Jewelry was large and had heavy designs in rose or pink and yellow gold with Rubies and Diamonds or combinations of gold and multicolored precious and semiprecious stones. America copied the jewelry of movie stars and divas. Gold was $30 and ounce and the heavier the better. Today there are still many Retro Diamond and Colored Gemstone Retro Rings, Retro bracelets, Retro Earrings, an Retro Necklaces. Multi Colored stackable eternity rings were worn and larger size diamonds could still be bought at $500-$600 a carat range.
    Modern Jewelry and Moderne Jewellry
Jewelry made in the past 35-40 years would qualify. Much of this jewelry swung back to 14k, 18k, and 22k Yellow Gold. As the gold prices rose and the Diamonds and Precious stone increased in price, the diamonds became smaller and the gold mountings became lighter in weight. Many more semi precious gemstones were used.
    Edwardian Jewelry
This was jewelry produced from 1905-1920’s after the death of Queen Victoria. The jewelry combined finely detailed work in Platinum, and Diamonds, with delicate and intricate designs. Edwardian diamond Engagement rings, Edwardian Filigree Rings, Edwardian filigree bow Pins and Edwardian Earrings became popular. Edwardian Necklaces and Edwardian Diamond Bracelets were popular. This popular swirly, curvy jewelry came in Platinum and White Gold.
    Art Deco Jewelry
Jewelry produced in the 1920’s and 30’s was inspired by the French and their “Art Decorative” movement. Art Deco Jewelry had bold and modernistic designs utilizing sharp lines, and striking color combinations. Filigree was still used in the Style of Art Deco Rings; it was just configurated in geometric pattern. New York’s Empire State Building is a perfect example of the Art Deco Era. The Art Deco Diamonds rings and the Art Deco Bracelets were designed in White Gold and Platinum and they had beautiful clean Gemstones and Diamonds. The Art Deco Bracelets of the 1930’s came set with Diamonds there were art Deco Bracelets with Diamonds and Sapphires and Rubies and Emeralds.

    Hi Catherine
I absolutely LOVED the video. I have always wondered what goes on back stage. I can’t believe you have to do your own hair and makeup. I expected you to be having stylists fussing around you. I always enjoy watching your shows and I will look at them in a different light now. Like reading your twitter page as well. Keep up the good work

This was a brilliant little viewette of life at QVC Towers! Have been poorly for a while and QVC has kept me company at all hours of the day and night when I have been feeling yukky and family have not been around – in fact feel like QVC has become an extended family. More of the same please – thank you Catherine – love your shows, you have a lovely relaxed style and the vid confirmed that you do your homework which is probably why you make it look so effortless. Also great to see some of the ‘behind the scenes’ peeps – they do a great job too x x

    Hi Samantha,
I’m so pleased you liked this little peek behind the scenes. I have plans to do a lot more such as behind the scenes ‘Gossip from the Green Room’ so keep an eye on the blog!
I’m sure the other presenter will be giving sneak peeks into their dressing rooms very soon. I’ll mention it to them. You mentioned Anthony’s dressing room..he is right next door to me and has a spotless dressing room. Immaculate! He also always offers me tea and cakes when he is in at the same time as me. What a sweetie.
I used to have lights all around my mirror before we moved to the dressing rooms we are now in. I do miss them. I also had my dressing room painted pink whereas now it’s more conservative but chic. You’re right, though, I could do with even putting some fairy lights up. Perhaps even decorate for Christmas!!
Thanks for your very kind comments about me, Samantha. I’m glad we offer a bit of cheer to your day. I can’t imagine being in your shoes. It must be every parents nightmare to see their child ill. You seem like an upbeat positive and loving person so keep that lovely chin up as much as you can.
I hope you get some treats this Christmas even if it’s just a nice soak in a hot bath whilst someone else helps you out. Try to get a tiny bit of ‘you’ time. Have a lovely one and feel free to call in or text one day.
    Lots of love Catherine x

    Hi Amanda,
Thanks for writing in. Yes, we really do our own hair & make up. Lots of people are surprised by this. I think that’s why it’s so exciting for us when we have shows with a make up artist or hairdresser like GHD or Smashbox and we get a little pampering!
When I was at QVC US a few years ago for a live Wayne Dyer broadcast to the UK (that was bloomin’ exciting!) I was amazed to see they have a whole make up & hairdressing room for all on air presenters, guests and models! Needless to say they kindly did my make up for my shows. Lovely.
    Have a fab Christmas.

What a very thoughtful thing to do! I have copied and pasted it all and it will go onto my dressing room wall for my reference. Fascinating info. I love it!
I must admit I do like to really look into the items I present and find out as much as I can to share with people watching. It’s so enjoyable and quite remarkable just how much I have learned over the past 6 years.
It’s wet & cold here in the UK, too but the sun has just popped out to say hello and very welcome it is, too!
Have a wonderful Christmas, you lovely kind person.

    Hi Sally Ann,
Really sorry to hear you’ve been so poorly. I do hope you are having an ‘up’ day today. Have you tried crafting at all? It can really take your mind off things and allow you to disappear into your own world for hours at a time.
One of my best friends went through a very very difficult time and I got her a crafting kit and it’s been a new lease of life for her and she now paints and sells her wonderful paintings.
Obviously it doesn’t have to be crafting but any hobby to help you just escape your troubles and focus your mind for a while (that you could do at home at any hour of the day) could be a big help, maybe?
It gives me a warm feeling inside when I hear people say we are like family. I feel the same about you, too. To know you’re there watching and enjoying what we are is just great.
I hope you have a lovely Christmas and that better times are on the way for 2010 for you.
    Lots of love,
    Catherine x

    Hi Joanne,
No trade secrets here! Happy to share. I use the GHD thermal protection spray but I’m always trying different things. I didn’t use any hairspray when achieving those curls you saw in the video but I do find the GHD firm hold ‘fix’ spray (in a black bottle) is good and my daughter has used up my bottle of it on her hair! All my stuff finds its way into her room somehow!
    Hope that helps!

Thank-you so much for showing the viewers what goes on behind the scenes at QVC.I am a huge fanatical fan of Honora Pearls and of course the lovely Ralph Rossini.I was kindly invited to come to QVC next week for a Honora Pearls workshop and to meet Ralph and be able to see what happens back stage.I stay in Scotland, but I was so excited that I decided I was going to book a flight for my sister and myself to come down to London, and guess what, the hospital appoinment for me to go in for an operation came the following day.Of Course it had to be at the same time didn’t it.I am truly gutted that I will miss meeting Ralph and all the presenters.Anyway I hope you all have A Merry Christmas AND a Happy New Year.x

    Hi Catherine,
I really enjoyed watching your video behind the scenes. I’m sure it’s all a mad rush and very hectic before (and during the time) you go on air. I can also imagine there might be more of a whirlwind around some presenters, more than others! It’s obvious that you always do loads of research about your products – it always shows. Wish there could be some competitions to meet presenters, have a tour around QVC etc. I would love to come along, after shopping with you from the beginning. I also have to say I love your hair blonde, it really suits you. Thanks for taking the time to show us around, hope to see more.

People are always surprised when they see just how much work goes into presenting. It’s like 90% of my work is done off air and then the presentation on air is 10%..but then I’m a big nerd and do like to be extra thorough!!

Just checked again and they are not Babyliss! They are Nicky Clarke ‘detox tong with nano silver technology’. Oh dear, I think I may have told someone else they were Bab ones, too. Woops…

It’s so so easy to spend all your money before you’ve even got it when you work at QVC! At least I can honestly say I am not the only one at work who succumbs to temptation. My lovely Craig Rowe and I may just be the most QVC aholic amongst the presenter team!
It’s the whole office, though, not just the presenters. I spot handbags, outfits, make up and so on and so on all the time on my colleagues that I know they bought from QVC.
Netbook tsv’s are another buy many of us can’t resist. They are popping up all over our coffee shop, at desks, backstage…we can’t resist a good buy.
Yvonne, I’m sure you’ll sparkle brightly this Christmas with all your fab B&W goodies. I hope you have a fantastic time.
    Lots of love

    Hi Catherine
I’ve just watched your behind the scenes video, love it, it’s nice to see what yourself and other presenters get up to when your not presenting. Like other people have said it would be nice to see more. i love buying all sorts from QVC, beauty, (great that i can try products within the 30 days as i have sensitive skin, i’ve spent so much on products from the high street that have irritated my skin) kipling, craft items, and in the last year i started collecting Honora Pearls just bought the TSV set of sugar and spice, this will be my xmas present from my grandparents, i can’t wait. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year x

    Hi Vicky,
Glad you liked the video clip. There will be more to follow but it’ll be my filming so not as fantastic as the one you watched but still a nice peek behind the scenes.
Enjoy your lovely pearls, what a treat. I hope you & your family have a wonderful Christmas.
    Lots of love,

    Hi Sandi,
Nice to hear from you again…and a very happy 50th birthday for whenever it is or was!
I think you are just going to love the putty colour of the bag. I use mine all the time. It’s so practical, too. Obviously I have other Lulu bags but that one is definately the most practical ‘carry your life around with you’ bag of them all.
Enjoy your Christmas and I hope Santa brings you lots of lovely girlie things!
    Love Catherine x
