An unusual resolution! And how to sleep well…

7

Another year, another New Year’s Eve but a very different one for me! See below to find out what I did! And I’m still on tenterhooks awaiting the arrival of my first grandchild. I’ll post about it on my own website when my son Brad and his lovely wife Kari finally greet their new baby, but you’ll be among the first to know – on here – when it eventually happens (due 9th!).

Plus, see below for a look at the upcoming deals and an Early Bird peek at Sunday’s massive bargain, a rare repeat of last summer’s amazingly comfortable bed deal.

But first, a consideration for a New Year’s Resolution, being the first week in January. I resolve that this year I will up the ante on my ‘TiFFT’s’ – the ‘try it for the first time club’ events that I try to do regularly. As you’ll know from last week’s Review of the Year, 2017’s best one was milking an actual cow. By hand. And tons to do with family, naturally. But this year I already have my eye on a new one.

I don’t know about ‘ruby slippers’ but at the New Year’s eve party I encountered some ‘silver desert boots’! Made by a lovely lady called Alison Hastie from Greenshoes – she runs special workshops to make your own boots! With my hobbit feet, I have to do this don’t I? They also make Mary Janes etc, so there should be something for everyone.

I’ve always had an awful problem getting shoes wide enough, especially when I was a kid. QVC’s ‘wide’ shoe choices are better than ever – take a look – but making your own sounds like a super ‘TiFFT!’ What do you think?!

I’d also like to go to a country on my list to visit – Australia, India, New York, Japan, Antarctica, South America, and Egypt. Are you off on a dream trip this year?

New Year’s Treats
For QVC’s VT for New Year, see below. This is the first year since I can remember, when I wasn’t actually working on New Year’s Eve. Had a nice New Year relaxing (well, for some of it!) down in Devon, including a fab ‘Debbie did dinner’ night on Saturday 30th with my ladies who help me out down there – Sheena, Linda and lovely Wendy – and their hubbies. I did salmon en croute, asparagus, new potatoes, and lemon and dill sauce made from scratch – and didn’t burn anything! Yay!

For New Year’s Eve I went to pal Alix’s in Belstone for a ‘house-crawl’ – 40 people going to three different houses during the evening. Fab going ‘out out’ for a change.

Then ended up back at Alix’s for chilling all of New Year’s Day, binge watching a superb box set (see below) after a bucks fizz, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon breakfast.

This short video was on our New Year’s Day walk, in windy Dartmoor, when happily the sun shone a few times, before the heavens opened!

A final word about New Year from my best Devon pal, Alix…

Hope you had a good one too!

Resolving to get fit?
Bruce is back with his clever Bodyblade – the best way of short cutting the time you need to truly feel the difference in your body. Don’t miss him Monday and Tuesday. I’m down in Devon sadly. Boo. In the meantime, watch the video on our website to see why it works so well!

Dream-believer
The Sealy bed is back! Yay! This is the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life. OMG so highly recommended, you can get the mattress alone or with a divan bed. It’s delivered, put in place, and they take away the old bed too with a like-for-like service (find more info on our website on Saturday), how fantastic is that?! Can’t wait to launch The Sealy Posturepedic Gel Supreme – join me Saturday night at midnight (13th).

See below for next week’s deals…

Gracie loves to play Was lovely to spend so much time with my doggies in Devon over the 6 day New Year break. Gracie kept nudging me when I was watching TV in the studio so I did this – she loves it! So funny, bless her and her glass eye. Love my dogs.

Best Twitpic from QVC pals Dale and Charlie at it again – apparently there was a blooper during the jewellery show too! If I can find it I will post next week. You guys just love seeing our own version of Alas Smith and Jones – Alas Brook and Franklin! Jewellery shows are never the same as when these two jokers get together.

Meanwhile here’s a funny from each of them…

Bloopers – some BRILLIANT ones over Xmas and new year…
1.Charlie Goes Rogue… Crazy presenters – very funny. Love Ali Keenan’s line ‘was Charlie caught short or what…?!’ Katy can’t stop giggling! Funny moments like this make my job such fun. Well done super FM Kerry for being such a good sport too.

2. It’s all a bit confusing for Dale… check out his face at around 20 seconds in… funny! It happens to all of us at this time of year! Thanks for some superb moments in 2017 Dale, Charlie and co. Great job. #NotLikeWork!

If you missed it, NYE messages from us on QVC – just in case you wanted to see how QVC handled NYE live, here you go – I love Catherine’s message in particular, don’t you?

Watch 1) The Greatest Showman – went to the cinema in Epsom with sis-in-law Alison to see this, and had a super time. It was good – not great, IMO. It jarred a little for me, that the music was so modern and AOR, but the plot was a good one. I always enjoy Hugh Jackman in whatever he does but the real surprise was Zac Efron – very good indeed. 8/10 from me.

Watch 2) Big Little Lies box set – my daughter Lauren told me I JUST HAD to watch this series. And I have to say, it’s BRILLIANT! Alix and I sat in our PJs binge-watching the first four episodes on New Year’s Day and I LOVED every moment. It covers some pretty serious topics. Domestic violence, school bullying, and there’s a murder plot arching over the whole show.

Which of the BLL women are you? My sis reminds me a bit of Reese Witherspoon’s character Madeleine, and if anything I was maybe a bit like Renata (Laura Dern – played magnificently). Catch this series if you can! Well worth it and so far – a massive 9.5/10 from me! Award winning and deservedly so. And total awe and respect to Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon for getting it made themselves.

Book of the week I’ve just finished listening to ‘Fingersmith’ (Victorian for pick pocket) about a case of fraud and subterfuge in 1860s England – love, cunning and several surprise twists. Sarah Waters has done it again as far as I’m concerned! She also wrote one of my top novels, set in the 1920s, ‘the Paying Guests’, audiobook brilliantly read by Juliet Stevenson. Well done her.

Blocking writer’s block And another thing I mention on this week’s book blog on my website is a tale of overcoming writer’s block from one of the best in the business, IMO, my mentor Julie Cohen. She wrote a ‘twit-blog’ – several posts in a thread – explaining humbly what she went through. Awesome, and inspiring, as ever. It brought a tear to my eye as I’ve been a bit stuck with my own writing, for ‘French or Dutch’ – my 5th novel to be published (aka ‘the big one’!) So glad for people like Julie in my life and I know she had that effect on lots of others too. More here.

Debbie bet you can’t wait to meet your new grandchild , when you see them for the first time the rush of love you feel is very different from when we have our own children. I still remember seeing my granddaughter over 13yrs ago and my son’s face as he held her. Hope all goes well for your son and his wife and you will make a wonderful grandma or whatever you have decided to be called. You take care x
