Before, during and…

11

Although we have been doing quite a lot of work on the house over the past few months, it has been mostly DIY so we have been able to work at our own pace with minimum disruption. This week, however, has been different. The bathroom fitting team arrived on Tuesday and ‘ripped’ out our old bathroom completely, meaning we had no water or heating for the whole day. Thank goodness for my Dyson fan heater, as it’s amazing how quickly the house got cold with the front door wide open!

Just to digress a moment, and talking of Dyson, there is an excellent Today’s Special Value offer on a Dyson cordless vac this weekend (available online now), if you’ve always wanted one.

Anyway, back to the bathroom, it really makes you appreciate the fact that we have ‘water on tap’ in this country. Being without it for just part of one day reminds you how often we wash our hands and how important our choice of hand wash is, so that it doesn’t dry them. I’m already a fan of both the Liz Earle and Molton Brown hand washes… I wonder if there may also be something gorgeous in the upcoming Elemis Christmas Today’s Special Value? Hint, hint.

Without the bath, basin and loo in the bathroom, you would have thought the space would have looked bigger, but I think it actually looks smaller. I’m beginning to panic that the addition of a separate shower is going to make it all look too cramped – fingers crossed I’m wrong.

Here are the before and during pictures, hopefully this time next week I’ll be posting the ‘after’.

We have been without a bath or shower since Tuesday, so I have been making use of the facilities at QVC. Fortunately our daughter only lives a 15 minute drive away, so ‘im indoors has been able to stay clean too! I’m really excited to see the finished room, but it is all a bit of a ‘kerfuffle’! The guys are doing a great job though.

The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on – it always seems so close when we hit November, and you can say Christmas is next month! Halloween kind of passes me by, but I do like to try and catch a fireworks display on Bonfire Night.

Speaking of which, have any of you been watching Gunpowder on BBC1? It certainly puts a different slant on the ‘history’ I was fed at school. Am I the only one who had to hide behind my hands on the gruesome bits?

As well as being Bonfire Night on Sunday, it is also a day of beauty on QVC’s main channel, with an IT Cosmetics Today’s Special Value. You can get the fantastic make-up set online now.

Then next Sunday it is the Elemis Christmas Today’s Special Value, which I believe will be available to purchase from this coming Wednesday.

I’m not going to give you any clues at this point as to what is inside these boxes (apart from the massive hint I dropped above) but I will tell you that it comes in a choice of two options and I can’t choose between them as they are both divine.

I’ll give you a full run down of contents on next week’s blog.

Well, I must dash if I’m going to squeeze a shower in before going on air. Have a great weekend, keep yourselves and your pets safe if you are doing fireworks at home.

Much love,
Julia xx

ooh dying to see the finished article was watching you at 5 pm on the Clarks show today – wasn’t there some fab boots! And you’ve lost weight – what have you been doing as you look like you’ve dropped a ton

      Hi Janet
It will be touch and go regarding ‘finished’ bathroom pictures on tomorrow’s blog as it has taken a little longer than expected to do the tiling – lots if complicated cuts apparently. It’s looking fab though.
Thanks for noticing my weight loss. No alcohol (not that I drink much to be honest), low carbs and generally watching portion size. I haven’t weighed myself but I have lost three inches off my waist in four weeks 😊

Hi Julia hope you managed too get a shower in before your show! We are thinking of putting a shower in in place of a bath due to my health, I hope it also makes my bathroom more roomy

      Hi Karen
Yes, I did otherwise it might have been quite unpleasant for my guest presenters!
We had a shower over the bath so it will be really nice to have them seperate. I couldn’t do without a bath I don’t think.

Hi Julia, I too have been watching Gunpowder, and I agree that the gruesome bits are hard to watch, particularly in the first episode! I expect your bathroom will look fab when finished but it must be hard to cope with no water etc. I will look forward to the Elemis TSV as I love that brand, have a good week, Linda xx

      Hi Linda,
Did you watch Gunpowder from behind your fingers too?
The Elemis TSV is already available to buy – this link should take you there https://goo.gl/hdHEHV – I wonder which fragrance you will choose?

Hi Julia watched the Clarks show on Friday and can’t wait to see the end result of your bathroom – some great boots on the show and even I liked the “flatties”. However having not seen you for a while I noticed you seem to have dropped a ton of weight – have you been dieting – what’s your secret but you look like you’ve lost a lot – you are looking good and I loved the hair yesterday! It too has grown!

    Hi Julia,
A leak forced us to have our toilet replaced. OMG when we took the back wall of tiles off it was sodden, must of been leaking for years funnily enough it never smelt damp or suspected anything but the previous owner moved the toilet to a different area in the bathroom and completely bodged it. We were going to re- decorate the room anyway so we decided to completely refurb. We had to replace 5 floor boards and it looked quite scary with a five foot drop as we are a ground floor flat. We were without a loo or water for 2 days luckily enough I start work early in the morning so I was there in a flash to use the loo phew! so I know all too well how it feels. best wishes Sally

      Hi Sally,
Thank goodness our bathroom replacement was out of desire rather than necessity – your experience sounds horrendous. I can’t imagine being without a loo at all for 2 days 😱 – fortunately there are two others in our house but they weren’t always that accessible. All done now though and looking fab
