Baby it’s cold outside

11

I guess we’ve been pretty lucky with the weather so far this winter, so we can’t complain about the snow that has arrived this week.

I hope you are keeping warm and safe – if you haven’t got the Get-a-Grip traction aids to put on your shoes or boots I can honestly recommend them. Because of my polio, I am very unstable on my feet in ice and snow and they give me confidence. Even better, they are at a reduced price on our website at the moment.

Richard Jackson Today's Special Value - 508810It’s cold for us with our central heating and warm clothes, but imagine what it must be like for the birds. They need to eat to produce the energy to keep warm, so the Richard Jackson bird feed Today’s Special Value last weekend was perfectly timed.

I missed the offer, but it’s still at a good price on our website so I’ve ordered some to put in my new bird feeder (pictured at the top).

I’ve always been a bit nervous about having one, because of all the cats in our neighbourhood, but the design of this one prevents cats from climbing up it – brilliant!

Hopefully I’ll be able to take some good pictures of the birds feeding in the coming weeks.

Last weekend, it was Sophie’s birthday and she came round to ours for dinner, followed by the traditional chocolate birthday cake.

Katy with her smoothie

I had been working in the morning and tweeted my dressing room ‘roomie’, Katy, about the colour of her smoothie, saying I was going home to enjoy chocolate cake… I think we all know which is healthier, but also which tasted nicer.

I have been cutting out some naughty foods, but I still haven’t really got started with my healthy eating plan to help me drop a few pounds.

I hope you have been enjoying the return of the Lunchtime Show? I really like the format and particularly enjoyed yesterday with Jackie Kabler and our fab line-up of guests including Keeley Aydin.

I can’t believe she didn’t tip me the wink about the Elemis Superfood Facial Oil Duo!

I had run out, and it wasn’t showing on our website so I had to buy one at full price from my local Elemis stockist!

The duo is now safely ordered, as I don’t want to be caught out again. If you love Elemis, do tune in to the mini series at 8pm tonight and for the rest of the weekend.

Well, after a full-on week, I am off after today for the next five days. My plan is to write 10,000 words of my next novel – I’ll let you you know how I get on.

I think there will also be quite a lot of Slanket snuggling if it stays this cold.

Much love,
Julia xx

      Hi Beverley
HRH here!!! So I’ve had a look at our website. My actual watch is now not showing but it is the same style as the grey one you have been given the item number for – that one has a suede strap though by the look of it.
My watch is nude in colour – they have a different style in nude. Hope that helps a bit.

    Hi Julia,
We’ve been lucky so far and escaped the snow. It always looks lovely but everything grinds to a halt as soon as we get a snowdrop falling! The snow is visible on the mountains as I drive to town and let’s hope it stays there.
I have to go to have the tape on that monitors my B/P on Tuesday morning. I have to keep it on for 12hours and not 24 hours as I was lead to believe. I have been making changes already by reducing my salt intake, cutting down on caffeine etc. I have just received the pedal excerciser that was on a few days ago. I’ve also been doing more walking especially over the Christmas period. The parking in our street is chronic! So I walked quite a bit as if I’d taken the car out I would never have got back in again!!
I also went to have bloods taken for a preventative screening as I’ve hit the big 60. Seems like everyone is after my blood these days. I also received the bowel cancer screening kit a month back which I’m pleased to say was OK. I know we’re lucky to have these things but I dread the post these days!
Anyway I’m off to look for a new centigrade coat. I need a longer one for this weather.
    Hope you are keeping well.
All the best , Tina S.xx

      Hi Tina
To be honest, we escaped with a light dusting of snow but I think some areas have had it pretty bad. Genuinely, I would not be without my ‘get a grips/winter tracks’ when the snow and ice is lying.
I hope your appointment goes ok tomorrow – I’m on my way to the hospital now to have my bloods taken. They managed to lose my last test so I haven’t had any actual test results for six months – fingers crossed that all is good but an anxious 2 or 3 weeks wait now.
I know what you mean about hitting 60 – I’ve had all the invitations from our doctors for tests for various ailments too. At least they are keeping an eye on us.
Hope you managed to find a Centigrade coat you like
      Love

    Hi Julia.
Not written for a while, so here goes with a quick one as i am also off to Doctors soon I have injured my shoulder somehow, so am off for a Scan. Its very painful at the moment but glad it’s on the left side as i am right handed. ! Also hope it gets better soon as we have a Winter Sun Holiday in March, have you any holidays booked this year. ?. We didn’t get any snow down on the South coast just very cold. I wanted some new Emu boots but the Stinger ones i like are not available in the colour or size i need and havn’t been for a long time. So i bought from another source…. . I saw your photo of the Attic room , we did a similar colour in our small bedroom but a few shades lighter, looks nice and fresh now with new curtains too. Quite a popular colour at the moment all the grey’s. Time to go to Doctors.. hope your results are ok .
    Speak soon.

    Hi Julia

Well the forecasted snow didn’t exactly reach Bristol lol. We had a minor snow shower which lasted all of 5 minutes. My daughter and I had our winter tracks (bought from QVC a few years ago) on hand, but sadly they’ve gone back in their boxes.

It’s my daughters birthday soon and making a chocolate cake is now on my list. You are so funny – chocolate cake or smoothie. Is there really a choice?

I have been wanting to ask for a while, I hope you don’t mind. How is your health now? You and Ali Keenan are great inspirations – you have been through much and it encourages me to get through my recent mastectomy and treatment due to breast cancer, osteoporosis and multiple sclerosis! You look absolutely wonderful, stunning in fact.

Keep being you – you’re lovely

    xx

      Hi Ruth
I hope you haven’t put your winter tracks anywhere too inaccessible – I reckon we have plenty more cold weather on the way!
Soooo, you’ve adopted my chocolate birthday cake tradition – I say mine, my mum started it when my siblings and I were young children. The smoothie I made today in the Nutri Ninja TSV was deeeeelish. Strawberries, frozen bananas, almond milk, maple syrup & raw cacao – honestly gorgeous!
Wow it sounds as though you’ve been through the mill with your health, I hope things are not too bad just now? My next specialist appointment is next Thursday (had my blood tests Monday) so hoping all is still under control – I feel ok.
      Thanks for your lovely comments
      Love

      Hi Linda
I love looking at everywhere covered in snow from the warmth and comfort of my house!
I bought the Nutri Ninja TSV so maybe that will encourage my healthy eating resolve.
Really pleased with all the writing I got done – 8500 words despite losing most of Monday to a hospital appointment – I even managed 400 words before QVC this morning… I’m really on a roll.
      Love
