FOUR YEARS BACK AT QVC
So – this month I celebrate a major milestone in my time at QVC – I’ve been back four years! Plus the six I was here initially Feb ’94 – Feb 2000 actually makes my time presenting at QVC reach the magic 10 years this month! Happy anniversary to me!
To help mark the occasion, I took myself off for a mini-break (in true Bridget Jones style!) to Champneys. The last four years have flown, for sure, and I have had some of the best times in my career.
Like Saturday Night Gifts (returning Saturday, see QVC section below)! And like meeting some heroes, including Wayne Dyer, some BCC ladies and so much more. What’s been your highlight over the last four years?
There have been diverse publicity shots too! Here are a selection of QVC pics over the years – in date order, left-right!
I wonder if anyone’s still got one of the old ones? If you’d like a signed pic of the most recent shot, just email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or send a Stamped Addressed Envelope, and say who you’d like it signed to, to:
Debbie Flint, Presenters’ Lounge, QVC, Unit 8, 556 Chiswick Park Rd, Chiswick, London, W45XU
And don’t forget – on 1st October, QVC is 20! There’ll be some whopping celebrations then for sure! See below to find out what I’m launching as that day’s TSV too.
CHAMPNEYS MINI BREAK
Meanwhile, it was time to use up some remaining annual leave and take myself off to a long awaited spa break at Champneys, Forest Mere.
Not too far away and perfect for missus fussy-eater, here, along with a wide range of classes and extra treatments you can choose.
In the three whole days I was there I had a fabulous facial and hot stone massage, courtesy of the Elemis team. Then reflexology, followed by chi ball, yoga, total body stretch and a wonderful anti-stress massage. Theresa and Tracy the anti-stress and reflexology therapists were EXCELLENT!
I also had three other interesting sessions, which I’m going to tell you about in a few weeks’ time, cos I’m waiting to see their impact. Mysterious? Watch this space!
But it was definitely a TiFFT (try it for the first time event). Lauren my daughter joined me for a day too, and we went swimming in their amazing pool and took a walk in windy grounds. But the sun did come out occasionally! when I took this vid.
[Having trouble viewing this video? See YouTube's Help page]
But my fave was this meal – I could eat it again now! Yummm!
The only thing that wasn’t quite great was the weather, but the geese seemed to love it! I asked Daughter about taking a blog pic, one day we were sitting there looking freshly scrubbed and a bit bedraggled if I’m honest!, and she said she’d prefer not to have one done in our dressing gowns.
So I hope you don’t mind the obvious pic not being on here but sometimes, just sometimes, I’ve gotta not live my life online! Lol! The rest of the year it’s Deb on the Web! Hehe! So here’s the geese instead – haha!
P.S. – Fellow presenter Craigy my OOMBFF (one of my best friends forever!) was well-jel, so next time I go, he’s going to come with me too – it’ll be fab fun!
DEBBIE DOES DEVON
Then straight after the spa weekend, it was down to the serious business of writing my next novel, and commencing the upload of the paperback of HA PG version. So, off to Devon I went to see writing pal Alix again.
Reason is ‘cos I’m trying to finish my prequel by mid October, to go on sale in November after all the proofing. Am still amazed by the feedback about my first book Hawaiian Affair (Now 67/75 five star reviews just on steamy version) Whoop! Oh and it’s last day of 99p offer for PG version today (Friday 20th) – see RiWiSi below.
So it’ll be nerve-wracking to put my second ever novel up online to see what people think! But first I have to write the thing! It helps having some fab hunky men to write about – see below for info about an Italian one!
It’s quiet and calm, and even though most of the week we had awful weather – like most of the country eh? – we managed to take a day out to Chagford.
The sun was shining and we went for lunch in the newly refurbished Three Crowns Inn. Lovely!
And guess what? I’ve added a new beginning – featuring an Italian Adonis in a scene with one of the two heroines (yes there are two) in my prequel to Hawaiian Affair*.
But I need your help – what shall I call him? Leave me a comment below with your suggestion and see RiWiSi below for more!
When I did my own first novel it took me THREE DAYS to get it right! Now I see they have a template you can use! Pah! So it meant everything was much faster and Alix was very proud of herself – for a lady in her mid-sixties she should be – she was fab!
I love visiting Alix – she inspires me – and pretty Belstone. And to think, it’s been four years since the Ladies of Posara writing group met for the first time in Tuscany!
Jessica Hart our tutor – she’s written over 60 romances with Mills & Boon publishers, so knows a thing or two about novels. And since then we’ve gone strength to strength. I’ll be doing the online book launch party with some of them at the end of November – see below.
Last week’s told how one of our group, Claire Firth, is self-publishing for the first time, go here to read more. And others have done very well indeed! Now time for RiWiSi!
RiWiSi – READ IT WRITE IT SELL IT – my weekly look at all things book!
See below for some fab info if you’re one of the many kind people who’ve told me you can’t wait for the next novel to come out! An update on how it’s going – if you didn’t know, it’s the prequel to Hawaiian Affair.
Plus, a reminder about how to get HA for 99p if you’re quick. And an invite to our online book launch!
Plus a SUPER Book of the Week – My Granny Writes Erotica!
This week’s topic of the week over on my website, RiWiSi-Go-Large page, is spoiler reviews – don’t you just hate them? Have any ever put you off buying a book cos they gave away the plot? Go add your opinion there – or below if you like!
BTW I am so chuffed – Hawaiian Affair has now got 140/159 five stars! (across all the options). So anyway, the next big milestone is the release of the long-awaited PAPERBACK of the PG version (without the steamy bits! Or as Leighton Denny says – the ‘detail’! hehe).
Here’s a sneaky peek at the PG paperback cover (almost identical but with subtle differences – a bit like the novels themselves!) See if you can spot the difference!
(Otherwise the steamy version paperback is already available on Amazon, as is the complete eBook and getting some great feedback from happy readers – thankfully! Phew!)
More on RiWiSi-Go-Large about reviews – this week – why do some people précis the whole story in their review! Spoilers – grrr! But happily not many have done that on any of my reviews at the moment.
What shall I call my Italian hunk in my new novel?
Ok so I asked on Facebook about a good name for a hot character from Italy, and received about two dozen different options! I’ve narrowed it down, then, to the three I like best so far.
Would you help me choose? For instance should the Adonis from Tuscany in my next novel be named –
- Ferro (means iron apparently)
- Pietro – sounds kind of cool
- or Alessandro – although I’m not sure about a name that’s appeared in a Lady GaGa song! Lol.
Leave me a comment below to let me know. Or email me at email@example.com.
Date for your online diary!
And the other news about the prequel is, you’re invited to an online ‘party’! Whoop! Along with some of the other Ladies of Posara (see pic) we are due to launch our new titles the last weekend in November.
Please join us on Facebook on Thursday 28th November for the launch ‘party’ – lots of giveaways and fun questions – with four or five of us authors taking part. Will be fab!
Most of those pictured here have managed to publish our books in the four years since Tuscany.
I’m very proud of our group, spearheaded by Emily Harvale, who will be masterminding the online party in November. More soon.
Book of the Week – My Granny Writes Erotica
Talk about a zeitgeist for the early ‘teens and just perfect for 2013 readers who are ’50-shades-of-grey’ed’ out! I saw this book online – making waves on Amazon – and thought I’d have to feature it this week!
My Granny Writes Erotica is a timely response to the tidal wave of titillation and erotic romance swamping the online stores nowadays. And the high-street stores and supermarkets come to that!
In this book by Rosen Trevithick, newly single, straight-laced Betty needs a get rich quick scheme, and completes her life’s ambition to write a bestselling novel – the research she endures and the fall out that ensue are a delight to behold – it’s a comedy, and doing really well on Amazon! Well done Rosen!
Have you read it? If so, let me know what you think by leaving a comment below!
More about all things book over on this week’s Friday Fiction Focus including advance warning of the Bath Novel Award writing competition…
And come back next week for news of a free steamy eBook you won’t want to miss!
This week’s on air howler features my room-mate (dressing room buddy and roomie) Chloe Everton – and the curious case of the Elemis shaving foam incident – oh how Keeley laughed!
- Time for the ‘I Can Do It Weekend Early Bird booking deal’ to end soon – do go to their website to book a fabulous weekend of amazing inspirational self-help speakers. Am going with Craig again like last year – can’t wait! Click here for more info about I Can Do It weekend in London on 12th and 13th October.
- PIRATE THE THREE LEGGED KITTEN – the story begins… From this week I’m going to have an update on Pirate the little kitten who is the sole survivor from the litter discovered by a kind person in Essex who took him (and his brother Peg who sadly died soon afterwards) to Golden Oldies Cat Rescue – which is not just for oldies!
Pirate lost his back right leg when it was believed to have been chewed off by an inexperienced stray mother who accidentally removed a paw when she bit the cords.
Well, after a shaky start, and losing his little brother, he’s coming on leaps and bounds, albeit wonky leaps.
He’s so cute, he’s now got his own Facebook page! You can like it here. Next week – what happened in his first few weeks of life? And what’s his future? Will they have to operate? More next week on snippets!
- Food and Behaviour Research have a fascinating new seminar coming up -
Feeding Healthy Minds. Held in London on the 29th October, the seminar would make a fascinating day out for those with children, or trying to get pregnant or anyone just with an interest in infant nutrition and behavioural research.
Go here to book ASPAP – places are limited and it will feature the latest studies done by the original scientist who worked on the Durham School Trials, from where the current craze for Omega 3 began.
Visit the website if you can’t go to the conference, where you’ll see why Omega 3 is vital for heart health as well as so much more.
- My son Brad’s stag do was this week – a weekend away with these lads – Ibiza didn’t know what hit it! Lol! They are remaining tight lipped about what happened – to be honest, I’m pleased about that, ignorance is bliss!
But the one story that did filter back was that it was my 38 year old brother Glenn who ended up in A&E on the last day… ‘cos his contact lens got stuck! Hehe!
Anyway, thank goodness it’s over and now the big wedding is only three weeks away! EEEk!-
WATCH – The Secret Life of Bees. Star studded or what! This is a DVD which Lauren and I watched on the night she joined me at Champneys, when we felt like a good film.
With an emotionally-deep, rich tapestry of black and white characters in 1960’s America, Queen Latifa and Alicia Keys (yes really) and Jennifer Hudson (as usual) were fab. But Dakota Fanning as Lily, the white kid brought up by them after running away from her abusive dad (Paul Bettany), was outstanding.
We gave it 8.75 out of ten. Worth a watch to make you feel good about life – or good about your own life! Just keep the tissues at hand.
QVC – SNEAKY PEEKS
– Which former CBBC colleague of mine and would-be chef is due to appear on QVC in the not too distant future? See if you can guess! Dale’s looking forward to being on the show with him!
- With Sara Griffiths now back on air (do go say hi to her on her blog!) now there’s a brand new presenter in the wings! She’s due on the schedules around the beginning of October, all being well!
Some people say she’s a bit like me in her personality. I’m sure she’ll fit right in!
Plus – at the end of next week my fave hairdryer, Ego is back with a TSV on Friday 27th!
And – the week after, help to celebrate our 20th birthday on 1st October! And if you like your Clogau, you must join me launching that day at midnight Monday 30th for a very limited run of a beautiful Clogau watch!
