With Paul Melinis

More from behind the scenes

Hope everyone is well and happy? It’s been a crazy busy week for me, so today I’m going to blog mostly in pictures and videos, including the second of my “behind the scenes at QVC” clips – so here we go!

First, did you manage to catch the lovely boys from Blue joining us on the Morning Show? They release their fifth studio album on 9th March and popped in to sing a couple of tracks and have a chat. If you missed my interview, click on the video on the product page here.

Next, my latest behind the scenes video. This week I’ve given you a bit of a presenter’s view of a show… the things we see, and you don’t! I’ve had lots of requests for other things you’d like to see, so I’m going to try to work my way through those over the next few months. Enjoy….

I’ve also been filming this week ahead of an exciting new venture for QVC in March. We have featured some cruise holidays in the past, but now in association with Insight Vacations we are giving you the chance to experience some incredible luxury, escorted touring holidays to India and Morocco. Don’t miss the Morning Show on the 2nd and 11th of March to find out more, plus further shows on QVC Extra. The lovely Paul Melinis (pictured above) joins me in the studio to tell you all about it!

Container of riceOn a personal note, I’m still working to get the movement back into my hand and arm after my breakage and surgery. It’s a slow process…I can’t really rotate or bend my wrist very much, and it’s quite scarred and a bit lumpy looking, so I hope it doesn’t look too horrible on air! I’ve had my first physio appointment (OUCH!) but am also doing lots of exercises at home, and the lovely Bruce Hymanson (who invented the Bodyblade and is also a physical therapist in the US) gave me a good tip. He said to fill a container with rice, hide lots of small objects like coins in it, then plunge my hand in and wriggle the fingers about to retrieve them all. So I’ve been doing that while watching telly. I must look very peculiar, but I’m sure it’s doing me good!

Finally – cake. The fabulous Alison Bell’s Baking Bible must be one of my favourite books I’ve been given to take home from work….although naturally, as I literally can’t boil an egg, I passed it straight to hubby to try out a recipe. He made this….and yes, it tasted as good as it looked. A great Mother’s Day gift, maybe? Gorgeous book, full of the most delicious cake, tray bake, cheesecake, cupcake, tart and bread recipes. Yum!

Have a wonderful week, and as always I love to hear from you, either in a comment under this blog or on Twitter (@jackiekabler). Get in touch!

Hi Jackie, I sympathise with you regarding your wrist. I tore the tendons in my upper arm last year and had my op to repair it last May. I was trussed up in a large sling for 6 weeks not able to move the arm or hand at all, and started physio in June 2014. I am still doing some exercises as I’m told by the docs that it takes 12 to 18 months to get fully right, but now I can use the arm and hand , so persevere with the exercises and you will be rewarded. You just have to have patience.

      Hi Ann,
Yes I’ve been told about a year too, and that I might carry on seeing improvements for up to two years. It’s hard to be patient but I guess we have to be! Hope you recover well.

I broke my arm when on holiday in Greece – not to be recommended. I can remember thinking oh it’ll be bit stiff once the plaster comes off but expected to be able to use immediately. So, not the case! However, I wasn’t referred to physio straight away and with hindsight that is definitely what should have happened. I had to fight to get a referral but once I was linked in with a physio things began to improve. However what really moved it forward was about eight months later when I had gone to the chiropractor for my back (I have gone to him for years and it just keeps my back ticking over) and happened to mention I had broken my wrist. He grasped my arm, did a painless manipulation and wow – it looked like my wrist again and I haven’t looked back!

      Hi Sarah,
That’s really interesting about the chiropractor – might have to try it! I too expected to be back to normal almost straight away and it is very frustrating, although you learn to adapt don’t you…I still have to do things like carry bags and open doors with my left hand, and I do it automatically now. I’m hoping the physio appointments will speed things up but I’m just so impatient, I want it to be fixed NOW! Thanks for getting in touch.
