The Beauty Insider Blog: summer essentials and a Gatineau offer!

1

Today I thought I’d share some of my favourite summer products that I always recommend to friends and QVC customers. Obviously, SPF is a given (and non-negotiable), so make sure you have a look at our great selection online before you go on your holidays.

My summer essentials:

Tea tree oil – there are so many ways you can use a product like this, with Australian Bodycare’s Tea Tree Oil being my favourite. Mix with water to wipe down surfaces, or if you’re going into self-catering you can put a few drops onto any fabric or bed linen (great if you’re camping). I’d also suggest placing a few drops under your nose on a coach, plane or train to keep your surroundings smelling fresh.

Apply a few drops into your post-sun body lotion to help maintain your tan, or sprinkle a few drops on your beach towel for added freshness. For breakouts and blemishes, just pop a few drops onto the affected area. You can also add a drop to shampoo and shower gel! Incidentally, the Australian Bodycare Skin Wash is also great for washing clothes to help eliminate odour if you’re running low on detergent.

Hydrating serum – to help your skin feel comfortable while still moisturising it, there’s nothing like a hydrating serum. Novexpert Hyaluronic Acid Booster and Sarah Chapman Skinesis Intense Hydrating Booster  are great for skincare fans looking to add products to their regimes, while the NIOD Multi-Molecular Hyaluronic Complex is fantastic for an oily complexion.

A hyaluronic acid-based serum is great for hot weather when abroad, or if the weather where you currently live goes over 25C. You almost can’t drink enough water to keep hydrated, and the only way to keep your skin looking plump and softened is to use a hyaluronic acid-based serum.

Hair saviour – to help look after sun-ravaged hair, an intense moisture mask will help. Use Philip Kingsley’s iconic Elasticizer (this three-piece set is scented with geranium and neroli too, to add to the holiday vibe), before shampooing your hair, or if you like a glam look during the day, the Inner Core Mask from Taya is great applied post-shampoo for added bounce, softness and shine.

You can also use Elasticizer while you’re at the beach or pool to help protect your hair from the sun.

Effortless lips and cheeks – for quick colour in natural tones on tanned or self-tanned skin, our July Product of the Month from Bobbi Brown is perfect for hot weather. Art Sticks won’t melt or run (even on lips), and can be used as a lipliner, lipstick and as a blended wash of colour on the cheeks. The Lip Colour is creamy, rich and comes in a choice of three really pretty and flattering hues.

My top tip: apply the Art Stick to your socket line for a hint of colour and definition, if you don’t fancy a lot of make-up on in the heat – perfect for a fresh-faced look!

Today’s Special Value offer from Gatineau

With the growth of some fantastic all-in-one cleansers in the last 20 years, many people have forgotten (or don’t even know) that there’s a real benefit to a separate eye make-up remover.

If you have puffy eyes, sensitivity, repeated irritation, more lining than you think you should, or a poorer condition skin on your eyes, or you’re wearing a water-resistant mascara, then a separate product such as Gatineau’s new Floracil Plus formulation is the professional’s choice, and it comes in today’s incredible kit from Gatineau, as well as on its own.

It’s a must to safeguard and help improve skin conditions around your eye, which can be caused by excess oil or balm textures and too much friction and rubbing from manual all-in-one products, using hands and cloths. Everyone should have a product like this at home!

When you have concerns around your eye area, don’t just think about eye cream or serum – think about the products you’re actually using to remove make-up around this delicate area.

There’s plenty more beauty goodness to be found at 8pm this evening, so tune into QVC Live to enjoy a show jam-packed with the best products, experts and brands, so you can give your collection a fabulous update.

Don’t forget to check out QVC’s Facebook page and my Facebook page, where you’ll find even more amazing content. You can also send me your comments on Twitter! Let me know in the comments if you’ve discovered The Beauty Stash too.

    Hi Alison
I received the gatineau TSV and I have to say how disappointed with the new Floracil Plus, it really is a big let down, the product is so oily on your eyes and I really thought Gatineau would have learned from the previous eye makeup remover being so oily that they would not repeat the same mistake of using oil and they have. I still have some of the original Floracil and I did one eye with each product and I have to say the original Floracil is still by far the best. Why oh why did they put oil in the ingredients, I am a contact lense wearer and the Floracil Plus is just awful on your eyes leaves them feeling irritated sticky and I would certainly not leave it on as a eye soother, I really hope Gatineau go back to the original formula because I predict this new one is a disaster and will not sell well. The original Floracil was soothing on the eye, had a wonderful fresh smell that took down puffiness on your eyes, just do not understand why Gatineau cannot get it right. Such a shame but won’t be buying any of the new version, really hope they bring back the original Floracil.
