Firstly, well done Nancy, such a well deserved winner. We had been routing for Richard the builder as his efforts were always so surprising and his attention to detail so delicate however all the finalists were absolutely superb!
I can’t say the inspiration has worked on me this year though, if anything, I think I was intimidated as my baking efforts seriously struggled this last week!
My not so little boy turned 11 (can’t believe how quickly the years fly by) and I think I must have peaked last year when it came to his cake as my Minecraft TNT cakes were tough to beat. How on EARTH did Nancy manoeuvre all that red fondant icing with such ease?? I thought turning a square cake into a Lego brick would be dead easy however the fondant icing stretched and contorted all over the place when I tried to move it, it looked more like a volcanic eruption than a neatly cornered cube!!
I seriously need tips if I ever do this again because I only just managed to avert a terrible disaster!! Fortunately, thanks to some real Lego to hide the lumpy bits, we eventually ended up with a sort of brick-shaped cake for his birthday … and you may think there were sighs of relief all round but no, the challenge didn’t end there as we had his birthday party this weekend which of course meant yet another creation to unveil!
I slightly chickened out and opted for cupcakes. I thought these would be easy but before I knew it, we had decided on recreating Captain America shields. Being a COMPLETE glutton for punishment, I decided to bring out the fondant again, this time in two colours! AAARrgghh!!!
So Myles wasn’t the only one receiving pressies last week! The QVC home department buyers came via my dressing room with big smiles and bearing gifts for me too! A new duvet cover; not any old duvet cover I’ll have you know, but one designed by Anna Griffin!
She originally trained and worked as an artist with fabrics, however for years has provided us with her beautifully designed crafting papers etc. she’s sooo talented!
They asked me if I would take the new duvet cover home to road test it (such a tough job!). Of course I gladly did
It’s double sided which is handy as one side is definitely more me than the other (I’ll let you guess which) but it does make for a rather quick face-lift for any bedroom and I think looked rather smart in ours. I have to say I’m quite looking forward to seeing the rest of the range this Tuesday 14th October at 2pm. I know many of you have been fans of Anna for years so do join us as I know she can’t wait either!
Talking of art, have a look at this picture. It’s various water/oil cans turned into funny faces that we saw whilst we were in Paris on our honeymoon back in August. We saw so many surprising things whilst merrily roaming the streets and accidentally happening upon sights both random and famous. We spotted all sorts that made us smile … oh and this parking was brilliant! Honestly, how the Parisians get anywhere cracks me up, this poor Fiat driver certainly wasn’t going to be going anywhere in a hurry!
Finally, I must remember that I’ve got a fabulous Elemis prize to give away soon. I’ll post it here on the blog once I’ve come up with a question and give you a heads up via twitter that it’s here too.
If you aren’t already following me, please do at @PipaLive then you will definitely get alerted when the comp is up and running. I should warn you that you get to see all kinds of daft things occur on my feed too, it could be anything from various animal antics to all sorts of kitchen capers and anything in between!
Last week it was pics of the failed cakes and my rather energetic go on the bouncy castle … the joys of life come in all sorts of shapes and sizes don’t they?
See you soon either on the box or via Facebook/Twitter!
