I had the pleasure of working with Jamie O’Banion from Beauty Bioscience in the summer, and was rather impressed with the science behind their range.
She and her Dad, Dr. Terry James, set up the company to approach things a bit differently from most skincare outfits.
Beauty Bioscience was founded several years ago to create a new skincare company that would employ the technology that Dr. James had developed during his many years working in research and development for other skincare companies. His daughter Jamie, who was both a model and worked in marketing, joined her father in developing Beauty Bioscience in order to offer people advanced skincare and anti-ageing solutions.
Today, the company focuses on creating skincare products that contain high-quality ingredients and deliver results their customers will notice.
One of the items we talked a lot about was the RetinoSyn 45 Anti-Ageing Treatment, and I was very interested to hear how the strength of the retinol in some products couldn’t be tolerated by our skin.
Their approach was to not only to create a preparation that is powerful and easy to absorb and tolerate, but also to introduce it to our faces slowly over a period of time.
RetinoSyn-45 is a night time beauty treatment and contains three phases. I used each phase for two weeks before moving up to the next phase. Within each phase, there are two steps: after cleansing my face with Alpha-H Balancing Cleanser (which is balancing and thorough), I then applied a pea-sized amount of Phase 1A (Regeneration Complex) to my face, avoiding direct contact with my eyes.
Next, I applied a pea-sized amount of Phase 1B (GFS Serum) directly on top of Phase 1A. These products can be used around the eye and lip area, just not directly in your eyes.
After two weeks I simply moved onto the pumps with Phase 2 and after two weeks of that treatment cycle I moved up to the final Phase 3.
You can see that the retinol concentration increases as the colour (retinol is yellow) deepened with each phase. When you have completed this advanced anti-ageing system, you can wait for five months before you need to use it again. So there is enough in the kit for a whole year of beatification.
When I started with the second treatment cycle six months later, I was worried that I might run out, but the dosages worked out EXACTLY right with no wastage and no running out.
When I used Phase 1 I was only very slightly aware of a light tingle after applying the creams, but by Phase 3 I could feel a very active tingle, only for a minute or so, after applying the creams. It was not unpleasant and actually made me feel that things were really working. The slight blushing after application, that I noticed with Phase 3, disappears in a minute or two.
After each treatment I decided that I should moisturise and used a ‘breathing, adaptive hydration seal for the skin that helps protect against the loss of natural moisturising factors and supplements the skins own moisturising factors’. It’s called Hydration Vaccine from NIOD and it’s great! It’s what I have been using for a while, so no change in my routine.
Beauty Bioscience have their own Ultimate Moisturising Cream, if you fancy going the whole hog and keeping to one brand.
The only other thing that I think is important in this routine is to exfoliate. I have always used Pixi Glow Tonic after I take off my work make-up (so there is a little exfoliation involved there). but once a week at home I use either Alpha-H Liquid Gold (which I stopped using during my trial), or Liz Earle Gentle Face Exfoliator, which I used once a week.
I treated the whole exercise very much as a controlled science experiment. I didn’t do anything that I didn’t normally do. I ate the same, slept the same and looked after my face the same as normal and I used each phase religiously, as was prescribed.
I was impressed with the results.
If you would like the chance to have your own make-over experience and see the difference it makes to your skin then you can!
