I am blogging from Cyprus this week – am here on a week's holiday – never been here before, it's wonderful. Today the weather is a bit on and off so we are off to explore the mosaics and harbour of Paphos. Anyway, more on that next week.
For this week I wanted to share with you my wonderful week last week – it all started on Sunday with the culmination of months of training – The Royal Parks half marathon.
I completed the 13.1 mile run in 2 hours and 7 minutes which I was pretty happy with. I did stop at the 10 mile point when my legs completely ceased up but then out of the corner of my eye I saw someone very special who had turned up to support me by surprise and that spurred me and gave me a new lease of life.
I had underestimated how important it is to have others support you on something like that – if I do one again I will enlist people to be at every mile!! I found the last couple of miles quite enjoyable and painful at the same time and very emotional – I did shed a tear or two thinking about how kind people had been to sponsor me and how brave Ali Keenan and Amica have been and how breast cancer affects the lives of so many.
Thank you so much for supporting me with your Facebook cheers on my runs and wondeful comments and a very special thank you if you made a donation. I'm almost up to £1000!! Wow! The fundraising page is still open if you would like to make a donation – www.virginmoneygiving.com/craigrowe
Then on Wednesday it was the annual fundraising gala for Breast Cancer Care, but before heading off to be part of that it was time to get baking! We had a mini presenter bake-off with myself, Clare Sutton, Debbie G and Simon B (all the presenters of the gala) all baking a cake – the only rule being it must include something pink! These were to be tasted and judged in the morning show by Kathy, Julian and Simon Brown as the TSV that day was the cook's essentials stand mixer.
I decided to bake a chocolate and vanilla marble cake and topped it with chocolate buttercream decorated with pink sugar flowers. It took all my willpower not to cut a huge slice out of it as it smelt sooo delicious! I scored 9 and won the competition so I was rather proud of myself!
Then finally of course it was the gala night itself – what an amazing evening once again. I've been part of this gala every year since being at QVC and for the last 2 years I have co-hosted the event and running the auctions.
I love being in the donation and auction room, it's so exciting and the atmosphere is brilliant. This year the biggest auction was the 'concert in your living room' with Joe McElderry which went for £6350! I spoke to the winning bidder several times, she was determined to win it for her and her daughter who had been in hospital and I was so glad she won – well done Mrs White!
Another highlight of the night was spending time with Alison Keenan who spent time with us both in the auction room and in the main studio. In this pic we're getting ready and before Ali put her wig on. I have to say she looks so beautiful both with and without her wig and her new hair is so shiny and soft and look at those big sparkling eye of hers – what an amazing lady…
Hope you like the photos and thank you all so much for being part of what was an amazing week!!
Did you manage to buy anything in the gala evening and did you enjoy the evening? Would love to hear from you!
