Hello – hope you had a good weekend?
I have had a great week and as mentioned in my last blog I was away in Barcelona for a few days – what a brilliant city! I hadn’t been there since I was a tour guide in Spain over 20 years ago and what a vibrant, international city it has become!
We had four days there and it was jammed packed; everything from chilling on the beach to having rooftop cocktails to visiting cultural sites and of course eating lots and lots of delicious tapas – yum!
The highlights for me were visiting the Sagrada Familia after all these years and seeing the progress that has been made on Gaudi’s masterpiece cathedral. Walking round the nave was just breathtaking (what do you think of the giant oyster on show there – imagine the pearl Honora would get from that!) and then climbing the towers was an incredible, if not nerve racking experience – although not as nerve racking as climbing back down the spiral staircase with a sheer drop view down the centre inspired by a snail shell – brilliant!
I remember back when I first visited over 20 years ago they said it wouldn’t be finished in our lifetime and now they are saying the goal is to have it finished by 2026, the centenary of Gaudi’s death. I know it’s a while away but god willing I am still alive and healthy that will be marked in my calendar!
I also really enjoyed visiting Casa Mia – the residential block also designed by Gaudi – particularly the roof which was like walking round an open air sculpture park and the arch that frames the view of the Sagrada Familia perfectly! Also excellent was the city view from the hill above Placa D’Espana as well as the dancing, colour changing musical fountains – all in all, a wonderful trip!
We did take the metro several times but generally walked everywhere and I know I have mentioned before but will mention again my Vionic trainers – just so incredible to walk around in all day with very happy feet at the end of it!
When I got back I celebrated summer solstice by doing an outside yoga class in Potters Fields in London Bridge, right by the Thames – what a wonderful experience and way to mark the solstice although rather sad to think the days start getting shorter now!
I have some great shows coming up this week – lots of fashion with Together, Isaac Mizrahi Live and Anybody Loungewear as well as Yankee Candle and Diamonique with lovely Andrea McClean so do hope you will join me.
In the meantime send you love and hugs and do post a comment below; I’d love to know what some of your favourite cities are?!
