It was good to be back on QVC yesterday after a three-week break although, in some respects, ‘break’ doesn’t seem to be the correct choice of word! It really has been a very busy time culminating in my book-launch party on Wednesday evening.
It was lovely to see so many friends there to support my latest venture. The venue was a beautiful Italian restaurant in Chiswick called Villa Di Geggiano where we filmed the piece for Chiswick Buzz with Lorna Ko. The restaurant owner, Gordon, very kindly offered to host the party for me and the ultimate seal of approval came from Simon Wilson who texted me to say what a beautiful restaurant it was – praise indeed from the creator of Butler & Wilson.
It was a lovely mix of people including Simon and Liz Earle, but also friends from the world of football, former Crystal Palace player, John Salako, and Palace Publicity Manager,Terry Byfield. I also invited Gareth Southgate and here was his reply: ‘Hi Julia, No offence but I hope not – Final is on June 30th x’
My head has been in such a spin I had totally forgotten that the U21 European Championships were taking place and Gareth is the England manager! Sadly they didn’t make the final as they lost on Wednesday night to Italy.
I was also really pleased that my former roomie from QVC, Anna Cookson, was able to make it with her boyfriend, Ed Davey. He is a novelist, I’m going to his book launch ‘do’ next Thursday, and another novelist, Jemma Forte, who you know better as the Molton Brown guest, was also there with her two children who behaved impeccably.
It’s always difficult for QVC presenters to gather due to shift patterns and distance but I was really chuffed that Jackie and Catherine were both able to come, and Catherine brought Yankee Candle‘s, Steven, too.
Liz Earle popped in with her daughter Lily and she brought me a present – the summer 2015 edition of her Liz Earle Wellbeing magazine. I haven’t had time to read it properly but just flicking through it is packed with health tips, beauty tips and recipes, and is beautifully photographed. I’m looking forward to relaxing with it over the weekend – in between my shows on QVC. All in all it was a lovely evening, even having to give a little speech which was more nerve-racking than appearing on live TV!
Earlier in the week I had been up to my home town of Nottingham. I managed to tie in a visit to my mum with an interview on BBC Radio Nottingham. My mum was very impressed with the radio host, Verity Cowley – I think you may have gained a new listener, Verity.
Then on Wednesday morning I drove to Brighton to pre record an interview for BBC Radio Sussex. I’m not sure when that is being broadcast but keep an eye on my twitter and Facebook for updates. When I got home I did a telephone interview with Pete Price for City Talk radio in Liverpool, which is being broadcast during his show on July 1st – the show starts at 10pm if you fancy a listen.
So it really has been busy busy busy, so much so that I haven’t had time to reply to your suggestions for sixty things to do in my sixtieth year but I will over the coming few days and thanks so much to all of you who came up with some great ideas. I have read them all though and I have chosen the three winners of a signed copy of ‘Life’s a Beach and Then…’
Congratulations to Joanna Downey, who made several brilliant suggestions, Ann Miles, who suggested a discreet tattoo, and Di Brown who thought I should try an RAF flying experience in a Spitfire!!! I will be using more of your ideas to compile my sixtieth year list, which I’ll post on here in the next couple of weeks.
Today is a very special day for Ali Keenan – her wedding day. After my hours on QVC, 2pm Carole Hochman, 3pm Prai and 5pm Clarks shoes, I will be heading to the wedding reception in Bray. I hope the weather stays kind for her and Colin.
I won’t be staying too late as I have a busy day on air tomorrow from 3pm, and I’m on Sunday and Monday too so I need to pace myself at my age!!! Which reminds me, thanks so much for my birthday cards – I picked them up at work yesterday and had another ‘birthday’ opening them.
Well, I hope you all have a lovely weekend whatever you have planned and do remember it’s Jewellery Day on Thursday
PS: I almost forgot! Debs Flint has asked me to do a Facebook chat on Monday evening at 8pm on her Back To You page. I’m not really sure what this entails but I’ll do my best xxx
