Q: I'm 56 and have basically never used anything other than soap and water to clean my face. I do use a night cream but that's all. I have combination skin and just a couple of very fine lines around my eyes. I'm confused as to what would be the best beauty routine for me though.
I don't wear any make up other than mascara and lipstick but do wear a 50+ sun block when I go on holiday as I have a couple of blotches which were due to a lot of sun bathing when I was a teenager. Can you help with a good beauty routine for me please?
Alison: Obviously you've been conscious of SPF factors in recent years which is fantastic. On a daily basis and through the winter you could use Ultrasun SPF 30 Day Cream. This should help to prevent future damage and is great especially for more mature skin. UltraSun also have an SPF50 if you want a higher SPF - and all their range offers all-day protection.
There are an awful lot of ranges to choose from, but when you haven't used anything before it's best not to jump into anything too complicated. Start off with Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Superskin Moisturiser and Superskin Concentrate.
This would be best to start you off on, particularly because of your age group. Start off on this simple routine and if you want to go on further and get more results on lines or your eyes, then I can suggest other products and ranges for you. See how you get on, and how you enjoy the Liz Earle products too.

Dear Alison,
Im reading your emails religiously and have tried to send my questions but the email always seem to bounce back, Im in desperate need of your expertise.
Like many women I am a beauty junkie and I have loads and loads of expensive products. Despite this I have no proper routine. I believe this is a fairly common problem and so I am wasting a lot of money as I buy all the latest must haves but dont really know how to use them. I have serums, oils, cleansers and moisturisers coming out of my ears but still lack a routine..
If you could help with a cleansing and moisturising routine I would be most grateful. I do not mind spending a bit of money as long as I will use the products.
This time of year my skin is rather sensitive with redness on my cheeks, it is also really dehydrated and I also sometimes break out in spots. I believe that the break outs are mainly caused by the sensitivity and so therefore am not so bothered about attacking them at this stage, its the sensitivity, dehydration and the FINE LINES which appear everywhere (when did that happen? Over night?). I am 31yrs old. My skin almost feel a size too small and some products and foundations make my eyes red and watery and my skin stings. I do not have this sensitivity in the summer its starts about now every year...
I have been a fan of Dermalogica for years as they are very gentle on my skin and I have never had any bad reactions to them. However I do need a regime and I lack that with Dermalogica. I need to find a regime/routine
I would be most grateful if you could assist with cleansing and moisturiser regime that would suit me. Please also recommend eye cream, night cream oils and serums. I am so grateful if you could help me.
Kind Regards
Caroline

Hello
i was just wondering about a regime as opposed to a routine. I'm 39 and have always looked after my skin and its generally fine. the problem i have is that I tend to buy box sets and want to use them as soon as they arrive. i love Philosophy, Decleor, Gatineau and Elemis.
I notice that you advise this lady to use products from different ranges. is it OK to mix things up then? I'm using the latest Gatineau Melatoganine TSV, love it, especiall the face wash. but is it ok to still use my Philosophy Microdermabrasion kit etc. will it undo the good of using Gatineau?
thanks

Hi Alison
I've just bought the Ultrasun TSV and can't wait to start using it but I don't know when the best time is to apply the SPF. Do I use it after I've cleansed and toned, after moisturising, before/after make-up?
Thanks
Rachel
