Ripper Street!

Cowboy on the tubeWhat a fascinating evening I had this week when the lovely Antthony was back for another visit for his fabulous fashions shows and he went out with us for a ‘Jack the Ripper London Walk!’ It was one of those things we’ve been talking about doing for ages! I met him from his hotel and we made our way across on the tube – Antthony in cowboy mode – very inconspicuous, not! Gotta luv him! Lol.

The Tour guide was smashing – she had a US accent and pronounced she was a ‘ripperologist’ and went to all the conferences – a true expert on all things Jack. She used an Apple iPad to show our large group the pics of the Victorian streets how they were, and some of the victims pics. One of them was the first pic ever to be used to identify the victim – photography being a growing thing back in 1888.

It was a dark, eerie night but with modern street lighting it wasn’t scary. I loved the fascinating history she presented and the thought that in some spots at least, the buildings and doorways still stand. Many have gone but enough are still there to make it compelling listening. And we had a good walk into the bargain!

Then it was time for my pal Sharon, her hubby Ray, Antthony and I to have a quick mulled wine in the famous Ten Bells pub where some of the victims and they think Jack himself used to drink.

In the pub
The guide thinks the perpetrator was a certain John Kelly, a furniture upholsterer who used a chisel called a ripping tool and who emigrated to places where Ripper-like murders later took place. If  you love crime books and mysteries you may like to go on one of these walks. Go here for more info – they start at Tower Hill and cost £9 each – turn up at 7.30 and pay on the night. Must go again sometime with everyone’s favourite cowboy!

Losing Weight for Xmas

Thanks to those of you who have been commenting about how trim I look when you meet me and when I wear certain things on air. It depends if I’ve had dairy as to whether my belly bloats up (serves me right but the EasiYo coconut does taste amazing! #WedNightShowWithDale)!

Earlier this week I heard that Chloe Hillier, one of the girls featured in the before and after on the back of my weight loss book ‘Till the Fat Lady Slims 2.0 – the ‘When’ Diet,’ (click here for links to get it) has now lost FIVE stone! Wow, how proud am I!

TTFLS2 PoD Cover

Also the 22nd five star review on Amazon – Pam Merrifield (a relative newcomer), wrote this;

So pleased I bought this book. Have struggled for years with my weight and have tried every method known to man to lose it but always failed so became a habitual yoyo dieter. Debbie’s book, which is not at all patronising as some diet books can be but more as a friend having a chat with you, is genius. It’s total sense and in fact is not a diet book but more of change your lifestyle book. It’s not about deprivation but listening to your body requirements and eating when your body tells you, a concept that sounds hard to grasp but Debbie explains it so well that within days my whole attitude to food changed.

In my first weigh in I have lost 5.5lbs. I don’t expect for a moment that this is going to happen every week but I feel so motivated to carry on and hopefully lose a steady 1lb or 2 each week.
I would totally recommend this book to anyone who has yoyo dieted in the past as they have been unable to stick with conventional diets. I would also like to thank Debbie Flint for showing me the light about weight loss and being so supportive”

My heart fills with joy when I read things like that. I had a lady lose 8 stone once too. Let me know if you’ve tried it too – I’d love a few comments below. Do give it a try if you’re sick of dieting, you never know how quick it might kick in, to fit in that dress in time for Christmas.

Xmas Shopping With Lauren

Me and Lauren

I’m loving spending time with my grown up girl, especially now she’s moved out to her new house!

I had a nice evening with my lovely daughter in Guildford, getting some crucial gifts bought – namely her difficult to buy for boyfriend Nick! Got him a … better not say just in case! Do you have a really difficult to buy for person in your life? What do you do? I have got to the stage with my two that I just get what they tell me to – my ‘innovative inspirations’ don’t go down all that well when they’re both in need of stuff for their new homes! So I don’t amuse myself any more by spending the budget on things that make me smile! Although there have been some fun years…

Mind you, I will definitely make up for it with a ‘treasure hunt’ around the house for Lauren – or maybe for Nick – haha! Don’t tell them! Anyway, had a really delicious Wagamama meal too – super miso and mouthwatering stir fry etc. Xmas music everywhere too – festive!

The new house is coming along – it’s still in a ‘packing cases’ stage but they’re settling in nicely! Still got the bathroom and wall to finish but they should be done by Christmas. Not bad considering they took it over on August 22nd and WonderBoy Nick has done it all mostly by himself!

Book Deal of the Week

Freebie for Cyber Monday – Diary of a Wannabe Shopping Channel Presenter

Free Saturday till Wednesday

Here goes – an opportunity for you to add to your kindle or kindle app! My stand alone novel was begun many moons ago and finished earlier this year, written in journal style and inspired by the sorts of things you see and hear and experience whilst in shopping telly. Then I crossed it with a bit of Alan Partridge and threw in a dash of Holy Man, the Eddie Murphy movie, all in a Bridget Jones type first-person abbreviated narrative. It follows the fortunes of Abigail, a twenty-something local paper journalist and would-be TV presenter, who seeks her fortune via a whole host of escapades and mishaps as she enters a ‘Search for a Selly-Telly Star’ contest.

It’s not at all a true account of real life and has more than a dose of fiction. Do let me know what you think of it, but please don’t read it if you don’t like summarised prose and diary-style writing. However, DO read it if you love a good ‘yarn’ and mad-cap frivolity, loosely set in a make believe world of shopping telly, at a make believe channel called T.S.C. – ‘The Shopping Channel’! Lol. If anyone’s read it, do please put your review at the bottom in ‘comments’.

Click here to see the links and do read the first free sample before you buy.

NB it has 27 five star reviews – and 5 one star from people who don’t like the style so please sample it first.

I thoroughly enjoyed writing it and there will be a part two to Abigail’s adventures, sometime next year, set in reality TV, and the relationship hots up! Sign up for the newsletters on my website, to find out as soon as it’s released! Go here for the rest of this week’s RiWiSi blog with news about how to self publish your own novel.

Cover Reveal – new Hawaiian Trilogy

Cover reveal

What a lovely job my designer Angela Oltmann has done on my new paperback cover for the Hawaiian Trilogy! Hawaiian Escape, Hawaiian Affair and Hawaiian Retreat all under one cover. I’m so chuffed with it. She offered me two options which I asked people about online – overwhelmingly, 90 out of 100  – this one came top. So one more week and it will be available on Amazon in a thick paperback – over 600 pages! Specially good for gifting as it’s the three novels in PG version – spicy but not steamy – basically, fewer shades of grey! Lol! Email me now to go on the list to hear first when it’s out, if you’re not on Twitter or Facebook. or go here for full list of my book links.

Back to You Update – Axel from Flora Mare and  Michele Hope

Well in this week’s web chat the adorable Axel Ruth from Flora Mare skincare and fashionista Michele Hope chatted to everyone. Axel got flirty – there’s a surprise! And Michele revealed upcoming petite fashion info – go here to read their Q&A on my Monday B2U blog on my website. Also on that blog, the scary facts about sugar – a cool pic of the brain and impressive links to YouTube videos with superb science about the ‘other’ white stuff – like this one from ‘down under’.

I love it so much I went for a walk in it with the dogs! I mentioned on air that I’m single – now maybe you see why – lol!

I think it’s her best chat yet.

    Hi Debbie
i love watching you and always read your blogs and really appreciate your sneaky peeks of things coming up on qvc.
i am a little concerned though about that little dog on a treadmill in clothes he looked a little distressed to me and I wonder how long he was made to do that.
I would appreciate your response as I know you are a dog lover.

Love the blog and all the sneaky peaks! Find myself footloose though for very different reasons. I tried the flash quiz – I’m cultured, from east London? Will have to try the jack-the-ripper wak, I used to work in the area obviously a tad later! Keep up the good work

    Hi Debbie!

Reading your blog is one of the highlights of my week! You always write something to inform, teach and most importantly, amuse!

My favourite fantasy Christmas would have to involve relaxing on a hot, sunny beach! Mauritius looks fine to me!

I think you look fabulous in your Cozee onesie! Only wish they did one in my size. Most autumn and winter days see me snuggled into my Carole Hochmann attire and wrapped in my Slanket! My outfit is often topped with a cat or a dog for company!

Yes, that Easiyo Coconut ‘n Greek yogurt is delicious – I saw you, and smiled!

I am looking forward to the Judith Williams shows – that Phytomineral Neck & Décolleté Cream is sumptuous!

Thanks again for the great blog!

Love reading your blog each week. You have such a sense of humour. Your face was a picture when the clip of gravity started but well done for the quick ad lib to explain what was going on.
Will be taking my dog for a late walk with my onesie on underneath my coat. Great idea Debbie. Bella is my 3 year old Shiz Tzu and when I saw the treadmill video it cracked me up as I could imagine Bella on there. Great news about Chloe and her terrific weight loss. Bet she is so proud of herself. Well done Chloe.

Love the latest news on your bloggs Debbie. Can you tell me where Chloe is, I thought you mentioned her tonight but miss most of it.

Wish other presenters would state the width size of shoes as your always do. Such a help and saves the postage of returning. Why we get the dress size and not shoes size widths is beyond me.

Hi Debbie – loved recent Kipling TSV and bought bag & scarf in Winter Paisley -although was very tempted by burgundy bag when you modeled it with upcoming Centigrade TSV. However stuck with first choice but was wondering if you can demonstrate the winter paisley design (there might be a scarf left!) with the Emerald colourway when Centigrade TSV is launched?
    thanks wendy
