Pipa playing with her daughter

Back in the swing of things…

16

So after all the wonderful wedding happenings of the summer we are back into the swing of things! I can’t say I’m not glad to have a bit of routine back to be honest, as despite having quite a chunk of time away from QVC over the summer, it’s been absolutely crammed, jammed and non stop!

Firstly after the wedding and a few days together in Paris, we took the children off camping/glamping for a week in the Forest of Dean. I decided, (being a tent camper usually) that we should splash out and go for a bit of glamping this time and so we stayed in a magnificient dome structure tent type thing, with it’s own wooden shower room and loo attached, as well as a kitchen under cover …I know, sounds wonderful right?

Pipa lighting the fireWell, yes, it sounded a great idea at the time HOWEVER whilst I loved the idea of collecting wood to burn in order to heat the water for the shower and to cook our food, I didn’t factor into that the time required to heat things when using twigs …and using twigs in the wettest week of the summer!! I have to say it took patience …and lots of fire lighters!!! Oh how I longed for my little gas cooker and access to a shower block at the bottom of the field where hot water flows!

Pipa and her so at Tintern AbbeySaying that, once we had managed to make a cup of tea and have something for breakfast, we were off out on all kinds of adventures. We went mountain biking, walked for miles, fell in love with Ross On Wye, visited breathtaking places such as Symmonds Rock and Tintern Abbey and even managed to find a few rays of sunshine and some very friendly animals at Eastnor Castle.

Pipa holding a parrotI’ve totally fallen in love with parrots again. My grandmother had an African Grey whilst I was little – I’m thinking my menagerie needs expansion!

So whilst the sun shone we enjoyed the zip wire, our bikes, building fires, chopping wood, hunting boars and everything else the great outdoors had to offer us …and when it poured down …well we pretty much continued with the same as it didn’t stop!

So August done and dusted, we are now back to school and boy was that with a bump! Myles had to sit his 11+ exam on the Saturday at the end of the first week back which was the rudest awakening to year 6 you could imagine! Hey ho, it’s all over now, hopefully we can kick back and enjoy the rest of the year! #stilldrinkingchampagne

Look forward to catching up with you here and/or on Twitter (@Pipalive)

Much love

To be honest Christine, it wasn’t “glamping” as I had expected!! I really think we would have been more rested had we done the normal camping malarkey!!! Still, we had a ball :) xx

    Hi Pipa,
Thanks for sharing such lovely photos. You all look so happy and contented in them!
Your description of the time taken to heat water up using twigs and fire lighters reminded me of camping as a Girl Guide. We were only supposed to use fire lighters as a last-resort but aherm when the leaders weren’t looking, yes you have to use loads of them!!
I can see from your Twitter feed that you’re doing a riding course – enjoy. I used to ride as a child and was fine but when I’ve gone on the occasional ride as an adult, wow, the aches and pains are dreadful!
You take care and I hope all goes well for Myles and his 11plus results,
    Beth XXX.

Hi Beth, yes the course was fabulous thank you …after the first day I really thought I wouldn’t make it to the end of the third but I did …and my thighs felt GREAT! I grew up next door to a Lippizaner stud farm (not sure I spelt that correctly!) and spend morning til night with them however rarely rode, it’s something I’ve started to do as an adult and absolutely love …once beyond the aches and pains of course!! x
