Claire Sutton's family

Bedding down and summer activities

15

Oh my goodness me, I have ‘possibly’ seen the light… after being with Dan for 22 years and with the running joke in the family being “Claire thinks the outside is the space from the front door to the car!”

I think by Jove, she’s got it, she’s only gone and got it!

Though let’s be steady here, and also explain what on earth I am talking about!

I’m getting a bed!

Claire Sutton's garden

Not one to sleep in but one to plant in, a more stylised cottage garden, with an abundance of cut flowers as my brief (do you think there is such a thing!) I’m going to have to tend it I guess, though that will come later! For now, it’s all about the design and planning. I have loved, and I mean loved, researching and selecting the plants I would like for my bed.

Although according to Dan, half will be discarded as their habits will preclude them from use in my bed. I can’t have anyone with a lazy habit in my bed… oh no!!! Rigorous, and showy… that’s what I’m after!!! And perennials of course who are reliable and solid.

Then of course varying heights and tones of purples and splashes of pinks will be needed to create the swathe and elegance I’m hoping for.

I can’t wait as I love bringing flowers into the house from the garden and aside from Alliums which I would be throttled for picking, Verbena which sheds and Hellebores whose bowing heads dip shyly at the dining table there’s not a lot of vase action currently going on.

I will keep you posted on how it’s going…

There’s been lots of Skechers shows on QVC recently and just adding proof of their brilliance, here is my lovely friend Charlotte who along with Barb and Donna did the Moonwalk in their Skechers.

Claire Sutton's friend

With over 150 miles clocked up in training during which Charlotte went through two different trainers from another brand which resulted in terrible blisters and tendonitis. She then switched to Skechers to complete the training plus the 30 miles on the actual night and in her words “I LOVE THEM”. Well done to you girlies and to all of you who walked the walk that night.

We had a cheeky little escape up to Yorkshire in between my shifts at QVC during half term, a lovely opportunity to get us all outside, together and off the ever present screens!

Here’s my ever changing trio.

A lovely photo taken at Bolton Abbey, which is always breathtakingly beautiful and offers so much regardless of the season. I’m simply ignoring Tom’s bunny ears above Maddie’s head by the way, cheeky boy! Talking of cheeky, Tom is taking Maddie’s protection in the sun very seriously as you can see here!!

We had as ever, the loveliest time doing lots, including a spot of trout fishing, although I’m not sure any of us are made to be fishermen. Dan was smiling in this photo but we all struggled with the realities of fishing…

We did have some super weather the other week and for our snatched visit to Yorkshire but having been asked by lots of guests this week about my ‘tan’ I thought I would share… Decleor‘s gradual glow and Tan Luxe drops are gently helping lets just say!

I rifled through Ruth Langsford’s Fashion Edit and found Helene Berman’s beautiful soft pink long line coat… It’s gorgeous and I WANT it!!

There is so much going on here with Dan’s Birthday and Maddie’s 13th this month so lots of lovely celebrations ahead. Not so lovely were the PIP forms filled in for Tom. Painful to go through I have to say, however there’s the excitement of his Prom to prepare for… I know! Unfortunately we are in the midst of the end of year exams for Joe and Maddie, not Joe’s favourite time! Oh, and success for Maddie as she was selected for Pantomine again… thrilled for her but less so for me!!! Chaperone duties loom again.

Right off to the hairdresser’s I must go and I will as always look forward to catching up with how you all are on here.

I shall ‘see’ you this month on air on the 12th and 13th, 20th, 21st, 23rd, 26th and 27th and don’t forget I’m on Twitter @clairesuttonqvc if you fancy a chat and to keep up with things.

Lots of love,

Claire xx

Great blog Claire looks like a super break you all had, the children all look so happy, I can just imagine the ‘realities’ of fishing!
The forms we have to fill in are awful aren’t they I feel for you, they made me feel negative about our lovely Daughter and unfortunately as they get older there are still hoops to jump through and more forms to fill in, we are going through a horrible process at the moment. She is blissfully unaware thank goodness and that is what has always spurred me on to pick myself up & dust myself off, for her, her future and happiness.
I wish you and all your family well.
    Love Diane x

Hi Claire I think cottage garden will look good attract bees and butterflies good for environment. When I was little we use to pick wild flowers, they don’t have the same wild flowers now. Good for Dan catching a trout he has done better than my husband and he goes fishing catches nothing. HA HA.
    Take Christine x

    Hi Claire
The gardening sounds an exciting project, and bringing your own cut flowers into the house will feel and look great. We are about to try making our own wigwam to support sweet peas – from a kit bought from the local growers of Somerset withies. Have had to soak them for a week to make them pliable. Might be a fun family activity for you sometime?
    Best wishes
    Morag x

Hi Claire! Just to say a huge good luck in your application for PIP – I am going through the process of waiting to see if I am awarded it (wheelchair-user) so fingers crossed for us both! Much love, Kim x

How busy you have been, Bolton Abbey is a beautiful place my sister has a friend who lives in Brighton and came to visit her in Manchester and could not beleive how many places we could get to, they took her York and Leeds. PIP is a nightmare I helped my sister to fill in her forms, took her for the medical and she is now waiting to see if she still gets it. Good luck with your garden it’s not something I do. Enjoy your days off and tbe planning for the birthdays that you have coming up in your house x

Just in from qvc and it’s a scorcher, going to have a cup of tea, hide the presents that have arrived for the soon to be teenager in the house..! And head out to collect Tom from his work experience in a cafe today , I do hope he’s managed, he hates the heat.
You take care and speak soon,

    Oh Kim,
I so hope so. It’s a tough one as I don’t know about you but we certainly try to look at the positives for Tom and to be faced with the negatives in black and white are quite difficult.
    All things crossed xxxx

    Hi Susan,
We are on a count down to Corfu…still some time to go but Maddie loves the anticipation…still gives me time to make sure we are stocked up on ultrasun after this heat wave!!

Oh Diane, I know what you mean…it’s hard sometimes to keep on fighting isn’t it…but yes Tom too, happily is in his lovely life and knows not a jot of these trials and tribulations!! How old remind me is your daughter now? I think we have pockets of calm…which I do appreciate knowing we will have to rev up for the next load of ” stuff” to handle. But we do , don’t we ! Sending you my love xx

Christine…oh wild flowers are just the best ..I spent many a day collecting things whilst ,y friend Gillie and I pottered about, only to come home and for them to desperately try and recover from my hot grasp!!
I have a so called wild meadow area around Gypsy , tho this year aside from the odd stray hollyhock it’s more weed than wild…I shall see some seeds this year and hope to add some lovely bits in to it , so long as the natural wild weeds don’t strangle them!
    Lovely to hear from you,
    A cooler day today as I write…easier isn’t it!
    Love Claire
