The Beauty Insider Blog: summer skin on the go, plus get the best out of Gatineau

2

There’s so many exciting things to look forward to in tonight’s show, I almost don’t know where to begin!

I’d like to focus on your summer skin first, as we’re in the depths of the hot weather (on and off!) and it can be difficult to know how to adjust your routine accordingly.

Cleansing on Easy Pay

We’ve got a fabulous salon size of the Micellar Cleansing Water from Decleor coming up with a surprise Easy Pay offer that’s ideal for replenishing hot and sticky skin when the weather’s humid and muggy. It’s great for taking off sunscreen at the end of a day out in the sun and its soothing scent is really refreshing. It’s also perfect for taking off eye make-up and ‘tidying up’ your look by dipping a cotton bud into it.

TIP: While this product is great on the go as it doesn’t technically require water, you can make it much more economical by applying with a damp cotton wool pad as this makes it go much further!

Self-tanning for beginners

Also coming up tonight is a super size of the Gradual Glow Body Milk, also from Decleor. This global top-seller is so easy to use and I can’t recommend it enough. It doesn’t cling to the skin as darkly as ‘true’ self-tanning products, making it a great first purchase for those new to tanning or who may be worried about too strong a colour. You can also use it as an aftersun product post-beach or top up your colour after a spray tan – it’s great for delaying the dreaded fade!

TIP: Although it’s gentle, this product does still contain self-tanning ingredients so do wash your hands after applying and remember to exfoliate anywhere you’re dry to prevent streaking or patchiness.

Body, volume and bounce

Moving onto hair, I’m so pleased to be bringing you a complete set from Living Proof, a brand I so admire for their oil and silicon-free formulas. They’re really working hard to bring you new technologies in haircare.

This four-piece collection is ideal for those with thinning or lackluster hair, and features the Full Shampoo, Conditioner, Thickening Cream and Priming Spray.

On thing I will say is that you must use this brand as a full regime and really commit to the products. Because of the way the formulas are created, they won’t be as potent if you mix with other brands but they are fantastic for providing you with full-bodied style and hair that stays cleaner for longer.

TIP: You really don’t need a lot of product when it comes to styling. Apply at least half of what you would another brand and make sure to blow dry your hair after to really activate the ingredients for a style that will last for days to come.

Get the most out of Gatineau

I would really urge you to take a look at our Pick of the Month if you haven’t already. The Defilift Firming & Lifting Mask from Gatineau is such a multi-tasker and I love how it addresses so many different needs.

It works particularly well on oily or sweaty skin types as it has a slight drawing action that helps to cleanse pores, whilst at the same time tightening their appearance. It also doesn’t leave any redness in the way that other heavy-duty masks might, making it perfect for your pre-party skincare routine. Make-up goes on like a dream after applying this and your foundation will sit so smoothly… I can’t get enough!

I’ve been asked whether you can go out into the sun the next day after using this and I’m pleased to say you absolutely can (whilst wearing SPF, of course). Because there’s no retinols in this formulation, it’s fine for using on holiday before or after sunbathing.

TIP: I wouldn’t recommend applying this in the bath, as I would some other masks. You’ll need a dry atmosphere and clean skin in order for this product to do its job as it won’t set otherwise. If you’re short of time, use the cool setting on your hairdryer to speed things up.

A new beauty launch

Look out for skincare brand Evolve that we’ll be launching in August. Based in Hertfordshire, this fab brand are all about harnessing the power of natural ingredients. Their formulas are all vegan and cruelty-free and I just love their fuss-free apothecary style packaging. Keep an eye out for them if you love simple, clean formulations with a gorgeous smell and no ‘nasties’ added!

Don’t forget…

Our Summer Beauty Festival is still on and there’s lots of great deals on make-up, skincare and more to be found. You’ll see everything from Tarte, to NIOD to Philip Kingsley at great prices… snap them up quick before they’re gone!
